A huge step up from the first game. I really liked the first one, but this one is just beautiful.
But, they added a lot more mechanics, like a skill tree, or equipable items that change your stats and abilities.
And the game now has boss fights.
All that change the over all gameplay loop of the game.
In contrast to the linear first game, this one is structured very diffrently.
In SotN2 you explore the map, search dungeons that contain plattforming passages and puzzels, to gain items and skill points. You have to travel different areas (a snowy mountain, a coastal region, etc). Within each area you have to find three dungeos, to aquire three items, to unlock boss of the area.
The Bosses are the only enemies in the game and each requires a diffrent taktic and skillset. Sometimes it's a bit trial and error, to find the right combination.
Summary:
The good stuff: The world is beautiful. The game looks great. Exploration is fun, there is a lot to discover and the game rewards you for looking around. There are some locations that are hard to find and completly optional, that give some really cool awards. There are many, really cool locations and puzzles. And the game has an extensive character creator for your fox and you can find new skins and eyecolors.
The not so good stuff: Some Bossfights are needlessly difficult and have multiple phases. If you die, you have to start the fight all over again and you die very fast. You cannot heal yourself during those fights. And most times you can only take 3 - 5 hits in total. The movement is a bit janky at times, which can make the plattforming a bit frustrating.

I like the game quite a lot. Compared to the first one quite a few things got better. The pacoure for example. The collecting of Whisps is something I dont like to much, but towards the end I was quite good at finding them. Played through the game in around 20 hours

very different from spirit of the north 1 in a lot of ways (you can die, there are boss fights, the map is a lot more open world), but overall still similar enough (a lot of the same *feel*, some musical themes that seem to have carried over, visually it still feels like it's the same world.
overall fun to learn and play, lots of fun secrets to find
the official discord is absolutely miserable though lol. this is a solo game, we are we being encouraged into middle school cliques and unable to post until you meet hidden requirements(????), I only joined the stupid thing in the hopes that I could join the Light Weaver hunts to help me get all the colors and potentially help others with their achievements, but even with it set to have no notifications, it's still obnoxious.
still recommend the game, just absolutely don't recommend the discord

amazing game, literally blew it out of the park and very much exceeded my expectations. i was already obsessed with the first game, i played it at least 7 times and i don't like replaying games that are the same thing every time. then this game came out, and i proceeded to play it for 12 hours straight for 3 days. literally amazing game could not recommend it more

Really surpassed expectations from the first. This is massive, every nook and hole inspected is rewarding. The story telling through not just the environment, but lore scrolls too, makes you want to find all the pieces to this deep story. You can tell just how much love and care was put into this. The soundtrack really encapsulating every area perfectly.

Game was ok, with a mild sprinkle of insanity. After playing for a couple of hours into the game, I decided to use a mod-tool to help me with the "traversing" of the map.
There were plenty, I meant... Several times I wanted to uninstall the game for its compilation of rage that it accumulated for me so to get rid of all of these hurdles, I let myself have infinite glide, God mode during puzzles only. Because boss fights are fun without it. This game made me spend over 20 minutes on 1 jumping puzzle and that was only in a small section of a puzzle room too. I am not going through that again so I just jumped over with infinite jumps and toggled it back off.
Q: Do I still play it?
A: Yes, I play it but with the mods I've enabled. I am never going back to playing this on vanilla. The first 2 to 4 hours was fine but then after a while of doing the same puzzle over 30 minutes, getting stuck and there are no hints on what to do? Just jump over them, or wall clip through.
Q: Am I ruining my own fun?
A: The game itself is ruining my mental health. So to ease that, I had help with the mod tool. Will the devs be mad? yes, but I do not care. It helps me cope with playing the game. If the developers intended the game to permanently lock you on hard mode. I'm playing on Story Mode as I preferred it to be.
Q: Is it cheating?
A: Yes, in a mentally good way. Would you rather spend hours on a puzzle you cannot solve? and have no tips or hints on how to do it? then yes, having a mod-tool to bypass that annoying puzzle really helps.
Q: Why not just search it up online, A guide on youtube?
A: That's also considered cheating but what's the fun in that. If you see the solution, you wouldn't feel motivated to continue the more times you search it up on Youtube and eventually, you'll instead watch an entire playthrough of someone else doing it instead of you playing the game.
Q: What do you do if you cannot find gateways?
A: Use the modtool's X Y Z Teleport menu. If I can't find a gateway in a region after exploring most of it. I'll just use the teleport function from the tool.
Q: If there's a Spirit of the North 3 in the future, would you get it?
A: Yes, and I'll start by immediately getting a modtool for it as soon as possible. I'd rather player it in story mode than do the most obnoxious puzzles I see.

What can I say, I loved this game so very much. From chill music to beautiful graphics. I could honestly just stay by the water and watch it forever. I loved some of the intricate details like unlocking a fox den and using a torch to make it homier and lighting other torches. Loved the dungeons and the creepy atmosphere to some of them. How the fog, rain, and snow roll across the land. I seen a lot of complaints on the bosses being too hard. I did not find them to be hard when equipping the proper runes, the difficulty felt exactly right, beating them all first try except the last one.
The two wolves being my favorite out of all of them.
Also being a fox and screaming at everything was plain fun. So much customization and options for your fox character as well. I loved exploring every inch of the map and this game very much rewards you for doing so. Game gave me some Okami vibes with restoring some areas which I adored. Jumping can be finicky at times but feels so good jumping to small beams and ledges balancing with ease just like a real fox.
My personal QOL thoughts but I felt that some of the runes should have been just a permanent part of your fox not needing to switch them out (dash, spirit form, spirit jump) should all just have been built in not needing to swap out a rune. Also swapping runes should have some sort of quick menu rather than having to cycle into the menu every time you need to swap one out… gave me Ocarina of Time water temple PTSD lol. Also, a mini map/quick map would be nice.
My only main complaints would be the bosses did feel a bit janky is the best word I can use and could use some more polish and would love bigger more dramatic music during them. Traversal is also slow, could use some more warp points and or make your spirit running not use energy to get around quicker.
Overall, I loved every moment of this game and had to 100% it and the achievements highly recommend! What a huge leap over the first game! I hope we get a third one!

Bug forum seems to be abandoned by the developer.
As my savegame is corrupted I neither can play this game further, nor can I recommend buying it, until it is playable again.

I like the game, I really do. The story line and idea is cool. However there is a few setbacks that make it not so much fun to play. First of all is the map. It's nice an all but there's not a lot to catch the eye, the puzzles aren't clear either. And you spend 90% of the game running around waiting for the Fox to get to it's next destination, it's like sitting in a car for a long drive, it get's really old. The other problem is the boss fights, the first one with the Raven was amazing, I liked the way that battle was done, it was unique and I really enjoyed it. However the Elk, the Ram, and the Wolves are a nightmare to try to beat, all of them having similar to nearly the same fighting tactics they just got steadily harder to even survive and there's no difficulty setting in this game. I glitched in the battle with the Ram and twice in the battle with the Wolves, it was very annoying and these bosses are really hard to get by.
The game is also eerily silent. I think it would be cool to have the scrolls you find read themselves aloud but they are just text.
I like the idea of this game, but is it worth it? No.
