Lacking in Tutorial is main issue, but once learned it's great, enjoying the AI opponent tactics on large map and battlefield. 40 hours in and I'm still learning game mechanics for economy etc. and haven't done a lot with naval battles. Cut scene art is great, and new challenges for game rewards pop up throughout in a manageable way. Tough game, gotta play true to Revolutionary War. Win battles by feints to split enemy and attack piece meal - don't face off British with even numbers. Win by not losing - avoid battles without clear advantage. Challenging and a good addition to Ultimate General.

Ignore the negative reviews. I enjoyed this one a lot! Fun strategy game. Very stable. One CTD in like 60ish hrs of game play time. There's a whole lot to manage in this game with a moderate to hard learning curve. Very pretty map/graphics. Sounds are decent. Music is nice.

I play the American side. I like the game design on global map movement and battle. A ground battle is triggered when the General's circle of influence covers the fighting troops. Here better tactics can win the day. Everything else is a headache. Map movement is slow, research is locked and snail paced. Nothing is given without consequence for the player's action. I got small ships but no match with the British. Cannot raise troops because no officers are available. Using the General's reputation to speed up research and buy mercenaries can end the game to my dismay. Speeding up time can be a disaster since the enemy develops at the same time with stronger troops coming from all sides. I cannot mention all the mechanics of the game, the cause and effect to deal with as time advances. This is not a kid's game in my opinion. The challenge to win this game requires patience, better planning and wise execution.

Honestly if they could fix the crashing this would be good (especially crashing at the end of a battle meaning you have to redo the whole thing (you can't save in battle).
if they added some polish this would be GREAT

Everything in this game is complicated and non-intuitive. I had great difficulty trying to figure out how to do basic things like: build new units, move units around, form a regiment, send officers on missions. I gave up pretty quick. Not recommended.

Read a lot of reviews on it and honestly, half of them are complaints about balancing which i dont have an issue with it personally, i saw someone else make a good point it's a game about the American Revolution shit wasn't fair literally. Anyways im a big fan of the gameplay and graphics especially with the tactical battles, i wish they had it like this with the American Civil War one, that would be really fun if so.

Easily the weakest game in the Ultimate General Series. The switch from linear campaigns to an RTS format is poorly implemented. Since the game is now abandoned, no fixes or improvements will be forthcoming.

In it's current state it is competitive with AGEOD's game as the best rendition of the American Revolution.
That said, it could do with more work:
- Economics should be emphasised less and class/religious dynamics introduced in its place.
- Allegiance shouldn't be Rebel/Loyalist it should be Neutral/Rebel/Loyalist, something like the HOI3 system.
- State governments should be modelled as cooperation between them and the continental congress was limited.
- The intervention of other European powers should be dependent on the perceived weakness of the Brits.
- There should be an option to skip the wack-a-mole stage of the conflict in 1775 and start the campaign during the actual war.
-Taxes should not destroy loyalist support to the degree that it does. This should be determined by religion, politics, and escalation.

I played Ultimate general (civil war for 157 hrs). Great game. Loved it.
This game is a good sequel and has alot of unique points that are cool additions to the franchise. Overall, however, I think it needs a little more TLC.

Why You Should Buy Ultimate General: American Revolution:
• If you're a fan of Total War games, you need to check out Ultimate General: American Revolution.
• I've been playing Total War since Rome: Total War, and it's been my favorite series ever since. I've played almost all the historical ones, and I absolutely love them.
• Let me tell you this: Ultimate General: American Revolution is even better than the Total War series in many ways. When it comes to tactical battles, it stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the best of them, like Fall of the Samurai and Napoleon. In some aspects, it even surpasses them, though it has areas where it falls short.
• The economy, politics, loyalty system, and other mechanics in Ultimate General are incredibly well-done—easily ten times better than anything in the Total War games.
• For just $20, the cost of a meal at McDonald's, you'll get hundreds of hours of amazing gameplay. Ignore the negative reviews and give this game a chance. You won't regret it.
• Sure, it's not perfect. There are a few minor issues that could have been resolved if the company hadn't gone under. However, these problems are negligible compared to the enjoyment this game offers. It's truly fantastic.
Let’s address some of the critics:
1) “The game is hard and unbalanced.” Well, it absolutely isn’t. On normal difficulty, it’s actually quite easy. You just need to use your brain to understand the economic system and learn how to utilize concentrated firepower and maneuvering to overwhelm your foe. Position your units to attack the enemy from all directions and focus artillery fire on a single unit until it routs. Keep repeating this strategy, and you’ll win every battle. Simple as that.
2) “The deployment area is too small, and units are all cramped together.” This criticism clearly shows the person doesn’t understand how the system works. If you group your units into brigades, each brigade will have its own deployment area spread across the battlefield.
3) “If I positioned my troops on the strategic map in a certain way, I want this to be reflected in tactical deployment. But this doesn’t happen.” Yet again, the critic hasn’t grasped the mechanics of the system. If you position brigades strategically to outflank your enemy, this will indeed be represented on the tactical map. However, if your units aren’t grouped into brigades, they’ll be bunched together in one deployment rectangle, which doesn’t reflect strategic positioning.
4) “The British keep invading the U.S. and don’t give me room to breathe.” This complaint is laughable. The Americans were up against the superpower of the time. That’s exactly how it was historically. The game does an AMAZING job of simulating what the experience must have been like for the patriots. Honestly, this is one of the highlights of the game. It’s supposed to feel like this—it was a fight for survival.
5) “Bugs and crashes.” Personally, I haven’t encountered a single bug or crash in more than 50 hours of gameplay. The game runs flawlessly.
PLEASE, BUY IT AND IGNORE THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. Many negative reviews were written by individuals who only played the game for a few hours, which for sure will not be sufficient to fully understand it. Only a few negative reviews come from players who have thoroughly played the game.
