Fable is a nice RPG although it has aged a little bit it is still worth playing today to experience the story. It has a few shortcomings but it shouldn't bother you much as it is a product of it's time but once again it is a solid RPG that should at least be experienced.

A classic! It shows its age, but combat is still fun.

This game has it all. Fishing, digging up graves, theft, sneaking, funny jokes, some morbid revelations and hot women. Become whoever you want to be.

Playing this for the first time in 2025 has been quite the journey. So much charm, so much passion in an RPG made for the OG Xbox. Fable has some unique systems that I've never seen before, like aging and battle scars being left on your body. You can even do some really crazy stuff if you want: Prostitute yourself for money? Sure, go ahead! Murder your wife or
even your own sister
? Nobody's stopping you!
To be fair, most of those systems end up being rather one-dimensional. For example, you can become mayor of a town, but apart from gaining access to a manor, there are no benefits. The same goes with the aging system: It's not time based; you just get older each time you level up a skill.
The rather linear story is fantastic, although I wish there was more player freedom. Also, the whole Northern Wastes part felt a bit like an afterthought to me. I guess fighting Jack of Blades in the Chamber of Fate was just that good of a climax.
Whatever Playground Games is cooking up for the reboot, they'll never be able to capture the charm this game has.

Play the Remaster if you're looking for controller support or modern optimization. Still an amazing game, but a bit dated.
