One can see the graphics on the store page. The game is what it is. If you can tell by the store page that the graphic are not going to cut it, obviously don't buy it. The game is pretty inexpensive. I bought it on sale, but I think the normal price is $20. I don't think you are going to go wrong with this one. I've played Stranded Deep to the extreme and Raft (which I never got into). But I like the Island Hopping genre, and this little pirate adventure fits in nicely.
There is a lot going on in this game. And it's pretty cool. I'm pleasantly surprised.
First of all, the navigation system takes a minute to get, but once you get it, it's pretty cool. Bad weather does make it rough, but if you have a trusty compass and sextant, you're good to go.
Caves are where much of the fighting takes place. It's fairly rudimentary, but you definitely can get your tail handed to you if not careful.
There is a hunting element, which is actually good. Not great, but good.
I keep finding out new features that I didn't know about, and I really like that I am being rewarded for playing this game.
Yeah, there is a level of jinkyness that is kind of silly. I have yet to find a harbor. So, you basically drive your ship/raft on to shore and then have to push off when you want to sail again. But, if the game were not good, I would be less forgiving.
I already explained the graphics. If you can get past that, there is a little gem here. Check it out.
Edit @ 84 hours deep. I really like this game.
Tips: Use higher ground to your advantage.
Use all the tools available (i.e. throwing knves, bombs).
The food buffs do help, so use them.
The puzzles can be easy, but not always.
Relax and enjoy the ride.
It gets very interesting later in the game.

What I like:
Lots of exploration with new islands and quests
Fun atmosphere, not too serious
Keep coming back for more every day
Lots of little quests and factions to check out
Always finding something new each time I play
Best fun I've had in a long time with a game
What I don't like:
Can't play with friends yet
Doesn't feel very piratey- can I actually rob people?
Feel likes its missing naval combat with pirates, rather than just on islands
Can't tell when food is about to spoil
Interface sometimes clunky
I love the game and bought a copy for my wife. We are hoping co op arrives soon.

looks and plays like a roblox map. And still it somehow drops to <30 on steam deck in villages... cringe.

I jumped in on the latest update after years of owning the game to see how far its come. It seems good so far, only 10 or 20 minutes really to check it out. The combat is simplistic, but fine. It ran well enough and the tutorial was a charming little jaunt. The world after that point became odd. Entering a town and hearing all this background noise of people talking while lifeless characters stand still is jarring. Lol I heard people clinking their cups and cheering at the bar with nobody in the seats. I heard seagulls overhead, but there weren't any there. I think adding some life to the game would be great. With some attention to details and polish I think this could become an open world, procedural generated wind waker. Which would be a 10/10 in my book. Obviously its in early access, but for the full release I think the little details are the most important. Especially for a procedurally generated game you've got to make sure your content isn't shallow because its going to be repeating a lot of it haha

The game leans into cartoonish/fantasy more than realism with a lot of simplified mechanics and graphics. It uses procgen and runs slightly better than other indie Sailing games. I think it's a perfect game for kids, comparable to Minecraft. Although I prefer more grimy and lonelier atmosphere, hassle-free sailing in vast ocean can still give the same tranquillity.

I see enough comments of people stating “it doesn’t need naval combat” “cannons aren’t necessary go play a different game.”
You’re all wrong. It’s a pirate game. It should have those things.

I never knew how much I wanted a high-seas open-world RPG. The amount of content available right now is already staggering, from treasure hunts, crafting, ship decoration, secrets, and an infinitely huge world, you'll be immersed for a long, long time.
Also I'm not dealing with bugs and glitches every five minutes.
Bethesda should be embarrassed.
