EDITED REVIEW
Yes, I would I recommend trying out the demo (Is there a demo? I don't remember...).
No, I wouldn't recommend buying the game outright in early access before playing the demo and trying to understand the community involvement, behaviors, and commitments required.
No, I wouldn't recommend this game to singletons and couples unless you're fine starting over every time you log in, in case your public base is trolled.
Yes, I would recommend this game for large groups of friends who can work together often to earn and maintain a private server.
Yes, I would recommend this game if you have a friend or invite code to a private server and there's more than just you actively working on it.
No, I wouldn't recommend this game if you don't think you can earn enough karma points 'helping others' (unclear what it means) and fear progress loss.
Yes, I would recommend this game if you enjoy crafting and food mechanics.
No, I wouldn't recommend this game if you are eyeing it as a builder, or if having to source and eat for a majority of gameplay is not your thing.
I am changing my review to Recommend to help out the developer because they are trying hard, but I can't recommend it for all players.
Reasons I can't recommend:
So, the big con is that the temp servers are public and there're trolls who join the public servers when you're away, eat all your food, break all your tools, and let all your animals die without feeding them to replenish the herd (or maybe is even going around killing them, I'm not sure since I never thought to do that). It's really hard to get into a state where you can make progress on the civilization growth quests, so this feels really crummy and it's hard for me to get reinvested in the game after that.
Getting a private server, I'm told, is done by 'helping' other players to earn the karma currency, though I'm not sure what 'helping' means, since I don't see many players online and have thus been largely solo-leveling a temp server. They are also, I'm told, semi-permanent. You have to maintain the server with karma points or the server goes bye bye. So if you're a solo player or a couple, I'm not sure if this game will work out for you. Plenty of singles have joined the temp server and we've worked on things together, but never a point given. I get that servers cost money to maintain, but I'd rather set up a local server if 'helping' by chance means raising players from babies, which I've read may require at least 10 players before it starts happening. I've only seen 1-2 max on temp servers. This is the biggest reason I still can't recommend the game at the moment. I have few steam friends, but organizing 10 people is out of the question for me.
The addition of the sand worms have also made game progression in the Bronze age very difficult for me (there's too many and it's hard to avoid pulling them), so that's making a game that was previously chill yet addictive more salty than I prefer. Some people welcome that sort of challenge. I prefer casual gameplay with avoidable challenge. Esp. gather/crafting/survival games. I can just choose to play hard mode if I want to rage quit.
And it is dangerously addictive. If you're one of those people who stops eating when you play games, I would avoid this one. It will suck you in because there is endless work to do. Your life will expire and you will re-join immediately to finish something you were working on. Repeatedly. Each live lasts 40 minutes, but you just always want to do one more thing.
The building part lacks room for much of the creativity that builders enjoy, and can be done only later in the game + tear down process requires tools, sometimes advanced ones you haven't unlocked before you can build. Collision logic (player vs building as well as animal vs building) and lack of semi-opaque walls is, frankly, annoying.
I also don't think low-level players should be able to join more advanced civilizations on the public servers. I've seen people who've never played join and it's much harder for them to do anything. If you are new, please wait for all the temporary servers to load and be mindful of your experience level. It's going to go better for you if you work on a lower-level civilization (I think it starts in Stone Age) and level yourself up than to jump into a progressed civilization. The people working on the later level servers will be friendlier towards you, too, if you don't start moving their stuff around on them and consuming all their food supplies without restoring them.
I want to like this game. It's a good time-suck for when I need something casual to play solo, but I don't know that it's ever going to be right for someone like me, so I can't recommend it to others who might be like me. If you're not like me, though, maybe you'll like it. Either way, try it for yourself. That's the only way to know. It's not for everyone, and it's not for me, but maybe it'll be fine for you.
Reasons I can recommend:
It's well made and has few critical bugs considering how many different complex ways there are to craft things (mostly just annoyances like the walls not being see-thru on approach and the sand wall not keeping out the worms, or awkward carrying mechanics).
The developer is present and working on it actively. They were very kind to explain some of how private servers are obtained and maintained (though some of it is vague, as in how to earn the karma points).

