yeah this is just kinda repetitive. there's only 2 real enemies: melee zombies and gun guys. every map has the same objective: go to a thing, activate it, and stand in a circle until it's done. that's it. they give you a bunch of different weapons, but it doesn't matter since nearly every enemy can be killed by like 1 shot or 1 burst. they give you 3 different magic things you can use, 1 per level you can select: the sword one is the only good one, the blast is like melee range and worse than just shooting them, the blip doesn't even work, it may actually just be a broken teleport/blink that moves you 1 inch forward. the grapple hook used extensively in the trailer is a found item, it has limited uses for some reason, and also it doesn't matter at all because the enemies are boring and the objective is basically at ground level every time. the little bit of story I saw was just things kinda happen, you get a character to show up and they exposition at you and you don't care, it was more boring than the gameplay. the leveling system seemed to not do anything, its effects were not clear aside from making a number go up. I only thing this game might be decent if you wanna blind race a kinda stinky game with a friend and don't want to spend a lot. otherwise it's just kinda boring, although competently made with no bugs

Found the game on Moddb, and Wishlist it immediately. Just bought it like 2 hours ago, and spent some time to play. I do recommend you to try it out since it's cheap as hell. Raw, a bit unpolished in designs, but overalls can be improved. Here is the list i made as a feedback: - Need abilities description on the location choosing tab - Need ability cool down icon in game. HUD preferable - Need the instruction since the gun reload doesn’t save remaining ammo in the magazine which can confuse players - Need mission description and indicator on the mini map, or it’s better to create a compass in the HUD - Optimizing is a bit meh. - Need to make the light circle aka the mission destination circle a bit clearer. It’s a bit too dim in my opinion ( don’t need to take this seriously) - Dash skill is a bit too OP. The distance imo is a bit too far. Make it shorter and maybe add in a grappling hook as a weapon will make the player considering different play style. It’s better if at the same time, you give the dash ability a high tier ability to obtain ( this is another not-to-take-seriously feedback) - If you can, give the player the choice to remap the buttons. Or at least move the crouch into the left Ctrl button. C is fine in slow pace game, but in fast pace, it’s better to put it in Left Ctrl since most player are used to that mapping. - Might as well add free play later in the game. It’s a time-killing game, and it’s pretty fun - Need more enemy types. What I have been wondering was why do zombies explode when they die? (Not-to-take-seriously) - Dash shouldn’t damage the enemy, it should temporarily give the player invincibility. (Not-to-take-seriously) - Charge skill is a bit weird, since you create an orb, and if you are moving, the orb stay right where you release the button, instead of flying ahead. Maybe this is intentionally? I will post it here in case it’s a bug or something.

I've enjoyed what I've played so far. Vacancy Unlimited is made in the Unity engine, and as of day one of launch, is still in a rather primitive state, with a fair amount of placeholder art and missing some sound effects - as expected of an early access title. The soundtrack is enjoyable to listen to, reminds me of Duke Nukem 2 and Wrack. The gameplay has a nice balance of relaxing as you search for weapons and ammo before the frantic hordes come upon you (usually in tight spaces) just before the end of the level. Rounding a corner before being ambushed by several gun-wielding enemies usually means your death, leading these engagements to be the most tense. The core gameplay loop involves: 1. Find chest/crates with random weapon/ammo/health pickups 2. Avoid/kill zombies around the map 3. Find the harder gun-wielding enemies and kill them 4. Find the mini-boss "ravager" enemies that take a lot of hits and deal a lot of damage 5. Find these light shrines on the ground that spawn enemies when used (optional) 6. Activate the main "light monument" that spawns many waves of zombies. Remain in the circle of light around the moment for long enough to end the level Each level took me about 8 minutes each with clearing all enemies and objectives. There's a good assortment of weapons with 3 main ammo types, plus melee weapons. Melee feels a bit too overpowered against the regular enemies (especially after the light monument is activated) as there's no reload and a very quick swing time. Having one high powered, high rate of fire gun for the gun-wielding enemies and an axe for the zombies seemed a good mix. Some of the weapon sound effects are very well done, such as the M1 Garand. If you die on a level, you respawn quickly with the last weapons you were carrying. You can hold a maximum of two weapons at a time. You also get to choose 1 or 3 special abilities, with a separate mana pool tied to its use. The price is fair for how much gameplay there currently is. I'm very looking forward to following the development of Vacancy Unlimited.

