Phew... where do I start? The game does do some things right. The atmosphere is solid, the presentation works, and the story is interesting —at least for the first two acts. Played it in co-op, and the last third of the game was simply not good. Waaaaay too often, my part was completely skipped just because my co-op partner triggered something. That meant we missed important information, and the "group" made decisions that we had no clue about. And in a game where it is all about the characters and the story... just no! Then character deaths: Deaths that make no sense or can only be avoided if you've already played through it once. Or there are moments where characters act strangely—or worse, don’t act at all. Maybe this ones on me but the controls feel "clunkier" than in the previous games. There were also sync issues between co-op players, flashlights that where not visible for my co-op partner, NPCs randomly blocking the way, and those painfully long, unskippable climbing and crawling animations. Why? It just drags everything out... Got the game for under 15 bucks, and honestly, it wouldn’t have been worth more even at launch.

Just finished my second playthrough with the curators cut this time. It is buggy af, but overall a good experience. SAW like traps, with a Jason Vorhees type antagonist. There wasn't any character that I found unlikable. The brash characters still had a good story to tell. A great conclusion to this "season"

This game was okay until the last 20 mins or so. My friend and I weren't able to complete the escape because they would get the black loading screen and wouldn't be able to see anything that I was doing. Because of this when it came time for them to have a trigger the game would then freeze on my end showing Mike's shoulder and the water. The fact that this is the second game this has happened to us that we've played from this company it is really annoying and disheartening cause it's one of the games my friend and I enjoy playing together. Going forward I will now think more carefully about buying games from them since 2 of their's I haven't been able to finish. My advice is not to waste 40 dollars or any money on this game until the bug is fixed at the end. Being over 2 years you would think it would be fixed by now.

the setting of this entry is honestly really cool, which is why its a shame that it was wasted on some weird mystical fella - i expected them to be up against a jigsaw-type character, and while there's definitely a few interesting traps around the location, it doesn't really feel like the antagonist has much of a connection to them at all, other than operating in the same area - maybe i'm wrong on that, but this felt a little mismatched. really not sure how i feel about it!

Still buggy, I figured it would've been updated/fixed. Story was fun, gameplay was decent, ending was kind of predictable and mid. Jumpscares are pretty solid, spooked me a couples times compared to my partner who got scared every time. Finished the gameplay in about 7 hours, pretty quick and we were exploring too. 6.8/10 If you got the money or if it is on sale, go for it otherwise play until dawn or wait for the directive 8020!

The Devil in Me is a Horror-Adventure game, where you unveil the mysterious story behind a murderous hotel. I don't know what happened there. Maybe they run out of time, money, or they just could figure out what they want to do. The overall quality of the game is bad. I was at first really mad because of this. But it is so bad that it actually starts to become comical This was also one of the few reasons I finished the game, because I wanted to see how shitty it could get. Spoiler, really shitty The story is okayish, the worst and most boring of the anthology The horror parts are okay. The atmosphere isn't as good as his predecessors. And the characters are mostly not likable If you really want to play it, wait for a sale. You shouldn't pay more than 10 bucks for it! Playtime: ~ 9.5 hours Overall: 3 out of 10

