Here's the story of how the game got ruined... by not inverting the vehicle camera.
This game is supposed to be an awesome, dynamic, and action-packed experience. And it actually is!
EXCEPT for the fact that you CANNOT invert the mouse controls for vehicles like cars, tanks, and spaceships. This game has FIVE settings to invert controls, and none of them let you invert the mouse when driving cars, space ship or tanks! I can't imagine how amazing this game could have been because every time I saw the next ride, I was like, "Oh frack, here we go again!" Fighting with inverted controls instead of enemies is sooo frustrating!
Why can you invert the camera but not the freaking CAR CAMERA?! How is it normal to have some controls inverted and others not?
So yeah—if you play with inverted Y-axis settings, do not get this game. Sadly.

Developed by the creator of Pumpkin Jack (which is an amazing game, go check that one out - very much a spiritual successor to MediEvil), I was very excited for Akimbot. And, I like Akimbot, it's a good game. But it has issues preventing it from being a GREAT game.
It's a throwback action platformer that would have fit in well on the PS2 library. It has a Ratchet And Clank feel, most similar to Ratchet Deadlocked. The combat gameplay and platforming are fun. And as somebody who severely misses the edgy, mean spirited nature of games from the 2000s, it was nice to play a game with a protagonist who was kind of an ass again.
That said, the game drags. Especially towards the end. There are far too many drawn out mini-game set piece sections. There are only four main weapons, and four super weapons. But you can only equip one super weapon at a time. The game would have benefited from more weapons. The characters talk CONSTANTLY, and are always yelling. It's endearing at first, but gets annoying quick. Worst of all there are some bugs and glicthes that aren't game breaking, but are irritating.
It's a fun game that scraches that PS2 era itch, but has some irritations.

There's a lot of reviews comparing this game to Ratchet&Clank, which in my opinion is far too generous: this is a strictly linear action platformer with 8 weapons TOTAL (and only 4 of them will see regular use), levels that are almost perfect corridors besides the short "secret" side paths (sometimes indistinguishable from the main path) with a collectible at the end, minimal progression mechanics, way too many reskins of what are fundamentally the same enemies, uninteresting story...
In R&C you'll go from just having a basic pistol to wiping whole screens of enemies using absurdly over-the-top weapons, in Akimbot you'll go from using your basic assault rifle to slowly kill basic ranged enemies in a robot mobster skin to using your basic assault rifle to slowly kill basic ranged enemies in a robot dinosaur skin in the same exact number of shots.
But hey, the final boss fight has a Flappy Bird section on top of all the other gimmick sections recycled from the rest of the game, surely that's going to set this game apart.
