This is a great game that I can recommend to anyone. Everything is great here, gameplay, art design, plot, characters, etc. I spent many wonderful hours playing Wild. It's hard for me to even say which is better, Wild or Void. I'm waiting for new projects from Blue Manchu!

It's fairly different from Void Bastards, but I'd say it's as a whole it's just as great! It does feel less variable which does make it less likely to run into impossible fights unlike Void, but it does end up being a lot of the same after awhile. In general it's definitely much easier since I was able to finish all of the challenges/hardcore modes, unlike in Void which is harder but also much more of a rougelite

I really loved this! A great follow-up to Void Bastards. The gameplay is great and is as good as Void Bastards. The art direction is incredible and is as good if not better than void bastards. The general gameplay is just plain great. Instead of surviving on a series of ships you are shuffling the different abilities of the bastards that you have available as you progress. At first I was frustrated because of how different it was from Void Bastards but then I really got into the groove. It is extremely well balanced and fun. The different characters are amazing and have much different play styles. It is just so well balanced that I always felt like I had options. I really enjoyed it. The overall story is just as good as Void Bastards. I always felt compelled to move forward. As I said above the art direction is incredible and the graphics are just perfect for what it does. I love this game and will buy whatever this company puts out in the future.

I do feel bad about giving this a negative rating, but really thinking about it honestly, it just baaaarely makes the cut. The art style is great; especially the character designs, which feel straight out of some early 2000's cartoon like BTAS or Ben 10 in the best way possible. there's an intangible perfection to almost all of these characters and i would love to see more art of them. Unfortunately, the gameplay is boring. imagine a level of classic doom that lasts two minutes but without any of the momentum or catharsis. you're given a wide roster of playable characters that you can switch between in an instant, but you can only use two in one mission at a time and besides whatever their weapon does, the only unique mechanic each character has is an ult. it's also a roguelike, but that doesn't really add much and in the main just means that you're playing through the same repetitive levels every time you die - (which, to be fair, won't be happening much anyway.) it's disappointing because these characters, this setting, and this art style are all so good, and have so much potential if applied right. but to me, it doesn't hold up conceptually when the gameplay is as bland as it is. is wild bastards a terrible game? no. is it worth your time or money? ...probably not.

I loved this game, I'm only not recommending based on the price. I paid 11 pounds (around 15 USD, but maybe there will be some upcoming digital tariff, who knows?!) and definitely got my money's worth. The combat system feels great, and there's a constant slew of small but impactful choices which ferry you through short but sweet combat encounters. The math feels spot on here, perfectly balanced (except in my opinion one enemy, but I struggle to believe that may not be my skill issue and not finding an appropriate solution considering how well considered everything else seems to be) in so many ways. Trying out different character combos and strategies feels good. there just doesn't feel like there is enough outside of that to recommend paying almost 30 pounds for it. The linear campaign structure means that when you are done with it, you've completed it and there's very little reason to go back. I played the procedural campaign straight after the campaign and they are essentially identical. I still enjoyed my second playthrough, and now I find my self wanting to play the game more but I think, why? Because I will only encounter all the same situations I have already faced. Those character combo variations and equipment could keep it slightly interesting, but there aren't enough environments, random events, character lines and mutatators. There's just about enough of them all for a playthrough or two, but that's it. For 11 quid, totally worth all that. For 30? Absolutely not. I picked up Ghost of Tsushima for less than that last month, and I'll be playing that every year til I expire. If they add in a post launch update which adds some more reasons to keep coming back, I'd love to change this to a recommend, as there are some amazing fundamentals here.

Annoying and not even close to the same standards as it's predecessor

Dunno if I've been more divided on a game ever. On one hand, the game's super polished, the art style and design are top tier, and the slower paced gunplay is rewarding, especially playing as Judge. But on the other hand, some enemies (the vipers, porcupines, and barrel cannons specifically) feel super cheap, and some of the playable characters (smokey and hopalong, 2 of the 5 characters i I have unlocked rn) just aren't fun to play, but that's just a skill issue on my end. overall, games good, but I wanna like it more than I do. However it might change the more I play.

