Ever read the reviews for a game and you think to yourself, 'Did they play the same game I did?'
That's how I feel about Telestians. The game was shallow and simple and lacking in strategic depth.
If it created a mood, that mood was boredom.
Although tagged as turn based, the game is "turn based" only in the sense that you have to hit an "end of turn" button after you move all your units. Battles are automatic. Bump into an enemy and the armies go at it until one of you is dead.
Auto-battlers aren't fun for me, but if the kingdom and fortress management is engaging then it's not a deal breaker.
As far as I could tell in the time played - which in fairness to the game, was short - there wasn't any kingdom management or tactical depth at all. Bump into a fortress and auto battle it, if you win, you choose whether to raze it or capture it.
If you capture it, you can conscript more units to bump into more fortresses.
Maybe if I played longer the game would have revealed itself to be wonderfully tactical and strategic, but I don't think so.
Proceed at your own peril.
Purchase this game, play it. Hear the lamentations of gamers.
