I have played Ultimate General and Ultimate Admiral games several times through. I am finding Ultimate General: American Revolution impossible to get into, with the less-than-useless tutorial videos. They are impossible to see the details, run too fast to keep up with and impossible to pause. Why not allow a pause feature in a video? Such basic mistakes are unforgivable. I stopped playing in June 2024 and returned to it in April 25, hoping it would have improved. How wrong was I? I have also noticed how the reviews have bombed since release. Developers, please fix.

Maybe it isn't completely finished, but what is there works. Yes, the campaigns are large and requires a learning effort. A big project indeed. It feels like Paradox Grand Strategy and Total War had a love child. The way strategic level combat in real time is integrated with the potential tactical battles is brilliant. Paradox should learn from this.

This game is amazing! I love it. I highly recommend for anyone into military strategy games. Also, there's not many games that cover the American Revolution so it's nice to see it done. Because of this game I bought the Civil War one as well. Both are amazing.

So this is not a finished product, Game Developer went under. It's not unplayable but very rough around the edges. It's a massively ambitious combining elements of the previous Ultimate games. In one sense it close to being a knockoff of Total War and the actual battle mode is lacking compare to Ultimate General which was what I was hoping for only for the American Revolution. With and actual tactical map the game play becomes rather meh, especially in regards to historicity. The major events/invasion like Boston, New York, Philadelphia are accurate on having the something like accurate landing and troop movements and troop levels for the time. But all too much of the time there is periodic randomly scripted influx of British troops at any or all parts of the map regardless of where it happened or not. Also is gone from the Ultimate General game is the carefully researched maps and topography and where troops show up on both enemy and yours in place you get a certain amount of randomness combined on where your troops are in relation to the AI on the main map when you enter the battle map. Finally the main map is huge after script events and goals are met to further open it a chunk at a time making keeping track of everything happening and responding to invasions difficult. You get some red flashing dots on the map but it may escape your notice. Finally doing anything on the main map requires a General to see what is going on in the immediate vicinity. You cannot act on things outside his pervue on the map and you can't hire Generals as you see fit they become only available after certain research or events make them available to you. This means your single or even two generals may have to cross huge swathes of the map to put down invasions. Going to ask for a partial refund for this.

The game is good, really good. However, the company went over (don't ask us how), and game is likely abandoned.

Abandoned by the developer.
It is a decent concept for a game, sadly development was cut short. The only reason I'm leaving a not recommended is because it was left unfinished. The development team did a fine job, unfortunately the parent company that bought Game Labs dropped the development team after they made their money.

Abandoned game.
Make no mistake, this is an early access game disguised as a full release. The developers were abruptly dropped from the company mid-development and the game was officially released right afterwards.