Generally one of the better roguelike experiences I had with a game. I'm not sure why some have attested to poor balancing in the game when I felt had a dozen tools at my disposal. Keep in mind you have to guide your journeys on the planets you go to with some grace. For instance, some enemies are more vulnerable to specific outlaws in terms of going up against them. There are ways to use the pal system to circumvent the damage that some of the would be hard enemies too. Some outlaws drop armor, some stunt the enemy when you take a flux of damage. The world feels reactive which is refreshing too. Too many games feel like static and we all on a ride and as soon as you notice the smaller hiccups in the details, feels start to come undone and just takes the wind out of your sails. Here a character feel react to another character. Enemies will make snide remarks about the outlaw you're playing. Outlaws will form bonds and rivalries with each other. There's also a good helping of reactive voice lines from the outlaws that make the experience in this game kinetic. I also understand why the price is for what it is. I think its the incredible voice acting that's professionally done that has raised the price and general budget of the game. I'm lucky to get it on sale for 25 dollars and was such a wholesome and fun experience. I wish we got more backstory to some of the characters for I am invested in all the outlaws. I love them all. Great game if you like silly spaghetti westerns. Yet to try the procedural campaign and the challenges mode that offer some more replayability. Might write about that later.

Void Bastards was an addictive rough outline for something greater - and if Wild Bastards is that greater for you, then more power to you? It just definitely wasn't that for me. It's a very "love or hate it" game, and even though I refunded, I'm still considering giving it a second shot. Wild Bastards eschews the first game's stealth and hacking in favor of more drop-in action: not to say it's suddenly Doom, as you can still run from encounters, get the drop on people, and generally play smarter than guns blazing: but it's definitely more focused on encounter setpieces than Void ever was. Most of the "smart play" is now a board game where you have to maneuver around enemies to find hack stations or more loot. Once combat starts, no matter if you take it fast or slow, you're probably going to be guns blazing. My problem was the random chance mechanics: random enemy spawn locations, random chances to drop a character on planet entry and needing to recover them, etc. There's also a severe imbalance of kit strengths: why should I play the guy with an awkward lobbed projectile that inflicts slow burn damage? Does the guy with three high powered bullets really matter if his reload time sucks and my headshots still can't one-shot the 12 small grub-sized mooks running my way? There's a perfectly good dual six-shooter character that doesn't need to stop firing to reload, and she even has an ability that draws all fire away from you, meaning the "tough boss encounter" stood shooting at a hologram like an idiot while I pelted him in the head 30+ times. I really liked what I played, but constant small issues like that just constantly pushed me away from something I wanted to love. Maybe I'll change my mind, because I really wanted to love it. I'll change this review if I decide to give it a second shot and enjoy it more.

I share the same feeling of many. I don't get why this game get so many bad reviews or get Void Bastards' lover (who I am too) disappointed. I can't yet judge the replayability after only 6 hours play (I might reassess my review later), but I'm enjoying the game a great deal. I love Void Bastards and this one, while different, is even better in many aspects. I would even say that it deals with issues that we find in many roguelite games. Just to compare a few improvements to Void Bastards : - not wasting 75% of your time looting or looking for ammunitions , you just focus on dealing with enemies - related with the previous point, your move on the tactical map is far more important and make the game even more lively - for now the behaviour of enemies looks very convincing, various & intelligent - the shooter aspect is far more enjoyable (specificity of weapons which makes them fun to use with a huge learning curve to master as there are many different situations to face) - very different maps that make each showdown very different from one another depending also on the characters you choose for the fight (with a very smart mechanics that prevents your from always using the same setup). As a result showdowns went from clean surgical fight, intense fight, chaos, survival to horror shows. Please give it a try, you could have one of your best game experience.