I looked at Vacancy Unlimited and thought it looked hilariously awful, but gave it a try nonetheless, mainly due to the overwhelmingly positive user reviews. Sadly, the first impression turned out to be mostly accurate. If you've seen the trailer, you've practically seen the whole game already. It does include an insane amount of weapons, but for the most part fails to make them distinct from one another in any meaningful way. This doesn't stop the game from bombarding you with weapon and ammo drops at every opportunity. And there's no escalation of any kind, meaning that the loot you find doesn't get stronger the further you are in the campaign, which just serves to underline how pointless the huge arsenal is. Besides, weapons are only as good as the enemies you get to use them on, and this is yet another area where this game falters. Enemies essentially come in two flavors: Melee enemies, who, while numerous, pose practically no threat whatsoever and ranged enemies, who aren't much worth talking about either. Level design is incredibly bland and repetitive, wth no sense of flow or structure, just a bunch of blocky buildings thoughtlessly slapped together. The story, finally, is expectedly terrible, with the general aire of a third-grader's free writing assignment. Even by the standards of ultra-low budget FPS Indies, this is a poor showing. Don't waste your time and money on this trash.

Really good fast paced shooter with lots of guns. the guns animations are also well made. gameplay can become repetitive at some point but its still a lot of fun.

Nice little shooter but I would wait for it to leave early access. I think I reached the end of the avaible content, because I have all the achievements and what remain of the map doesn't unlock even tough I leveled a lot, which is a shame considering I wanted to complete the story but even then it's a pretty nice start. Constructive criticism : I think it would be cool if the first level would teach us what the objectives are exactly, because I had to guess a lot.

This is a fun game, but a hard game. You'll find yourself pleasantly challenged and enjoying this fantastic old school/new school blend of FPS. Developer needs to include a damage locator to let us know where the enemy is shooting us or hitting us from though. Without it, the game's difficulty is brutal. I'm eager to see a more refined version of it. I'm also going to check out the dev's earlier work.

The Story is horribly convoluted and I lost my favorite weapon due to a glitch... But like, it's so pure, you know? It feels like I'm playing some dude's vision. It feels like a guy wanted to make a game and did it. The combat is surprisingly fluid, the gunplay is fun, it's got a grappling hook... It's got stuff going for it. Like c'mon. It's $3 off sale, just try it. It's a nice snack.

First things first, do not let the graphics fool you, underneath the Microsoft Paint aesthetic lies a damn good , though short, Retro FPS. The controls are super tight, shooting feels good, movement is fast, and you get a grapple hook. Best $3 I’ve ever spent. While my playthrough only lasted a few hours, it is worth saying that this was not a 100% run. Each level you enter on the map has a set of objectives for you to complete, which isn’t made obvious at first, but once you play a few levels you start to see what you need to 100% a level, involving taking out big enemies, and interacting with glowing parts of the map, before finishing the level, I could have added a couple more hours going back and finishing up levels I missed objectives on. It’s a simple game, has a simple experience system with a simple skill tree. It’s a simple and short game, but 100% worth your time to try out. Also worth noting is the sheer amount of weapons you have to choose from. While you can only carry 2 guns at one time, there is a surprisingly large amount of them, and they all feel good to shoot and sound satisfying, and it’s a joy going into a level never knowing what new toys you’ll find to play with. Only have a couple of complaints, one was a bug we encountered a few times. Relating to the amount of weapons in the game, I always wanted to drop the gun I had to try out a new one, every once in awhile that weapon I dropped would just disappear. Not a big deal since the difficulty isn’t too high, but annoying to give up an awesome gun for a really bad one. Another issue is the UI in regards to the weapon. There is none, you have no idea looking at a gun how much damage it will do or rate of fire, or anything. I’d like more information, because damage numbers are hard to see and hard to get an accurate representation of how much you’re doing overall. Very minor complaints, and overall the game is definitely worth a purchase, just wish there was more.

Vacancy Unlimited is a classic example of why you should never judge an independent game by the cover. However crude its art assets might appear, VU plays tightly, has a surprising interesting setting (which makes me want to check out the other game’s in the dev’s ambitious expanded universe) and a broad selection of weapons and mission objectives to complete. There are rough edges, mostly around the explanation of its game mechanics - I had to replay levels a couple of times to figure out what my objectives were and what they looked like - but after a few introductory stages you settle into a really pleasant groove, and can concentrate simply on levelling up, unlocking skills and sampling a frankly staggering selection of guns. It looks cheap, and at £2 it is cheap. But it’s the best fun I’ve had on that budget. Vacancy Unlimited doesn’t overstretch but it still managed to exceed my expectations. Support a dedicated and experimental dev, pick it up for less than a coffee, and just have a fun 3-4 hours swinging from buildings and flinging bullets at things. You won’t go wrong.