Would I call this a bad game? Not in particular, no. Would I say it's a good game, though? Also, not particularly. I'd say solid 6.5 out of 10, maybe 7 on a good day. I'll start with the bad, just because honestly, if you like slower horror/thriller games, I'd say it's worth playing at some point. First things first, the movement mechanics are pretty janky. If you're just walking it's not too terrible, but once you start sprinting the controls start acting a little strange, as if sometimes you're trying to dodge an invisible corner instead of simply turning. There was definitely a few moments I got screwed out of a QTE (quick time event) where you have to hide because the character went in the wrong direction, and it's a little frustrating when you can literally watch it happen but can do nothing about it. Secondly, don't even bother trying to pass other NPCs if you're in any form of confined space. It feels like in this game there's an invisible barrier around you that will stops you like a foot away from any walls or people, and if, say, you're in a room and want to pass through a door way, NPC who's with you is standing in the doorway & it looks like plenty of room to pass on either side. There most definitely isn't enough room, and thanks to those broken movement mechanics, you WILL BOTH be wedged in there. A few times in the first two acts I ended up reloading from the main menu because neither of us could move at all. Third, yes, the faces can be quite emotionless at times. I personally find it pretty odd, because it feels exclusive to certain characters. There's a couple of them that it feels like you can see so much in their features and it's a captivating scene to watch, while others fall so painfully flat I hated a few of them. There are these little puzzles in the game that I'd honestly recommend looking up how to properly do (not just outright the answer of course) but they weren't explained well at all in the game which felt a bit unfair. Those are honestly my only complaints, and there's definitely positives to it as well. I played the easiest difficulty for my first playthrough because I wanted to enjoy it, not be stressed about saving everyone so it was definitely more forgiving through the game. I'd messed up on two "keep calm" events and three QTEs but they weren't major ones and had no real repercussions thankfully, managed to save all the survivors. There's a couple in the beginning you can't do anything to save, so don't stress when it happens. There's also one more "person" you can't save, either. This game definitely focuses not only on your overall decisions but also your relationships with each other as the story progresses. Some events are altered if you're in bad standing with your group, and vice versa. I personally enjoy it simply because it really makes you think about the impact of literally EVERYTHING you say and do. You cannot reload easily from the menu so if you mess up & autosave hits, you're screwed. It definitely feels reminiscent of Saw, as the killer forces you into a variety of traps and you find ways to survive while you're trying to figure out who the mastermind is. (You guys do figure out who it is really early into the game, and I'm pretty sure someone even guesses it right in the first act) so most of the game is ultimately just everyone trying to survive & escape. Honestly, I did have a lot of fun playing this game. The jump scares got me a few times, story was decent, gameplay mechanics can be a struggle at times and there would definitely be some buffering moments, so frankly, it's worth playing, but maybe not at it's current $40 pricetag. I beat it in a single day so it's not a very long game, which isn't much of a complaint, but it unfortunately just runs a little too buggy to cost more than, I'd say, $20-$25. It's still a really good and enjoyable game, but I feel like it should run more smoothly or at least have slightly better running mechanics for $40 because it was honestly rough at a few moments.

⏳ Time to complete: 11 hours 🏆 Achievements unlocked: 11/30 📜 Guides used: No ⚖️ Difficulty: Not applicable 🔹 Strengths: + Part of a legendary cinematic horror franchise. 🔻 Weaknesses: - Uninteresting characters with zero emotional depth. - Weakly told story that pales in comparison to other entries. - A ridiculous amount of illogical and outright dumb situations, especially regarding the killer’s actions. - Extremely sluggish controls and animations—walking across a beam takes ages, killing any sense of tension. - QTEs are way too easy, removing any real challenge. 🐞 Bugs & Issues: Lost a character due to a bug: the game didn’t show which button to press during a crucial QTE at the very end, leading to a stupid death. 💬 Review: Easily the weakest entry in The Dark Pictures Anthology. The story is bland, the characters are forgettable, and the pacing is outright frustrating. If you’re looking for a good interactive horror experience, play House of Ashes or Man of Medan instead. Only worth picking up on sale if you’re desperate for something to play. Otherwise, skipping this one won’t cost you anything. Recommended? ❌

The QTE events just ruined it for me completely. With mouse and keyboard it was not working at all, but after switching to 1-key input, it worked pretty well. Except one that didn't register and that was another death on my hand. The camera movement was also iffy at times, which just brought frustration, instead of excitement. Just not being able to turn back to where i was previously facing. It took a long time before i finally decided to start playing this one. Maybe my spider-senses were tingling and warning me. Unfortunately i just didn't enjoy it much. I think "little hope" was even better than this one. This is, also, why i can't give honest feedback about the story, characters, visuals, cutscenes, etc. I'm just too influenced by the frustration.

Gameplay needs updation badly. The stiff and bad camera movements, everything being a key press scenario, the eyes just moving about everywhere in the room The things just annoyed the hell out of this to enjoy the story On the plus side, voice actors were definitely on the mark and scene was set. It was back to being horror driven from the last one so that was also a good thing. I would still recommend this but with a lot of BUTs.
