Graphics look bad on my monitor (5120x1440). The game max resolution is 1536 x something really low. If you have a 4k monitor you will have the same problem as me. The video above looks great but not in my monitor.

Totally agree with Doombox's game review on 30 Jan 2025. Pros: - Good design. Cons: - Bugs and glitches. I retried the game myself today and spotted 2 bugs just on the menu, character selection still gets wacky at times and I can't go back to the main menu by pressing back. - No depth.

I had no idea this game existed until two minutes before I bought it, after seeing that gameplay I had to get it. A delightful call back to the racing games of old

A love letter to classic racers! Calling back to games like Sega Rally, F-Zero, 3-D Hot Rally and Power Drift. Loads of charm and lots of fun. What Dusk and Ion Fury did paying tribute to Doom, Quake & Duke 3D, VHR will be to the arcade racer.

For what it offers, it's acceptably polished. But it doesn't have much else. There's no online, only splitscreen, even though the multiplayer icon shows a globe which suggests online functionality. Some of the greatest controls in an arcade racer, locked behind a singleplayer game with ok AI. The AI still feels better than some recent AAA games, but not that incredible. It's locked at 60fps. The start of the campaign can feel very easy for experienced players, and it takes a long time for it to turn into a real challenge. Great visuals and music btw. If you don't mind a polished yet incomplete experience, go ahead.

Ooooo This is a good one. It encapsulates what I want in a racing game. It’s fast, there’s sweet drifts, crazy corners, all along a really bouncin’ OST, that makes you feel like you’re at the beach or flying down the mountains in Initial D. Ya it’s buggy, but it’s the good kind of bugs. I loved all the crazy stuff that happens off track. Great colors and controls round it out. It’s really hard, and you better be ready for that, Lucy was no walk in the park! Wish split screen showed the stats of the cars. Wish there was something anything online, there’s not even leader-boards. Some more consideration on where you spawn when you die. Maybe a mini-map maybe for mutli? But I had a blast! If you like MK64 with no items, or F-zero, Top Gear 3000? Check it out.

This is the most fun I've had with a racing game in a long time. I don't usually play racing games (more of an action adventure RPG type of guy) but this one had me hooked. I am three Grand Prixs (16 races) away from unlocking all the achievements. I remember way back when this game was just a prototype and was surprised to see it on the Steam store (I didn't know it was intended to be a full release) but I'm glad I decided to check it out. Check this one out because it won't disappoint.
RUNNING IN THE 90'S
Do you ever get that one game where you ask yourself why is this game not getting more attention? To me, that’s Victory Heat Rally (VHR). I first heard of this game while going through Twitter and was intrigued by its art style. I then found out it was on Steam, saw some of its gameplay and I was immediately hooked by it. Like I fell in love with playing the game, so much that I got all the achievements
Pros and Cons
Pros

Very fun gameplay that is easy to pick up and play
12 different characters for you to play as, each with their own unique stats
Really nice upbeat soundtrack
Beautiful retro arcade racing-style graphics
Cons

The gameplay can get repetitive after a while

Gameplay
VHR is an arcade-styled racing game where you race against 11 other racers, which is very easy to pick up and play. This is very nice for those who just want an easy arcade-style racing game for you to go and play. For those looking for an arcade game with some minor challenge, then this game has that too. I feel that this is a game that can appeal to almost anyone who is looking for a casual fun racing game. Unless you are looking for a racing game with some challenge, then VHR won’t really be the racing game for you, as the game as a whole isn’t really that hard. You can race on various tracks; some will be long and have three laps, and some will be smaller but have four or five laps, then there is rally racing, although it’s not a proper rally race. You will sometimes lap other racers, but you can crash into their cars to knock them off the track for a bit, the game encourages you to do this as there are three achievements to it. There are three main game modes for you to play, these are Arcade GP, Championship mode, and time trails mode. When your car is drifting you can build up this meter, when you let go you will be giving a burst of speed. The boost meter has three levels to it, so the longer you hold it down, the more boost you get to help you get ahead of other racers. The boost meter speed is dependent on the weight of the car you are driving, while the speed of your boost is dependent on your power. Although weight is also dependent on how far you push other racers. Speed will affect your top speed when boosting is not in effect, acceleration is how fast you get to your top speed and handling affects how sharp you can make your turns. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3420474844 There are 12 different racers for you to choose from and each has their stats that are unique to them. However, you can tweak them by having different gear or tires for them that can raise or lower a certain state depending on which one you have on you. My favorite character to play is Tommy because I could make his speed, and acceleration good, with some nice handling. Although all racers are viable in their ways with the right stats, you just have to go out of your way to experiment on them. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3420474219 You start with three racers but to unlock more you will have to beat them in a race to unlock them in championship mode. In this mode, you and the rival racer will have a health bar and if you are a certain distance from them, it will deplete. If you or the rival racer are a certain distance away from each other, the health bar will deplete faster. The game does have some to do with it. There are also some minigames that you can play in championship mode. However, other than that, the gameplay can get rather repetitive. Even when I got all the achievements, there was nothing really left to do in the game.
Graphics and Performance
VHR's art style has an arcade-like feel that I liked very much. The areas all felt different, but they were all colorful. I tested the game on an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB, AMD Ryzen 5 1500X Quad-Core Processor 3.50, and 16 GB of RAM. I experienced no issues while playing, and the game should be able to run on almost any computer. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3420476264
Final Verdict
I have to honestly say that VHR is a very nice racing game that I had a ton of fun with. I highly recommend this game for those who either want to play an arcade-like racing game or for those who just want a casual game to play. There is also local multiplayer so you can play with a friend and remote play is also available as well. That being said though, I would maybe get this game on a sale if you are a bit skeptical.
You may have bested me fair and square but Skyknighter's Sleepless Nights is numero uno
This games has some nice style and feels like a racing game from the late 90s/Early 2000s aesthetic. I love the music and design style of the entire world this takes place in. In short bursts of playing it can be quite fun. That being said however the game does not feel like it took eight years to develop. There's some noticeable bugs and glitches abound. The art design on the vehicles look cute like a choro-Q car, but they have very few frames of animation. And a lot of the vehicle sprites are just slightly edited into other cars - which makes their whole presentation look very cheap. The tracks get a bit on the repetitive side and many of them don't have any real standout features. Gameplay is easy to pick up and play but there isn't any real depth to it all. I do hope there'll be more updates to fix some of the games problems, but as it stands I wouldn't recommend this game at full price. Wait until it goes on sale.
