I want to say that this game has pros and cons like most games, but for me the cons far outweigh the pros, and if just one of the cons were fixed, it would turn the game around. Pros - Beautiful artwork - Good metroidvania feel - Decent gameplay Cons - Terrible save system - Enemy count per room after a certain point way too high - Some bosses are super cheap in their tactics - Clunky platforming - Terrible damage/life balance The Good I will say, the artwork is fantastic, I love the look of the world and characters, and the game has that magic feel that you are in a metroidvania, the excitement of finding an impassible puzzle or object knowing that you will get to come back later and find something cool. That is all there, and the gameplay is pretty on par with other great metroidvanias. The Bad This section will be considerably longer, I'm going to start with the most glaring issue, the saving system. If you save at a save room, go half way across the map, then die, you get nothing except an express trip half way back across the map and a large load of frustration. This is not the first metroidvania to do this, but at least the other ones that have, have far more save points, honestly I almost refunded the game over this. Dev, fix it. When you hit a certain point in the game, getting through each room in an area becomes a slow crawl through tons of enemies that will have you trying to run back to that last save room to get your life back, you can't even tell when you've been hit most of the time. Then you have this weird balance of bosses that are really easy, and then some that have the cheapest tactics of almost any boss I have ever seen, I don't know why developers think we like this, we don't. The platforming is mediocre at best, I can't even tell you the amount of times I've tried to jump from any certain point and my double jump or other skills would simply just not work, leaving me to fall into the aforementioned sea of enemies and die, then get sent so far back, I rage quit. The last thing I can't stand is that you start with so little life, sure in most Zelda games you only start with 3 or 4 hearts, but most enemy hits that early on only do a quarter heart damage, damage in this game is done only in halves, and early on, starting with 4 hearts, there are some enemies that can hit you for a heart and a half of damage, and that seems super unbalanced. Summary Overall, unfortunately this games beautiful artwork and charming feel could not save it from it's terrible mechanics and it's somewhat unbalanced nature, I don't even think I could recommend it on a sale, even if you are a sadist that enjoys the pain of ripping your hair from your scalp every 20 minutes. The game would be far more redeemable if the dev would at least add some more save points or at least an autosave function.
