A great multi option rpg! Story is way better connected compared to the first one. Got a choice of 8 party members with some different classes!

Probably the single best JRPG experience I have ever had, and likely will never get topped. This game is goated beyond belief, from characters, to story, to sound design and gameplay. Easiest 10/10 of my life.

the game is a solid B. its inoffensive and doesnt particularly excel in anything other than how it looks. it is a beautiful game, but everything else is just mid. except the voice acting, my god the voice acting is sleepy at best and down right cringe at worst. combat is just alright, nothing to complain about in that regard other than your characters repeating the same line for the same ability every time you use it, as well as when you win a battle which did get on my nerves. i like the idea, but in practice its just not for me. turning off voices makes the game 15% better. a solid 6 or 7/10 overall. don't think i would pay for full price unless you just really love retro style jrpgs, in which case i'd say at least try it

Review: This is a beautiful game with exciting story telling, and smart combat. This game plays into the nostalgia of kids playing early 1990's RPG video games, and makes you feel like you never left your bedroom. It's stunning to look at, the gameplay is engaging and varied, the combat while repetitive never feels stale or cumbersome. It is also great to have various play throughs interacting with different characters at different point in their stories. Being able to mix up strategies and what party you will lead as your main, creating an almost different form of gameplay is enjoyable. i didn't find myself bored of any of the protagonist or their motivations.
This is a gorgeous representation of classic RPG being brought into modern games and audience. If you ever wanted to share the joy that these types of games brought you with someone who hasn't experienced that childhood glee, or even someone who is missing it now as an adult, this is the game. The only thing that prevents this from being a 10/10 is the lack of customization. One of the things I really enjoy in modern RPG's is the ability to really immerse myself into a character or group of characters. Being able to dress them up in style's I feel benefit the story I'm playing is fun. Finding loot that directly impacts the way my character comes across is nice. It really adds to the world building for me. Not to say that there isn't any customization which these characters. (When you sub class them they take on the outfits of the additional class) It just wasn't what I pictured from this sequel.
TLDR: Gorgeous game. Grind heavy game. Fun and varied game. Top rated RPG in my catalog (Top 5 for me personally). Would Recommend.

It took a good long time, but I finally beat it. Octopath traveler 2 is probably the finest JRPG I have ever played. If you are looking for a good, long game to really sink your teeth into, this is it.
By far and away the best thing about this game is the music. It is the best soundtrack of any video game I have ever played. Truth be told, I actually bought this game when it first came out, but life got busy and eventually I stopped playing. What finally brought me back was thinking about how good that music was. What makes it better is that almost every piece in the game has two versions, a fully orchestrated day version and a thinly orchestrated night version. I tend to prefer the night versions, I appreciate the simplicity of the piano scores, but the day versions are also very good.
Aside from that, the world of this game is very good and full of surprises. You really want to explore every corner of this game because there are so many different things to find. You can even buy a ship at one point and sail around like you could in the old Final Fantasy games. The boss fights are super good, they are each interesting and have their own twist, but don't take forever to beat like they did in the original Octopath Traveler. Speaking of which, this game improves on a lot about that game. It has a much larger, more complete world and a lot of the mechanics that were bad or difficult in that game are back in a much better form. I appreciate that you can skip the chapter one of each character and come back and do it later, makes the game much more replayable.
My biggest gripe with the game is the encounter rate. There are way too many enemies. Make sure you get the evasive maneuvers passive skill early on, or else have some way to kill enemies quickly, otherwise you will go insane. The game does feel a bit grindy at times, but it is not too bad, you can often avoid grinding by taking a good path through the story.
The story itself is very good. Like the first game, there are eight separate stories all tied together with one overarching story. The separate stories are good for the most part, but they tend to be a bit basic. The overarching story really brings it together in a neat way, it is worth playing all the way through just for that. The characters are also pretty good, Throne's my favorite (and from what I've seen I think she is everyone's favorite). I also really liked Partitio, Osvald, and Hikari. I have mixed feelings about Temenos, Agnea, and Ochette. Castti was the only one I didn't like, she tended to come off as annoying, even if her story was actually pretty good (except for chapter 2: Sai route, probably my least favorite chapter in the game).
With all that said, yes, I do absolutely recommend this game. If you are a fan of JRPGs, you will love it. Even if you aren't I think it is worth giving it a try. I am mixed on JRPGs as a genre if I am telling the truth, but this game is one that I do very much enjoy.

Octopath Traveller 2. Is a game that I’ve been waiting decades for.
Reading numerous positive reviews and buzz surrounding this game prior to my purchase, I did have reservations. I’ve never played an RPG like this, mainly the only type of RPGs I’ve played have all been 3D, AAA games since the PlayStation One.
If you don’t love JRPGs/RPGs this game isn’t for you. BUT, Octopath Traveller 2 is the type of game you have to play at least once in your life. Simply, if we were to avoid any negative connotations that one might have to RPGs, it is an adventure game. I hear the term that it’s an “old-school RPG”, and while that might true, this game would an amazing RPG regardless of the era it would be released in. This game is easily worth full price.
Personally I had fun with the story, and I can’t stop listening to the soundtrack even after I finished the game (I hadn’t been this moved by a soundtrack/OST since the movie/anime Your Name/Kimi No Na Wa). The music is diverse and fitting for the areas of the game yet they all individually standout. The only downside to the music is that this game didn’t have AAA marketing behind it so it’s a true shame we may never see orchestras play OT2’s music live.
There is a pleasant flow and rhythm to the menuing and the battles, making it enjoyable to manage your resources while simultaneously maximising your opportunities in battle. Battles are easy if you plan your moves, but the tide can turn if you lose focus. I never found the battle system tiresome (maybe due to the amazing music) that I was able to grind my way to level 90+ mostly. Beyond the battle system, the way the characters and the story interact with the world and NPCs is entertaining too. I spent 100+ hours on this game, and every action, decision, felt meaningful.
For a long time, I’ve been wanting Square to remake one of my favourite Final Fantasy’s. But since playing this game, I question is that really necessary? Even if a beloved game is remade with modern graphics and soundtrack…. Would it give me the same feeling of excitement and wonder that is experienced when you play an amazing game for the first time? Octopath Traveller 2 is a game that does just that. That feeling of playing an amazing RPG for the first time.. and giving you feelings you’ve never experienced before. That is something remakes can’t do. I’m playing FF7 Rebirth right now, and as a fan of FF7 Remake and the OG FF7… I think because of OT2 I’m not enjoying as much as I would hope. I don’t want to compare the games, but when I explore the rich, beautiful crafted world—that you question the necessity of the requirement for high graphical fidelity… Somehow, despite the lack thereof Octopath Traveller 2 really immerses you in the environment… and captivates you with the charm of its characters and mesmerise you with its music… OT2, perhaps momentarily, stops you from wishing the game you want to exist… by being the game that you need.
Thank you for this amazing game, Team Asano.
P.S Despite this game having moments where it is affected by Square’s censorship policies. Despite how much I oppose that, it still doesn’t diminish how much I love this game. That’s how much I love Octopath Traveller 2.
