Gripping from start to finish. The gameplay is *fine* but the art direction and narrative are so strong that you don't notice that the moment to moment play isn't much of a standout. I loved it!

Great story, lovely visuals and a wonderful soundtrack! Also the voice actors did such a great job bringing every scene to life. The "game part" however could have been better. Often you are put into large environments, with multi-layered navigation that takes away from the story. There is so much running and there is quite a lot that could be done to make it a more seemless experience.

A small studio utilizing their stage performance background to do amazing scene composition, camera work, and staging of tableau to tell a story much larger than one would expect them to be able to, and still make it look amazing and feel compelling. A story that is rich in examining resistance by way of every character having different and often evolving relationships with the topic. A story that has given more than I'd have expected and that I'm still chewing on 2 weeks after finishing the game. Outstanding achievement and absolutely deserves the spots its getting on GOTY lists.

This is one of those rare narrative-driven games that lingers in your mind long after you finish it. From the start, I was drawn in by its incredibly well-written story, which constantly kept me on my toes. I thought I had a solid grasp of what was happening early on, but I was very, very wrong, and I loved that. The voice acting is phenomenal, elevating the emotional weight of every moment. Each performance feels deeply considered, making the story even more immersive. The world-building is fascinating, and the way it slowly unravels kept me eager to see what would happen next. That said, I do wish there was more to the gameplay beyond walking and talking. While the traversal "puzzles" involving floating sigils add some variety, they didn’t resonate with me as much. Perhaps I missed some of their symbolic significance, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that the interactivity could have been expanded. And honestly? Playing 1000xRESIST has made the game I’m currently playing (Dragon Age: Veilguard) feel so much worse by comparison. The writing in 1000xRESIST is sharp, layered, and full of surprises, whereas Veilguard... well, let’s just say it doesn’t have nearly the same impact. It really highlights the difference between a game that takes risks with its storytelling and one that plays it safe. Even so, 1000xRESIST delivers a gripping, thought-provoking experience. If you enjoy story-rich games that challenge your expectations and leave you with plenty to think about, this is absolutely worth playing.

You should buy this, yes. Just know you're not getting a game. You're buying a story. That story is a really unflinching look on a handful of themes, told with the medium of video games; the story is the figurative milkshake that brings the boys to your figurative computer yard. Did I say it wasn't a game? I wasn't kidding. There's a light dusting of a puzzle in a few of the game's chapters, but the the interactivity in the game is you walking around a map and talking to various NPCs or other interactables. The greatest challenge in the game is navigating your way through the interior of "The Orchard", the primary setting of the game. I did say it was unflinching. I'd love to tell you about it. But since the story is the whole point, telling you much of anything is just spoilery. I'm streaming this as I play it and I'm glad I schedule only two-hour sessions, because I've appreciated being able to take breaks from it. It's kind of overbearing in places, and I do mean that in a good way. I find it chilling and disturbing and I quip wise on occasion because it's really me easing a bit of the tension. I bought this thing fairly early on, but waited this long to play it. I regret I sat on the purchase, I really do. I'll be keeping on eye on what the developers, Sunset Traveller, does in the future. Links to my streaming are in my profile, because this time, it kinda feels a bit crass.

Every once in a while a game comes out and tries to push the boundaries of video game narrative design further than what has been attempted before. Undertale in 2015, NieR: Automata in 2017, Disco Elysium in 2019 and a few other titles distanced themselves from the rest and even after years of iteration manage to feel unique. In my opinion 1000xRESIST falls within the same category, and will be remembered by those who played it as a reference point for future attempts at experimental narrative design in video games. The tragedy it narrates is a personal, societal, global and universal one. Its characters exude personality despite their homogeneity through perfectly directed voice acting. Its cinematography and score wouldn't feel out of place in a movie. And more than anything, unlike many other Visual Novels, 1000xRESIST always asks itself how its gameplay can go beyond moving the player from a voiceline to another and twists it to fit and enrich the narrative. I would go as far as to say 1000xRESIST could not exist as anything other than a video game, which means it took all the advantages provided by the medium and made them its own. As many masterpieces, it's not a perfect game. Without spoiling much, the mid-game cut from a plotline to another was jarring, at least initially. I also found the final hours to be a bit repetitive in terms of concepts explored, though it fits with the direction of the second half of the experience. Even with these caveats the second half is impressive (especially in certain scenes), while the first half and its gut-punching personal drama is one of the most moving gaming experiences of the past few years on its own. Do yourself a favour and experience this game while knowing as little as possible about its plot, characters and themes. Hekki ALLMO.

Probably one of the most important narrative to be experienced in 2025. Don't come in looking for game play, this is a walking simulator through and through. Putting that aside the emotional weight of the dialogue hits like a dumpster truck, while the theatrical aesthetics, subtle music and surprising voice acting choices brings the whole thing to life.

One of the best sci-fi stories I've ever experienced, in any medium. It constantly juggles a manic mixture of tones, themes, and high concept ideas and makes it look easy. It's simultaneously vast in scope and intimate in its focus. Not a scene is wasted and not one line of beautifully-voiced dialogue is boring. A stunning experience from start to end, albeit a little rough around the edges at times, gameplay-wise. A full-hearted recommendation to anyone who values narrative in games.

Mostly a visual novel with some video game elements, I thought the writing and storytelling was very good with a lot of ideas and themes that i've seen done before in other forms of media many times, however I felt much of what made this game good was how the story was presented and revealed. Despite the low budget showing at times, the game still had some really cool visuals, sound design and solid voice acting. Like most games I feel like I play nowadays, the length could have been cut down and the pacing improved. Just cutting out the filler and tedious exploration sections would have done so much to improve the overall experience. Still a very solid narrative made with a lot of care and attention which I find rare in these types of games. Life is Strange sent me away from "story based games" for a long time but this one has kinda brought me back.
