I really enjoyed this Game, but i did not play the first Game. It´s cute with its Artstyle and the interaction with other cats. I would recommend to use the Wiki for Help, there you get all informations you need.

I bought the other game ages, but me and the person I bought it for were so bad at hunting we both near immediately gave up on the game. This game advanced and correct so much of the mechanics it is very fun to play, and is clear what was intended for the prior installment. The story though not far in is engaging, and a fun experience. I wish more developers would take more risks in different approaches, and protagonist options.
There are always improvements that should be sought, but for price point and such I certainly can't complain. Well done.

Cattails: Wildwood Story is a gentle, immersive life simulation RPG that builds beautifully on the foundation of its predecessor. Set in a mystical forest known as the Wildwood, you take on the role of a customizable cat tasked with rebuilding a colony and discovering ancient secrets buried deep within the land. The game balances exploration, community-building, and personal storytelling with a calming rhythm that invites players to settle in for long, rewarding sessions. While it carries forward much of what made the original game charming, it expands its systems and customization options in meaningful ways, crafting a richer and more polished experience overall.
One of the game’s most engaging features is the deep level of personalization. From the beginning, you can fully design your cat’s appearance, with detailed options for coat patterns, colors, accessories, and body shapes. You also get to choose where to place your colony—be it a misty swamp, serene forest, tropical beach, or even a volcano—each biome offering unique visual and gameplay experiences. Building and decorating your den, laying out your settlement, and managing the growth of your colony add layers of creative expression and long-term investment. This sense of ownership over your world makes every decision, every relationship, and every corner of the map feel personal and meaningful.
Gameplay is centered around a day-night cycle where you gather food, build relationships with other cats, explore dungeons, and defend your colony from mysterious shadow creatures known as Voidlings. Hunting requires stealth and timing, while exploration reveals hidden resources and magical ruins. A robust skill system allows for upgrades to health, hunger, speed, and combat, rewarding players who engage with the game’s many activities. Mining offers a roguelike twist with multiple levels to explore, each one brimming with danger, treasures, and useful crafting materials. Though combat can be simplistic and occasionally repetitive, it still adds tension and stakes to an otherwise serene experience.
Relationships form the emotional backbone of the game. You can befriend and eventually marry many of the cats you meet, each with distinct personalities and backstories. Over time, your relationships shape the colony, with NPCs forming bonds with each other and even starting families. Conversations feel dynamic and responsive to your actions, making interactions more than just flavor text. Seasonal festivals and small events further flesh out the community, making it feel like a living, evolving world. The slower pace of life, combined with heartfelt dialogue and moments of quiet reflection, gives the game an emotional warmth that’s rare in the genre.
Visually, the game employs a clean, colorful pixel-art style that fits its cozy tone. Sprites are expressive, animations are fluid, and the changing seasons give the world a sense of natural progression. The soundtrack is soft and melodic, with jazzy undertones that shift depending on time and weather, enhancing the meditative quality of the gameplay. Every sound—from birdsong to rain to the rustling of grass—is crafted to deepen immersion, drawing players into a space that feels gentle and inviting.
While the game leans heavily into its peaceful, low-stress identity, there are some limitations. Combat and dungeon progression may lack complexity for players seeking challenge, and some story arcs can feel light or underdeveloped. Post-story content relies on player-driven goals, which could leave some craving more structured late-game progression. Still, for many, the appeal lies in precisely that openness—the freedom to set your own pace and your own narrative in a world that rewards curiosity and kindness.
Cattails: Wildwood Story doesn’t aim to be an adrenaline rush or a deeply strategic simulation. Instead, it succeeds by offering a heartfelt, relaxing experience filled with charm, depth, and emotional connection. It’s a game about finding your place in a new world, forming bonds, and making a home. Whether you’re hunting in the rain, watching the stars from your den, or raising a family of kittens, it captures a quiet magic that makes it hard to walk away. For players who enjoy slow-burn storytelling, gentle management, and cozy exploration, this game is a gem worth savoring.

So this game is cute..And I got it because I was really hoping for a copy game of something like stardew...but not stardew lol. Plus I love cats. However, maybe it's just me, but the controls are really clunky. My mouse has an odd delay behind it and makes it unpleasant to use. And fighting is nearly impossible. If I charge something, I can't seem to turn my cat to aim properly? And there's no way to move out of the way quickly (dodge doesn't do much when it comes to enemies) and then attack after they do. It's sorta just a head to head constantly which means after 2 bats I'm dead. Again, cute game. Lots of work clearly went into it but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone until they improve the controls a bit. Mainly the fighting ones.

My comfort game. My love. My favorite game.
I'm not one for finishing games and this is the only one I've gone through the main story of twice (once on Steam and one on Nintendo Switch). The cats remind me of my own cats and provide such comfort to me because of their distinct personalities.
I love the inclusion of the cats marrying one another and having kittens. It makes the game seem more alive. The cats are all interesting including their kittens.
Its a repetitive gameplay loop that can be comforting at times. The soundtrack is good enough that I listen to it when I'm not playing the game. This is honestly one of my favorite games of all time.
There's also a new game+ for those that enjoy that sort of thing. The only reason I didn't do it was because of my love for my kittens.
A great game overall that I come back to time and time again.