In Next Life is a beautiful game with gorgeous art and animation and has such a very interesting and replayable game loop! The minimal sound design is great at immersing you in this primitive age as well. I want to add that this game that requires patience and time to learn, but its so rewarding when you get it!
the art, animation, sound design, systems and core gameplay all merge together to make a very replayable, sometimes tense but beautiful and rewarding game! (also it has silly and cute critters hehe :3
i highly recommend In Next Life to all players who want a beautiful and rewarding challenge and if you enjoy rougelike games then i recommend it even more.
shout out to everyone on the dev team! you have made something very special here and i can not wait to see how the game grows. you deserve all the success!

I don't know, to me this game was no fun. I don't want to hurt anyone, but the controls felt uncomfortable, unhandily or/and just not familiar. You might get used to them if you force yourself to use them a hundered times over and over, but I had to refund the game, because I am just not flexible enough to get used to it.
Also I did not see anyone else playing on the same server.

Very fun game of survival, you have to work together with other people to get through the tasks to make progress otherwise it would be very slow. I wish the crafting menu would be a bit easier to work with because it takes me a while to figure out how to craft the different items, and I do hope there comes a wiki page for this game with helpful tips later on.

The game is really good and it appears as if there will be many updates for a long time. It is similar to onehouronelife but it offers more of a survival challenge because animals will chase after you in packs and eat you... Also the baby running animation is so cute. <3 The new update will increase the price however it's still worth it. It will also make the game harder which it seems the game is going in a PVE direction. The devs have said they don't want to have players killing each other which is nice. The issues are theres 3 different servers based on location and theres not a lot of players. I reccomend this game still but it really needs more people.

While it is a fun game to play it is practically dead. All the tribes have no people in it and while playing solo is an option this is supposed to be a game about crafting and building tribes together. I saw that they said to join their discord to communicate with other players about starting a tribe or something similar, but there are people such as myself who cannot use discord, or do not want to. Frankly, I find it upsetting that I have to rely on a social network to play with others in the first place and I hope the developers come up with a way to revive their game so they don't rely on discord for people to play together and have a stable player base. But for right now the game is not worth it. I will check up on it from time to time, but until real progress is made I do not recommend buying this game even if it's on sale.

Logged about 20 hours in the last 2 days since buying. Absolutely wonderful game so far and I am very excited to see where it goes. The main downside at the moment is low player counts, though that's not a fault of the game for being in early access/not well known. With more people, I'm sure I would have progressed farther/faster. But I do enjoy that even as a solo player I was able to keep progressing and building on/learning different mechanics of the game. The skill leveling is absolutely wonderful, I enjoy checking my stats in between every life to see my progress.
I had originally played You Are Hope on mobile but never progressed very far because it was a HUGE learning curve. In Next Life is MUCH more intuitive than YAH and even OHOL. This was the first game in this style where the learning curve didn't completely overwhelm me. It was a process to learn and search this discord for some information but most main features were pretty easy to pick up and understand while still feeling rewarding when you learn or discovere a new mechanic.
The missions for ages are pretty cool, although I do dislike that some things are locked behind progression such as all forms of farming. Locking some things behind ages as you progress could be a good but right now some of it feels very limiting. Also, being able to repeat "easy" quests that re-appear on your list to progress allows you to bypass lengthier and harder to do quests. For example, one age in the stone age you could almost get away with crafting flint knives to get through the entire age. Other than that, I love what the quests and missions DO add to the game. It also gives you a sense of direction and goal to work towards as a group.
All in all, 9/10. Very very excited to see where In Next Life goes!

If you have played "One hour, One Life" but found it too confusing or even just want to play a similar game then this game is for you! The game provides you with a "recipe book" which helps to guide you through want you need to do.
The only issue with this game is its lack of player base, however hopefully this will improve as the game continues to pump out new updates!

I really like the mood of the game, also like the graphics. Try it, you will love it anyway. Better to play with friends, some nice players randomly appeared in my game and we had fun times.
