First, there are good reasons you might not like this game. Mainly the NES-era graphics and sound (especially relative to the price) along with the total absence of any lore, story or campaign. In that sense it does feel a bit 'unfinished'.
But the game-play is amazing. The mechanics are interesting and well-tuned. The army size limits prevent 'stack of doom' from being the only viable strategy. The infirmary mechanics mean sometimes taking risks is worth it, since it's a lost battle isn't game over. I think it's just an incredibly well-done fantasy 4x.
