Unique and criminally underrated. Playable Mockup is essentially a procedurally generated deck-building/management game through the lens of an investigator. Search through the ominous simulation by collecting "cards" to advance whilst unravelling the nature of the crime. Time is of the essence -- "it" is always getting closer. Fun in multiple runs!

The concept is interesting but its very confusing and progress is slow. You get a bunch of stats but none of them are really explained, so its trial and error, and theres also the mention of a sanity meter, but it isnt shown anywhere. Theres also the mentioning of a witch, but you dont get any info on that either. Probably needs more playthroughs to get really into it. It's hard to accurately describe my first-time experience with Playable Mockup, but I mean that in the best possible way. As other reviews say, it is a roguelike deckbuilding game. Its core mechanics are theoretically pretty standard, but it's dressed in a horror theme and will certainly feel unfamiliar when first starting out. The game is a bit esoteric, but the in-game explanations are sufficient to understand the game. While not terrifying, the game still does a really good job at being creepy and unsettling. Don't go into it expecting "just a horror game" because there is much more to it than that. At around three hours playtime, I was able to successfully finish a run in the standard Investigator Mode. Any given run can last about 15 to 25 minutes. There is definitely replay value beyond this with the RNG factors, ensuring runs won't feel exactly the same each time. An advanced mode and optional difficulty modifiers allow the game to be tweaked to provide more of a challenge as well. I found the game to be a unique and entertaining take on the deckbuilding mechanic.

I bought this game expecting a weird mashup between PT and a deckbuilder. I mean, that's what I got. But from my current understanding of the game's systems, it's more weird than anything else and is kind of a niche game that i'm not quite the target audience for. The tutorial mode is incredibly challenging, simply due to how badly the mechanics (IMO) are conveyed to the player. When the main antagonist is able to kill you seems arbitrary. Your sanity decreases seemingly randomly, but in larger amounts when interacting with certain cards/enemies. What each card does and how it effects the game takes a bit of time to learn but once you get the hang of it is fairly intuitive. The visuals are stylistic and get the tone across but also don't hold this game up for me. There isn't a good "get this if you want weird spooky stuff" rating, but I enjoyed the idea of this game and the reason it was on my wishlist in the first place far more than its actual execution, so for me it's a toss-up between thumbs up and down, but I decided to vote down simply because the mechanics I haven't learnt seem too obscure to be fun. Maybe I'll revisit this game and enjoy it more, maybe not. If this were more successful, at least in english, I'd be more disappointed. But as a small scale project, this is fine for its price if you're into the style of a bootleg PT meets weird themed deckbuilder.

unique concept that works really well combining a horror aesthetic with roguelite deckbuilding. immersive horror ambience, deep mechanics with a fun learning curve, good replayability.

Probably one of the most unique games I've ever played. Such a distinct style and creepy feeling that I've not seen replicated anywhere else - and such a strange take on a rogue-like. I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface of the many different game=play permutations within this. I've only beaten the training mode and even that was an ordeal. I don't know how much of the game is based on luck, but there's enough you can do as a player that makes you feel responsible for many of the consequences you may face in game - you have a lot of options. I'll probably release a more in depth review on this after playing further, but this game is far too unique to stay silent about for now.

EDIT: I also made a scripted video regarding this game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c68hTbGvb1k Otherwise I've also written my thoughts down I... think this game is good? First, I like the atmosphere, the constant mechanical noise of the generator in the hub area is nic. Sounds like a beating hard. It's fun managing the cards, energy and films you have. I like the noises the monsters make and I also really like how the corridor switches when you change emotions. This is a deep horror roguelike deck building game and I'm all for it! The pictures are creepy, the monsters are fairly interesting and the P.T. inspirition really did this game well. It's fun and kinda creepy and you cannot forget that this game is super cheap. But this game does have some problems. Firstly things are kinda explained but it's obvious that the person who made the translations isn't fluent in English, witch makes an already fairly complicated game really hard to understand. I THINK the win condition is to make it through 12 hours? I'm honestly not sure. It's also not super clear if I'm supposed to kill the monsters by photographing them or not. there is a "Sanity" system that I thought was your health. And it is and isn't. So first I thought the monsters take your sanity away but it seems like that just goes down naturally and I don't think there is a way to restore it? Once you hit 25 Sanity, the corridor flips and it seems that when that happens, you've essentially lost. There is a mention of the lose condiion, called the "witch". Speaking of the witch using certain body parts to move and how it's "getting closer". She'S essentially the lose conition. When she appears, you lose. But there is no way to keep track of her, I don't think? Maybe there is but who knows, really. It has some connection to the sanity, but not really because I've been killed by her at 50 sanity. It seems sanity just increases her chances to appear? As you can see, having played about an hour of this game, I'm still quite lost on the mechanics here and there. I get the core concept, but I don't get the details sometimes. That being said, I still have tons of fun playing this game and hey, maybe if more people play it, somebody can figure out the mechanics one day.

A fun little game with great replay value and each round can be completed in around 20-30 minutes, just a bit weak on the horror side though. Thanks Shishiro Botan 獅白ぼたん for steaming this game and get me hooked.
