This is the perfect example of a great concept which really needs a sequel to become cemented as a classic. Absolutely beautiful music and nice visuals give this a really dreamy vibe the whole way through, especially as you're skating across the water and swinging around the halfpipes scattered around the world.
I'm holding out hope that a sequel will expand the combat and platforming challenges, because this game has laid out such a terrific foundation that I'd love to see explored further.

This game is absolutely amazing!!!!! I love everything about it so far! The fluid movement, the vivid scenery, the way that the story is revealed in small bits at a time through interactions with people and through clues you collect in your notebook, as well as the freedom you have to explore all contribute to making this easily one of the best games I've ever played!

The most immaculate movement feel I've seen in a game in /ages/. Nice combat rhythm, story, and characters, but my goodness I could just surf around in this for days on end.

An absolute gem of a game. The traversal mechanics are amazingly fluid, and the game makes the best use of making you feel like your soaring over the water. The puzzles are definitely casual, but there are a few challenges in there. The story is engaging, and the game doesn't overstay it's welcome. Can thoroughly recommend this.

good game simple enough to get some relaxing moments, no complex puzzles or try to find your path for a long time.

I really loved the way this game felt to play. It not only feels wonderful gliding on the water but platforming is extremely satisfying. This is a game I can see myself going back into just to wander around and enjoy the music.
The story was simple but lovely and I enjoyed the pace of everything. I do wish it was a little longer but that may just be because I liked playing through it.
I had such a difficult time putting it down so much so that I also bought this game on my switch as well :)
My only critiques would be:
- Having a save system as well as a checkpoint system would be beneficial. In free play after the game is done, it is hard to discern when it is safe to turn off the game, especially if you are collecting currency to unlock the rest of the outfit pieces.
- You can customise your character's appearance a bit but, the customised look does not show up in the cutscenes (it would be really cool if it did)
- Re-mapping (or having the option to) the hook / grapple to the other trigger rather than the bumper of the same side as the run. I was claw-gripping on the right side of my controller for most of the last half of the game (I played using an Xbox controller)

Charming little platformer adventure. It's rare for a game that has 'combat' and some honestly 'dark' themes to be so steadily relaxing to play.

a super cute adventure platformer with a sweet story. the movement was SOO smooth it was so fun to play :) i think it's too short for the price though (took me 5-6 hours to finish) -- definitely get it on sale

A wonderful 3D platformer merging traditional mechanics with surfing. The game has fantastic art direction and is very beautiful while at the same time being incredibly fun, intuitive, and smooth to control. It is not very long and has limited replayability so the standard price is quite high, however I enjoyed every moment with it and would definitely recommend it both on or off sale, particularly if you are not someone who mainly values games by price per hour. The story is a straightforward and somewhat predictable cautionary tale about environmental damage and its consequences, which is strengthened by a diverse and lovable cast of characters. Suitable for children and enjoyable for adults, I would say anyone looking for a relaxing, pretty platforming game will find a lot to love in Wavetale.

Wavetale is a game that doesn't recognize what makes it fun. It is a superbly created high-paced platforming movement system with a unique water surfing mechanic. Yet, the game is hellbent on cramming an excessive amount of overexplained narrative into every moment of gameplay. Add to that meaningless combat and fetch quests to take an exceptional game experience and drive it straight into the grave.
Satisfying gameplay moments: surfing, diving, grappling, riding the waterslides, Asta's time challenges, climbing the serpents minus the cutscenes and dialogue
Beautiful narrative moments: Sigrid singing/talking to herself on the water, conversations about the shadow in the water that leaves its mystery
This game would be best served by the adage "less is more": less cutscenes, less dialogue, more exploration, more mystery.
