This game runs unacceptably bad on Steam deck on minimum settings. I have no idea if there are plans for a switch port, but if so I am worried. Additionally, this game comes out of the gate with an insane degree of crafting and resource management. Not nearly as casual as the first game. I think most fans would find this game to be a significant step in the wrong direction.

Since last year when I've been playing Slime Rancher a lot, and it's been real fun since then! And since I purchased SR2 myself awhile back. I've thought on it for awhile, so I finally gave it a shot to play it my first time since I've been watching my friend's Stream broadcast in Discord, I was so excited to starting the next journey in SR2 and seeing the Conservatory and the rest of the Rainbow island location had me stoked! It's such a beauty to witness! I recommended to those whose looking for a cute family-friendly game to enjoy!
The downside part is that it was so bright in daylight, good thing there was the brightness option to turn the brightness down at least if it works for my eyes being so sensitive. Especially when it's nighttime in the real time, the game gets so bright in the daylight unless you have the lights on in your space. The game is still wonderful, however!

As much as i love this game, i would wait to buy if you are expecting a mostly finished game. Yes its early access, so that makes sense but it seems like updates are taking a while to roll out. A lot of people, myself included want drones! However this game is going a direction I like. Still has that classic slime rancher experience but missing content.

Even tho its been well over 2 years since release I'd very much wait to see v1.0
I really want drills from the first game. Grinding resources by going to lots of specific locations is very tiring. Other than that its very good so far!
Maybe add drones from the first game?
amazing game, although there are still many updates and patches to be done it's quite impressive with it's lore that reels you in.

This game is infinitely better than the first in so many ways!
This game is incredibly colorful and appealing to the eye. There is so many different colors and hues that just stand out and can make you appreciate the landscape. I felt like the first game was pretty bland, especially the ranch being in like a dry desert, it was just really ugly.
As of the time of typing this there is 5 different unique areas in this game:
The Rainbow Fields, very colorful and the starting area that your ranch will be in
The Starlight Strand, similar to the Moss Blanket in the first game in which its a forest area, but this place is really unique in half of the island is bathed in a pink light with pink flora and trees, and the other in blue.
The Ember Valley, a classic lava and volcano island.
The Powderfall Bluffs, A winter/snowy island with aurora light bridges winding around the island.
The Grey Labyrinth, A massive, and I mean MASSIVE area with tons of different areas within it.
All of these areas are beautiful and have lots of treasure pods to find and new slimes to catch.
You can no longer "buy" your upgrades in this game, you have to know go around gathering resources to deposit into your refinery instead of placing a machine down to do it, and then use them to make your upgrades. This goes for pretty much anything you wanna make in this game.
The last thing that makes this game superior to the first is the Weather system they added. They added different types of weather like rainstorms, lighting storms, tornadoes and some others that make the game feel really alive. They can happen at anytime and some resources are only obtainable during these storms, plus the music during the different weather phenomena is absolutely amazing.
This game has been out for a little over 2 years now and has had some major updates adding things, but its still classified as "early access" not sure how much they wanna add until they think its a full game, but with the amount of content in the game as of now I feel like its in a really good spot. I personally haven't experienced too many bugs, the only ones I can recall is when I walked into a area on my ranch, the largo slimes I had in a corral just teleported out of it, and sometimes my boom slimes will explode a bit too hard and knock other slimes in its corral out.
All in all if you enjoyed the first game I highly recommend you get this game. Its 100x more beautiful and a lot more emersive than the first, although I will miss the glass desert :(

I loved the first slime rancher game and when I heard there was a second I could not wait another second. Everything about this game is very cute and very cool, when ever your money goes up you get that feeling of feeling rich with each plort you sell. 10/10 game, highly recommend if you ADHD like me :)

One of the most beautifull games I've ever played. I love the Solarium.
The new slimes are cute with their new emotions and behaviours, the atmosphere is a lot better with the new weather system and the messages between ranchers. Tho I do miss Beas significant others letters.
The slimes tend to swarm any area to an absurd degree, and Breeu epidemics are way too common, tho that does tie in with the new and improved building mechanics and gives water cannons a bigger use.
Collecting stuff in the overworld is 100% superior to farming it in those slow ass machines, and the progression is a lot simpler and direct to the point, love it.

I don't hate the game, it's just not as fun as the first.
Science is forced at you here where it was optional and off to the side in SR1, upgrades minus the treasure cracker only requiring newbucks. Gathering resources isn't fun and more of a chore compared to just setting up drills and then checking up on them every once in a while. Makes getting upgrades a pain.

It's decent but has lots of problems.
Good:
-Soundtrack is well composed and sounds excellent
-Map is large and expansive
-System requirements are light, game will run below minimum spec (I have tested personally)
-Game is mostly well polished in terms of UI and graphics with only a few flaws.
Bad:
-Lot's of grinding and resource gathering doesn't always feel consistent
-Some content isn't easy to figure out
-Game is too expensive for what's given, I recommend it only if it's on sale for at least 33% off. I'm likely to remove this as more content is added to make it actually worth $29.99.
-Game is too easy after health upgrades, you'd have to be braindead to die to anything unintentionally even with damage set to maximum
Some suggestions for gameplay:
-More consistent ways of resource gathering, such as drills like in Slime Rancher 1 and make resources area specific, maybe a hybrid approach would work where you'd find resources and a drill would provide a ton of the resource but over time. Or potentially ways to scan for items using the map or a new upgrade.
-More enemies/hazards should be added and a difficulty slider to make the game actually feel like a challenge. Existing Tarr and damage settings could be linked to this.
-Add more consistent guidance throughout the game on how to progress
-Add ability to make waypoints on the map to allow players to mark important areas
-More slimes need to be added. Slimes that are based on elements is an idea I came up with, similar to Pokemon. And also more rare slimes, potentially spawned by scripted events or just extremely low chance or specific situations.
-Less focus on decorations/non-essentials and more on story/gameplay. Not everyone cares for cosmetic features, you already have more than enough especially in the latest versions of the game.
-Add underwater gameplay and more water based features. For a game where a significant portion of the map is water, the Slime Sea isn't much more than a trash can for Tarrs or items you don't need.
Technical things:
-Add higher LOD settings, distance detail is far too low even at max settings and it's obvious.
-Add MSAA back, Slime Rancher 1's 8X MSAA clearly looked better and it's easy to add to this type of game engine and graphics API. Please do not go towards the current trend of bad AA tech and upscaling like TAA, FSR, DLAA etc. which all look terrible.
-Game still stutters even on the strongest of PCs, and even worse on low end systems. Although this has gotten much better since launch.
I've played the Slime Rancher franchise since January or February 2016, not long after the game first came out in early access. I love this franchise so it's hard for me to say bad stuff about it but I don't like the direction some things are going in.
TLDR:
-Game has lots of good aspects but is currently a bad value at full price. Worth getting if on sale.
-Difficulty is not consistent between different aspects of the game.
-Technical aspects like performance and bugs are not major issues.
