pros:
* cute art, finishing move animation, silly dialog / concept (would make for a decent manga/anime/fan art)
* quite challenging
* good value: probably 5-10 hours playtime
* in most mob levels: can use the shield liberally to avoid highly mechanical fights
cons/things to fix:
* almost too easy to hate on the game due to difficulty. this could be 300% better with difficulty per level with an easy/medium/hard achievement per boss. pretty much a few stars in the ui and some config scaling per boss. also adding respawn to the boss's last mob chamber.
* game rewards patience, maybe to a fault (waiting for parts of the level to change is boring, maybe add idle animations)
* gold system could be removed / simplified. i would rather use gold for cosmetics/music/etc and keep the important parts of the game (like bag/ potions / sword upgrade) in a well defined path.
* difficulty in a weird spot: i struggled with the first boss as i ran out of mana on the shield. a bit of a weird place to learn
that your shield has mana. not "hard" per-say but requires some patience
* imo, could use coyote jumping. something just doesn't feel quite right with the jumping. you can adjust but this was my first thought
* weird hit boxes: can be visually over enemies but hit box is in front of the char
* can respawn over the vertical plants
* shield on y is weird, at least you can re map it
* when forest boss spawns a nymph, you can be shielded and take damage if you are on top of the nymph
* could use character sprite portrait during the shop dialog, most of the other dialog is fine, though it would help
* some of the foreground/background tiles could have more contrast
* should have "hold a" above all jump pads. wasn't sure how to use them initially
