Mythos is a Diablo like game, that was developed by one or some of the creators of Torchlight, before they went to work on the said game project. This game was built initially to be a mmorpg, but this version was modified to be playable on single player.
To begin with, the game has partial english translation, so part of the game is still in korean. The lack of translation can end up affecting quests, from their texts to objective display, and also classes, including the description of what their skill does. Due to the game not having any kind of translation patch or anything, can be quite troublesome to figure out what something does, or what a quest want you to do.
Due to the game being made to be a mmorpg, it is filled with quests asking you to go do something. That's the primary source of gold and experience in the game, unless you want to grind. Some of the quest texts, like mentioned above, are untranslated, so it can be hard to figure out the objective. Still, this game was made as an mmorpg, so one can try figuring out how to complete the objective on trial and error. Either the objective is acquired by killing monsters on the field, either by destroying rocks or plants on the field, or the objective is in a dungeon (You'll see a ? next to the icon of the dungeon, if any quest objective is in it).
The game features fields, with a few mobs that spawn on it, lots of npcs that will give you quests as they unlock, and a portal where you can select the dungeons on the field. Each dungeon has its level range, monsters, and also may offer loot. Dungeons that are somewhat more complex (has multiple floors), will also feature a locked chest at the end, that will give you lots of loot upon opening.
Beside quests, the main source of gold in the game can be acquired by dismantling items. To unlock the button of dismantling items, you have to go to the airship, and take it to Heaven island, then do part of the Crafting system quest line. After a certain step, a dismantling button will appear on your inventory, and you'll be able to destroy equipments for materials.
The reason why dismantling the equipment is necessary, is because not only equipments takes multiple inventory slots (like in Diablo), but also the equipments only sell for 1 copper on the store, regardless of rarity and level. Meanwhile, the materials sells for more and stacks.
As a diablo like, the gameplay is actually decent. You can find equipments by killing monsters, you can customize your character build, and there's lots of dungeons you can explore. Beside there's a Stamina counter on the game, the value of it is set really high so you can do dungeon as much as you want. And there's also a button above the minimap which allows you to reset dungeons, so you can keep playing them again.
And as mentioned above, the game features a crafting system. The crafting system seems nice, and seems to be able to make quite good gear out of it but... I have no idea where to get some of the materials. Like, I learned a Level 1 Musket recipe, and I have no idea where to get the wood necessary to craft it.
The equipment system reminds a lot of Torchlight, but I kind of miss the level requirement that Torchlight has.
Here, the equipments have stats requirement to allow you to use them. If you don't meet the requirement, you'll need to get the stats required through placing points on it on your build, or by getting gear that increases the stat.
At least on Torchlight, there was a level requirement, which was an extra requirement you could meet to be able to equip the item, so if you passed the level requirement, you don't need the stat requirement to equip it, beside, of course, passing the stat requirement means you equip the item earlier.
Another thing I don't like about this game though, is how some skills requires certain weapon types. For example, I can't use certain skills with my pyromancer character, because they require "Pyromancer Weapons", while my Pyromancer uses guns. I can understand if a melee swipe requires a Melee Weapon, but restricting certain spells to weapon type isn't cool, even more if it's skills to hurl bolts at an enemy.
It's also another thing that was done better on Torchlight, where skills aren't as restrictive of weapon you can use.
So, the game is fine, and might be okay for the price, but I can't recommend for those specific reasons:
* The game could have got a better english translation. I have no idea why this game got partial translation, even more since it rebooted on the west twice by english mmorpg publishers. And I doubt the game changed much from then.
* Probably asking too much, but multiplayer option would be nice. Being able to play with friends could be interesting. But I don't think the early game would be that interesting to play in multiplayer.
* Maybe turn available on the game stores some cash shop items. I believe the game had cosmetics and stuff that one could play with.
I kinda wish somehow that I had spent the money invested on this on better games though.
And if you want a fun Diablo like game that you can also only play solo, maybe better get Torchlight instead.
It doesn't features many quests, but features lots of dungeons, monsters and loot.
