I'd like to give this a thumbs in the middle, but as it's not an option I am erring on the side of thumbs up for the overall reason that the gameplay loop of this game is actually quite fun for me. It's simple, easy to learn, but the challenge seems to ramp up. I don't have much time clocked on this one yet and will update my review when I have more experience and thus more to discuss. What compelled me to post one so early was to give some thoughts to those considering this game... as there's scant little info to be found on the web as far as I can find. That, and no one else seems to be reviewing this here yet. This is clearly a localization of an Asian game, which isn't an issue really... but there are some questionable wording choices. It's easy to overlook, but it warrants mention. I realize the tag "Metroidvania" has come to mean a lot of things, and I'm pretty forgiving of games using that tag... but I really wouldn't apply that here. It's a rogue platformer with some RPG upgrade and crafting elements. Perhaps this opens up in later levels, but it reads primarily as a platforming focused game to me. Not a problem per se, just a clarification. The assets are my primary concern: I'm not sure if I'm imagining it or not, but a lot these sprites look awfully close to Monster Sanctuary sprites. Potentially too close. I'm just saying..... All that said, it's enjoyable and cheap - two of my favorite qualities in a game.

This is an amazing game, hours of fun! If we add the price tag to that: it is worth buying even more!

As a fan of roguelite games, I certainly played this game way too much than it deserved with its blatantly repetitive level layouts, lack of real enemy variations (3 real variations on my count) and cost of new permanent upgrades grows way too high further down the list you get. Good movement controls was probably the reason for the amount of time I played this game but after three(3) hours it was starting to became clear to me that I would not very likely finish this game as I've seen everything there really is to offer and I can recommend way better roguelite games on market than Rogue Explorer. [h1]Verdict:[/h1] If you are looking for 2d roguelite game(s) checkout Rogue Legacy 1&2 and 30xx, not Rogue Explorer due to it's lack of real enemy variation & too grindy upgrade prices (even for roguelite game).

**NEVER 100% COMPLETELY TRUST A REVIEW OR REVIEWER!** I can’t even remember how many times I’ve seen this game, and thought “that looks like something I would really enjoy” but after reading some reviews, the general consensus was that this isn’t bad, just a shallow experience. Well, I eventually caved in during a sale because it was bundled with the Devs other game which also interested me (and is amazing) As it turns out I love it, and it has so much to offer (if this is shallow, I’m curious to see the type of games that aren’t!) I’m not sure what games to compare this to, but it’s a 2D action RPG, and I think it’s definitely worth your time.

its a fun game but there are flaws. the sticks dont work on controller and sometimes the portal is in the stupidest places blocking off sections of the map because you cant get by. if youre not going to make the portal something you have to actually click on or something then dont put it in stupid locations. should be obvious.

If you want Mindless entertainment with a mild yet irritating challenge? Miss grinding? Love action roleplay and rogue-like adventuring? Hack and slash your way through dungeons and beat some interesting bosses with this game. Just don't forget to roll. So far I enjoy crafting even though it takes several replays of a dungeon to get the mats you need. The character customization was a hard thing to find at first. The game literally starts with a preset character and then when you go in to the equipment setting you can change your hair, hair color, skin color and skin color. If you want you can be a blue haired, red eyed character with green skin. Overall I was having fun. Feels like this game might be one those hidden jewels. Try it for yourself.

The sense of the game can be to complete the combat areas to unlock more equipment to be crafted, buy skills of the character and increase the player's skill in the game in the process so that for the player tries to be the first in the leaderboard of some area. The longevity of the game can be based on grind to improve the favorite equipment to make the character stronger and the player being able to use the grind to play and relax for example. The game also has internal achievements in the form of "quests" that give equipment and "gold". ------------------------------------------------------- Positive Points: + The 2D art is good to see. + It has good music to listen like the first area after the tutorial and the ice area IMO. + Roguelike feeling in battle areas mainly in procedural mode. + The main character can be cute. + A lot of grind especially if the player wants to upgrade a lot of different equipment, for those who like grind. ------------------------------------------------------- Negative Points: - Maybe not for everyone but if you put the game in fullscreen some images are blurry, and in this case, if you are going to play in windowed mode, there is no option to hold the mouse in the game window. - Keyboard button configuration cannot be adjusted by the player, the fact that the player can use the mouse lessens this problem. - Traps in some cases can be unfair, the fact that their damage is not very large reduces this problem. - I don't know if this is true for everyone, but sometimes the long jump fails and becomes a small jump, maybe a bug. - I sometimes like to grind but in this game I feel the lack of something like a shop that sells crafting materials for "gold" and additionally can exchange craft materials for "gold". - It seems that more in-game events are needed to alleviate so much grind, like maybe a minigame or something else, currently the game has 3 situations: improving the character in the base, fighting in the combat areas, fighting the boss. - A lot of grind especially if the player wants to upgrade a lot of different equipment, for those who don't like grind. ------------------------------------------------------- Recommended because of positive points.
