Wavetale is one of those rare games that instantly connects with you — through its serene art style, fluid movement mechanics, and surprisingly deep storytelling. Gliding over the water feels incredibly satisfying, and the visuals are like a watercolor painting come to life.
The narrative is touching, with themes of loss, hope, and rebuilding, and the voice acting adds real emotion to the journey. The music complements the gameplay beautifully, swelling during intense moments and calming you during exploration.
It's not about combat or grinding — it's about feeling the world, and that's what makes it so special. If you're looking for a wholesome adventure that stays with you long after the credits roll, this is it.
Highly recommend to fans of Journey, Rime, or Spiritfarer.

I was so excited for this game. Love the graphics and the traversal is addicting. This game was very much what I was looking for. I unfortunately had to return this game because you cannot save!! The game auto-saves only in very selective areas so any time you close out the game you've lost all your progress. This makes this impossible for me to play. If they ever add a patch to change this I will buy it again for sure.

The game is pretty, it has a unique art style, and surfing as a way to travel is probably the highlight. Feels like you're flying all over the place. However, it feels more like a mobile game - it features a lot of repetitive objectives and lacks the substance to justify the original price.

In the absence of a neutral button, I'm picking thumbs down.
The story is fine, but nothing special, it was pretty predictable. There's not much incentive for me to really explore the world as each island feels basically the same as the others I've visited, and there's nothing to do in them unless you're collecting in-game items. Combat on land is clunky and unrewarding, I ignored enemies towards the end unless required to progress. However, fighting striders on water is fun.
You can only surf in the ocean for so long until you get bored because there's really not much to do but just glide across waves where the world feels the most empty. It's a shame traversing on land isn't as satisfying as surfing on water as that is easily the strongest aspect of the game.
(Playtime is inflated 2x as I left the game on idle)

The first 10 minutes is the toughest, but once you push through, it becomes an enjoyable game.
The first request is just awful. It asks the player to collect Sparkles, but I had no idea what those were and where to find them. Turns out they’re the slime-looking blue creatures, and “collect” means to attack them. It’s a small island, but the request is split into several parts, instead of letting player collect them all at once at the lighthouse, beach, park, etc., those requests were given one after another, making you revisit places and strain your eyes looking for them. It wasn’t fun and I almost quit, thinking the whole game was full of these meaningless requests. Gladly, it’s not - later game offers a good map and precise locations, but the first impression is bad. Once you leave the first island, the game gets so much better.
Wavetale is a story-driven adventure game with a water theme, featuring parkour, climbing, and a bit of fighting. I enjoyed the double jump and airborne skill - The jump is high, gliding time is long, letting you explore almost anywhere on the map. My favorite part is walking/surfing on water. While traveling between islands, you can take a boat trip or jump off for slide rides on smaller islands nearby for a dash, which gives you a speed boost. If you’re good, you’ll be flying above the boat and speeding up with it.
The requests are generally repetitive, like asking you to reach somewhere or hit a button/generator. The fun part is the climbing. When you reach a new place, you should look up for interacting points and figure out how to get to higher spots. You may need to use sliders, jump on a bouncer, glide, which can be challenging sometimes.
Besides, the game doesn’t force you into fights. Except for boss fights, you can ignore regular enemies and still complete requests. Defeating enemies gives coins for shopping, where you can purchase new suits, hats, hair colors. Still, I found coins more than abundant since they’re almost everywhere.
The story isn’t that captivating. I skipped most of it, knowing it’s about cleaning the evil fog, sacrifice, daring to ask, daring to act etc. But some small dialogues caught my eye, like ones about parents raising the first child not as well as the second, and, someone chasing something for a lifetime in vain while another person has it without realizing its importance. Also, the facial expressions for characters were well done.
I finished the game in a bit over 3 hours. Overall I think it’s a decent game, the base is okay, it’s those little things I mentioned add up to make it good. I think 3 hours is the right length for this game. Btw, the walking speed is satisfying, and there are side quests like speed contests if you want to test your skills or get achievements.
I got this game at 95% off, it’s a good deal.

Very smooth and enjoyable gameplay, interrupted by cutscenes more often than I would like. You can catch yourself in a flow state, comparable to Mirrors Edge. The length is ideal, you can complete it in a week in 1-2 hour sessions, if you do not do all the side quests.

Really the only three things going for this game are it's visuals, score, and voice acting. The most important aspect of this game falls flat, and that's the gameplay. The combat and platforming are so bland and the game never introduces new elements to keep things interesting. Also it's barely a 4 hour experience for such a high price. 29.99 as of the review. I'm thankful I got it on sale. I will not be playing this again and don't recommend it.

I have a huge fear of the ocean but this game didn't hit any of those feelings, it was the opposite! The movement is smooth and satisfying! One of the best I've played in video games, it really gave me the 'freedom' feeling <3 the art style is beautiful, really well done. Same with the voice acting, the voice acting really suited the characters! The story actually got me emotional, it was surprisingly sad and also made me laugh at times :p its one of the best games I've played this year, really underrated game!! Also super fun to 100% you basically just have to complete the story and do the smallest extra little things that take no time to do :)

Fun little game, with really well put together mobility. It feels really good to dart around on the waves. It's not overly long but that can be nice in the sense that it doesn't overstay it's time.

It's unfortunately an underwhelming game. While the artstyle, environments, and music are very nice and provide a cozy/relaxing backdrop, the story, characters, and core gameplay elements just fell flat to me. While I get the sentiment the game was going for, there wasn't much pull or intrigue to it. In terms of gameplay, you'll pretty much experience 90% of the mechanics at the very beginning, and the systems never really evolve much past that. It does pain me to leave a negative review, but I can't recommend it, especially not at $30.
