If you are not sure how a modern day alpine village and magical dungeons mash together, don't be! This game is pure magic from beginning to the end. Dungeons of Hinterberg makes you experience the life of a beautiful, small village, which has access to magical dungeons filled with puzzles and monsters... and the locals descided they will make a tourist-attraction out of it. You are entering this picture as one of said tourists, coming to this place to experience magic and leave your everyday life behind. The gear, the style... everything works in harmony to create a beautiful atmoshpere. Each region of the map has a set of magical abilities and each dungeon gives you a unique test to use these. And these dungeons are all excelent. They teach the mechanics nicely and make you think towards the end. During the evening, you can explore the village and spend time with the npcs, who are all lovable their own way and all of them contribute to your growth with perks and unlockable bonuses. I have to tell here, how the leveling experience feels so smooth and natural. You feel comfident as you realize you found stronger gear, you have stronger stats and more opportunites and soon you will do the highest level dungeons with ease. Just make sure you look into every nook and crany! Also... some of the dialog hits close. There are some truths here about life - hard and delightful alike. I will never regret experiencing this game and I can only recommend it to you. Please enjoy your stay in Hinterberg!

I can highly recommend this game. The story is nicely told. The puzzles are fun. They are not too difficult. Even people who are not puzzle fans can play this game. The fights are easy if you level up cleverly but still entertaining. The socialising with the NPCs in the village (and levelling up that way) is a great idea. Every in-game day I looked forward to returning to the village and see who is around to spend the evening with.

Really great game. The stories of the characters, the dungeons, and fighting is a lot of fun. I'd love another one of these games.

The most no-pressure relaxing experience I've ever had with a dungeon crawler. Meet this game's chill vacation vibe at eye level and you will not be disappointed.

A hack and slash RPG based in the Austrian Alps. It's a simple setting and falls on the easier side game play wise, but it was fairly enjoyable. The game is mostly you running around a contained open world beating various puzzle heavy dungeons. You have a fair bit of customisation in the forms of abilities, charms and weapon mods. Alongside that, you can befriend the locals, hear their stories, and get buffs/items for it. All in all, a good experience.

Dungeons of Hinterberg is not a truly terrible game by any means, but I have more negatives associated with my experience than I do positives. However, I'll start with the positives! Namely, the art style and the setting. These are both what initially drew me into the game as I've never seen a game try to tackle the scale and beauty of the Alps before, and I believe this game absolutely nails the feeling of exploring nature and revelling in its massive scope. Sadly, this is pretty much all the game has to offer as the rest feels just so-so, if not worse. To start, the gameplay loop is incredibly standard, and it never really branches out into anything truly notable (the one exception being the level that seems very heavily inspired by monument valley, but that still means it's a bit reductive). Additionally, the combat is incredibly basic with very few ways to spice it up outside of the very few attack conduits that you gain access to (that are actually worth using) throughout the course of the game. I even had to increase the difficulty up to tough to try and get some semblance of a challenge from any of the fights, but it honestly made some of the basic encounters more engaging than the boss fights later in the game. Lastly, the puzzles were typically simple and straightforward requiring only half a brain to figure out most of them. These other issues are bad, but ultimately not what drags the game down the most, in my opinion. The biggest gripe I have with this game is the characters and the dialogue. It genuinely feels like the writing for this game got outsourced in some capacity because it either reads as incredibly lax with tons of modern day slang thrown in, or it tries to wax poetic with whole paragraphs used just to try and explain a complex emotion. Furthermore, the character designs are certainly "unique" (but typically not for the better) with many designs being either exceptionally bland or only mildly interesting. What doesn't help this is the writing since you only get a limited number of days to try and interact with them (26 for me), so I gravitated to the characters that seemed like they had some actual thought put behind their story arcs (or they had an immediate benefit for interacting with them). However, the only thing therein is some of the most milquetoast storylines with characters that only go one of two ways: 1) character you initially dislike is actually a decent, "interesting" person; 2) the average person is actually perfectly average with only like one major problem going on in their life that they overcome after talking with you 2-4 times. This is a pretty typical setup, but it's employed so ineffectively that it feels more half-baked than the dungeons. Overall, I'd still say you should pick this game up if it's heavily discounted (or you really like the visuals), but you should know that the game is definitely not going to be in your top 10 (unless you've never played a Persona title lmao).

Great time waster, with a nice blend of battle, exploration and puzzle solving, a nice departure from the traditional hack and slash titles.

I think this is a great game. A little basic at times, I wish the story could have been more involved and some of the dungeons and mechanics more complex, but as it is I really can't fault the game for what it is and I'll keep an eye out for a sequel.

Very fun! A lot of dungeons to explore, puzzles to solve and friends to make. It has a cozy vibe and very engaging gameplay. It has zero frustrating aspects, which is very important for me personally. If you die, you just try the fight/puzzle again and don't have to run the whole dungeon again. Im 20 hours in and explored 20/25 dungeons so far. Excited to see how the story will end :)

Such an amazing game. Even got pretty emotional at the end. This game felt like a Legend of Zelda game, mixed with some Persona social links and making it into it's own, original and unique game. Easy 9/10 for me. Did not want to stop playing, so I even got all the achievements. :D
