Simple, but fun. Needs a couple of bugs ironed out, but a solid game for the price.

Please note this review is for the Alpha build of the game (v2.7)
Pirate Dragons is a game with a great foundation, one which I am very excited to see developed further. As it stands you can engage in battles with up to 8 ships (4v4) as well as enemy dragons to contend with. The battles are difficult enough to give you pause and assess each situation before engaging but not so difficult as to be a pain in the hole. Just don't charge a Kraken class ship with your 6 cannon guppy.
You can engage in trade and faction relations, as far as I can tell positive relations don't currently have an effect on game play. Negative relations seem to have the relative faction engage you in combat, which is a nice touch. Trading is implemented as each town / port will have different prices for different goods. However I didn't use this feature as I was earning enough money from pillaging fleets, perhaps at a later date trading and faction relations will be more fleshed out.
The over world map, in which you navigate from port to port and can choose to engage in battles and random events. Is in my opinion a little too focused in, I felt it was a little hard to get my bearings without constantly hitting the (m) key to bring up the Map interface. However, during my 4 or so hours of play I got used to it quickly and it became less of a bother.
I won't harp on here about what I feel the game needs or should have, I'm sure the developer has a roadmap and many of my suggestions are probably already in the works or planned to be implemented. So, I will leave the review here. Buy it! For $3 bucks (maybe less if you live in another country) you're getting one hell of an experience.
TLDR; Buy it!

it's what it looks like it is in the trailer. you will pay $3 to do strafing runs on pirate ships as a dragon. that's a really easy purchase decision

Nice, fun little game. Bubblegum for the brain, maybe? Straightforward gameplay, low mental commitment required, great for those times when you just have a few minutes and want to blow something up. Hope to see the studio flesh it out a bit more. It is fun as is, but has the potential to be more.

There's a lot here to like and a lot........missing.
Game pad controls need to be implemented, interface and presentation needs to be cleaned up for clarity.
The game is very much still in an Alpha stage.
I hope the dev returns to support the game because the concept and game play are tits.
Sadly very difficult to play and enjoy in it's current form.

The game plays right out of the box on the Steam Deck, also for 3 dollars it is well worth the asking price despite still being an alpha.
Here is some gameplay for those curious:

Added what I asked for in under 24 hours. Great dev. Fun game. Cheap price. Any further questions?
1.0 release and it doesn't have ANY camera controls? Camera follows when battling which is fine but while exploring you can see anything. It seems like a decent game for the price but it needs a rotating camera for explore mood ASAP. Once that happens I'll recommend.

A lot of fun! There's pirates AND dragons, what's not to like? You play as a dragon with up-gradable abilities and can grow your faction and also improve your boats. You can build relationships with other fleets and explore the map in order to find the best places to sell loot. If you're lucky you can find some treasure chests along the way. The combat is fun and involves some strategizing with all the different abilities you can unlock.
