Never has a title for a game sell you on what could be its only redeeming value. It plays a lot like a Slay The Spire Roguelite but where it separates is the concept that you need to use abilities in a chain to set off combos where the damage you deal stacks and you end up dealing a hideous amount of damage. That part works amazingly well. Everything else, well. The art is all over the place, there are mix matched assets basically everywhere, the story portraits will have you wondering if the art style and design change from picture to picture. I imagine way early in its production when they just wanted splash art they hired artists for that part but when in game assets were needed they finally found someone to draw consistent artwork throughout that part of the game. So visually it's really inconsistent and bland. The story is pedestrian which if this was a real RPG I'd be bothered about it but for a Roguelite less is actually more. I'm no Hades Fan so I'm not trying to play a Roguelite for a story. Three acts is fine, there's a couple of alternative modes, you get permanent buffs per run so if you are tired of playing Roguelikes where every run is just as tough as when you first went in blind this game is way more fair. Your starter set of abilities being completely customizable is great for engineering a solid early game setup as opposed to spending your entire first act looking for all the good cards and getting rid of your bad starter cards. The music is borderline terrible. I don't like being mean to the Musician who was probably given very little to work with but it's astonishingly generic. You might start thinking "This sounds like Thumbs down territory" And it would but getting that card combo down is just that gratifying.
