It's nice to get a narrative followup to Loren. No complaints over here, wanted more Loren Amazon Princess and got very much that.

This game is considered downgrade from loren the amazon princess in many way. Here what ruin my enjoyment the most. -Character portrayal looks inconsistent to each other. -Companions and story overall suffering from force woke agenda. -They/them ugly woke character, Come with woke agenda lesson in my face. -Woke agenda demon races (or every races) is not inherently evil. I hope upcoming game will tone down it woke agenda and focus more on good story. Deception and paranoid is my cup of tea, Hope for more in upcoming game.

A shorter and rougher game than its predecessor, but I went in expecting that, so I wasn't disappointed. Ultimately, it still managed to get me invested in its rich characters and excellent story, I was very happy to return to the setting of Aravorn after all this time. I was actually quite pleasantly surprised by how well it continued on from the previous game, and how long it ultimately was. There were numerous points where I expected to finish, only for the story to continue on. I'm really looking forward to the next three games that are planned, whenever they might be coming out.

Played the Beta,, so can say about it.. It is advised you play Loren first so that you know some of the people involved and also you can make a choice as to if your in a romance with Characters from Loren or are free so you can romance Lydia or Nathir. It is a pretty good game with some added options to build rep with people and a slightly different way for rep building for another area of the VN. You can even choose to just do the VN mode so that you avoid fighting. Loren is the 1st VN and this is Number 2,, there will be 3 more in this line (These are in a multi Universe type thing, thats why you can choose a different romance each time). You can replay as may times as you like to. Please enjoy, just as I did. ps; Joe's review is incorrect,, There is NO Woke Agenda,, it just has One Non-Binary Character, That is All. End Of.

(Id like to start this by saying I don't close my steam games...) A successful continuing of Elenor/Saren's story it is, but a proper successor to Loren it is not. TOA uses Loren The Amazon Princess as a crutch—incorporating characters and locations from the original game without the things that made Loren so beloved. As someone who romances Loren everytime I play the original game, it is strange to not have her here, especially as she is the MC's best friend. The most beloved characters of Loren: Loren, Draco, Chambara, Dora, and Ramas are all gone, leaving us with what I considered the B characters of Myrth, Rei, and the wizard who seemed to be a very different art style that the other characters. The plot was fine, the enemies were meh and I found the fighting abilities of the characters (mainly Lydia) very frustrating. Elenor didn't have much consistency in her character as it didn't matter who you romanced, she flirted with all. Gruff was the only character I really connected with but they were a pretty non important character. Loren did something I think Winter Wolves struggles with, very well. It perfectly walked the line between action, rpg, and romance. The relationship between Loren and Elenor was so well written but Elenor and Lydia falls very flat for me, weather because she flirts with the other characters or because their love has little stake. Overall I was just disappointed with this game and wish WW would let Loren rest and make more RPGs not set in the same world.

Put simply: I love it! I've played virtually all of Winter Wolves games, and I'm familiar with the world this game is set in. It is less complex than 'Loren: Amazon Princess' but honestly the combat, inventory, potions etc.. side of things was never the big draw for me (they're still there, just not quite as complex). (And I understand that games like Loren are big and require a LOT of time and resources, and that's often not financially viable for the devs). I love the 'political intrigue' spin for this story, it mad a refreshing change from Loren's 'Heroes off to save the world' story and 'Seasons of the wolf' escape from slavery and journey home (both were good, it's just nice to have some variety). It took me a little while to get back into the characters, some areas of the writing initially felt a bit stilted, but as the game progressed I saw more and more moments of character development and story. It was wonderful to be able to jump back into a previous romance (though you can chose not to), I loved the continuity. The mix of new and established characters was fantastic. Characters I knew I could trust with my life, and characters I wasn't yet certain of. I thoroughly recommend the game!

A worthy new chapter of Saren/Elenor story where we'll get to know deeper old characters and make new friends or lovers. The cast is full of memorable people, precios friends like Gruff, powerful leaders like Lydia and even a non-playable one that many would fall in love with. Story has both great moments and some far from it. Also it ends on quite the cliphhanger with the great upcoming changes to the world of Aravorn, which is understandable as this is first of the four planned sequels to Loren the Amazon Priencess. RPG is enjoyable, progression is rewarding (unlike it was the Cursed Lands), alchemy and equipment upgrades give more options to work on builds. Still wish games of Aravorn searies had some kind of NG+ mod to keep the progress for faster second runs without going into full VN mode. And remember: there is good in evil, but just in case - bring fire mage with you.

if the first loren game was akin to dragon age origins, then an elven marriage is more akin to dragon age two, for better or for worse. perhaps playing LTAP right before jumping into this one set my expectations too high, as i expected the same sort of quality from this one. i liked the concept; a VN with rpg elements, holy shit what a good concept, what a great way to move the medium forward! but AEM didnt really do that, and id argue it sort of went backwards in execution. the UI is somehow...slightly worse than LTAP. it was clunky, big, messy-- but it still worked. everything i need was great and easily visible. resistances made sense and easily legible. "critical", "weak", simple words that instantly told you how to tackle enemies. in AEM, it's percentages, which even after reading the tooltip, made it near impossible to know what was effective against an enemy and what wasnt. i liked the tactical thinking i did in the first game, where here i was pretty much choosing which skill did the biggest number. the UI itself is slightly uglier and chunkier than previous games, and i dont know if its due to the constraint of the engine theyre using or what, but nothing looks particularly sharp, it's all got a slight blur to it (im playing on a 24in monitor), which is also annoying in combat. LTAP had this too, to a lesser extent i feel. the ui being a mess is more obvious in the inventory and shopping screen. important buttons like purchasing, selling, unequipping are small as hell, and navigating it is a pain. maybe if i could make the UI smaller instead of having it scream in my face it would be better? i dunno, overall it's just very loud and in your face. it's not as busy or ornate as LTAP, which i appreciate, but it's still very difficult to navigate. on that note, there's also a wild level of art inconsistencies that personally take me out of the game at times. gruff's sprite not being as detailed as the rest of the team, apolimesho using his old sprite despite how critical he is to the story, NPCs with sprites that are just plain sloppy looking and not as detailed as everyone else, myrth's sprites not being cleaned or properly finished...the list goes on, but it just doesn't look good all together. i liked the old style that looked almost comic booky and the stark, black shadows were really unique. it's really obvious when certain npcs stand next to each other in a scene. did the devs just run out of money, did they use two different sprite artists, or what? it just makes the game look incomplete; i understand you dont want to put time into trash mobs or one off npcs, but even LTAP gave all the sprites the same work, even if they did color palette swaps or w/e. it made everything whole, and consistent. i know art is subjective to the viewer, but at the price (though slightly lower than LTAP at full price), i would expect a certain degree more "consistency". hell
ashtran shows up and his sprite is just his head from LTAP slapped onto the body of a sprite that gets reused for the ugliest motherfucker of a boss ive ever seen. bruh.
my last VN before LTAP was hatoful boyfriend, so maybe art inconsistencies are to be expected, but lord it was distracting, and i couldnt help notice it once it kept coming up. anyway, the story itself was...okay. just okay. i appreciate it being far more grounded than LTAP, it felt more like a set up for the Big Bad Evil in a future installment than of a direct sequel, and that's probably their intention. i found myself laughing and going "what the fuck thats so stupid" or just going "WHAT??" often near the end, like if they just ran out of ideas and were just pulling drama out of nowhere. there wasn't any set up to (MAJOR SPOILER)
nathir summoning his deus ex machina of a god to help revive elenor after she gets her soul sucked by jul. HUH? and then ANOTHER GOD shows up to claim elenors soul, and then nathir has to do a challenge to get it back. i know nathirs faith is strong but there was NO lead up to this; nothing that said his faith was so otherworldly it would summon a literal god to his help.
and i think that's really my biggest issue with the overall narrative: a lot of character actions are so inconsistent. this felt immediately obvious playing as an elenor who was continuing a romance with rei; the way elenor acted with him, to others, and in the story felt like it was written by varying writers. the way an elenor would flirt and act interested to lydia and nadir despite being in a supposed romance with rei, to the way she would be weirdly callous in dialogue...it didnt feel like the elenor from the previous game. if the game was trying to show that elenor came out of her shell after being a slave to loren, it was doing a poor job at it. elenor in LTAP felt more humble and helpful, the friendly disposition i chose for her made her incredibly more sensible and kind to those around her. this elenor felt...rude, callous. again, maybe this is how she truly is as she's no longer a slave who feels indebted to the amazons, but the discrepancy is wild. there were really some words that elenor was saying that i felt like i was playing like a violently different character. and ultimately, as she was my vehicle during this whole story, i didnt feel like she was getting the kind of character development she deserved. side note: the quest log still sucks. again, im guessing this cause of engine restraints, but we couldnt have a better quest tracker? something to let me know what i have to do and where to go, instead of just saying the text of the initial quest screen? it sounds dumb to complain, but with how much text is vomited at you i feel like i just forgot what i was doing, and the lack of summary of what i did is not helping, and i had to reload a few times to redo what i did. anyway, the romance itself was a wild ride. like i mentioned before, this elenor didn't feel like the same in LTAP, and really, so did rei. he wasn't as "gentlemanly" as i would expect, but at the very least it was obvious that he cared for elenor. i didn't feel like the progression for this romance was as fun as previous, and again, a lot of the conversations they had together made me go fucking insane with how out of left field it was. (spoiler for tail end of the romance)
elenor suddenly blowing up on rei for mentioning he used to be a better shot before he met her? girl, let him SPEAK instead of getting mad for no reason. why are you so weirdly petty?
. it didn't feel fulfilling, and i imagine the new romances are probably more developed cause they're brand new, but still...i did like at least that their romance was mentioned throughout the game and others would comment on it, but good lord they needed to get a room at times and not be horny freaks.. so, based on this review it sounds like i hated my time with the game, but honestly, i didn't it. again, it was a passable game at the very least, but there were so many small things that make me hesitant to recommend it unless you really, really like the series. there was a game breaking bug i ran into where one of rei's skills would completely crash the game and there was a 50/50 shot i could ignore the message, or just have the game crash and id have to leave rei out of a fight as a result. the over all lack of polish on sprites, the occasional misspelling, or just wild mis-characterization of a character in a scene that would make me wonder what the hell they were on about. but i did like things. but the overall package, as it stands, needs significant polish. if youre a huge fan of LTAP, it might be worth going through. if you're new, i recommend picking up LTAP on sale and wait for a few more spit shines to this game; i think it can be something good, but maybe i just had high hopes, and a too critical lens to overlook the things i hated. it had its good moments i assure you, but i think it needed more time to bake.
