I really enjoy the game. But i play on a deck and literally every hour of game play it crashes to a single frame per second and youre forced to hard close the game. The amt of game play i lose due to this is annoying

Don't waste your time playing this on multiplayer, or in general honestly. The number of game breaking bugs that have surfaced as they continue to add to the game is just insane. At least once per play session after slogging through huge adaptive difficulty battles in multiplayer (10 vs 25+ guys), only to come out victorious and get hit with a black screen bug that forces you to redo the entire 45 minute fight is just backbreaking for motivation. Coming out of hard won fights to just get hosed by the loot screen being non-interactive for both players.
This game was so much fun pre-DLC, never had any multiplayer issues or problems with loot screens/infinite load screens/game crashes. Now? It's every 2-3 fights. Sad too, I'd like to support Shiro and purchase DLCs and what not, but with the overly frustrating gameplay bugs, I can't...nor can I recommend people purchase this game at full price until they get the bugs fixed.

Loved the idea of medieval tactical game in low fantasy setting. Unfortunately it feels like beta version.
- All fire is perfect magical greek fire. Spreads by contact and is immune to water (having half of your squad on fire during heavy rain is ridiculous)
- Had situation when bleeding and poison jumped from enemy to one of my characters.
- That funny surprise when enemy bowman can only punch your tank and still inflicts a lot damage plus a status effect
- You do a story mission explaining what happened in a province yet you can't resolved connected mission in a different way than envisioned by scenario (your squad have knowledge to resolve other mission on the spot but you have to run half the map and fight pointless battle)
- I have 3k points of reputation and no use for it
- Seen Nightmare retreating into a fog and using its abilities when I had to wait for 2 rounds aimlessly
- Stopped playing after second soft-lock. Both during ghost pack encounter when character runs in terror and disappear

Been playing on and off for years, bugs still exist, not acceptable. Ironman is frustrating as a bug can kill a character or the entire team. Don't play ironman if your interested in the game. I don't know how they justify DLC when the game still has major bugs and even the instructions/plot are blatantly incorrect.

A bit like Bannerlord in that its an open ended game with a set world map and characters that you explore. This one is party based and has turn based combat while Mount and Blade Bannerlord is of course 1st/3rd person action.
This one has party management, Bannerlord has town or empire management. However the crucial difference is that while Wartales is satisfyingly deep game with fun mechanics and story points/characters to discover... MnB Bannerlord is a shallow, half baked game that still feels like Alpha Early Access despite its so called "1.0" release!
Those who like RPGs especially of the top down cRPG variety will probably like this. Those who like turn based combat will probably like this as well.
Oh and it has pretty decent Visual and sound/music design going for it as well!
Definitely recommended!

The game is fine but as you can see from Shiro Games, they are going to suck every penny out of you in order to continue the story. I purchased this on sale so the DLC's are just as expensive as I paid for the game and simply not worth the value gained. I really dislike it when game companies practice "nickle and diming" you to death for every DLC!

Starts attractive, but then turns out all the battles are not that much different from one another. Skill upgrades for your units help a bit, but not enough. So you just basically play almost the same battle again and again and again.
I finished 3 regions out of I do not even know how many. The RPG elements are pretty bland. And continuing the game feels like a further waste of time.

This game is the main character. The devs solicit feedback, listen, and implement valuable worthwhile changes and updates. I've played since pre-launch and the best part about everything that I've seen since then is the evolution that is Wartales. There are so many options on how your story begins and the type of game you want to have along your journey. The best part is how you can continue to play endlessly and take on contracts, revive rat nests, and find better gear and mercenaries. The game mechanics adapt to your play style and squad size based on preferences and no battle is the same.
You can play out as your good old noble self (which was me) until some guy with his glittering prizes jack wagon decided to call me a PEASANT and then proceeds to tell me to back away because I can't afford his goods. I mean, I'm usually bailing these guys out when they're being attacked by wild animals, criminals, or the ghost pack and you're going to really use that language on me with a hard emphasis on the "p"? I may have let my chivalry go on a hard down shift, (I am a mercenary after all) and let Leroth's sticky fingers work and by the end of it decided to dispatch the lot and had a wanted level that looked like I was in GTA, but that's not the point. Sure I may have skipped over a few details about trying to send a message, in that it didn't just become one single merchant....
Now I'm in full Robin Hood mode dodging and evading the Sheriff's Saucy Squad and their pointy sticks, all the while fending off other pocket pirate types that want to help me lighten my load. Luckily I've already made use of my utility belt and make haste with a piton, but somehow the sheriff has a mountain patrol unit and it's getting dark. My squads getting a bit fatigued and sprinting is only going to take me so far but I know a place...Maybe I woke up the next day and saw another shiny wagon, maybe I wanted to see if they had gotten the word yet, maybe they would be more hospitable.
I should probably mention there is a story line and it's really pretty good and there's lots to do in that department. Maybe there's a bit of a Princess Bride piece where there's a betrothed, a kidnapping, a returning of a kidnapping, mixed feelings and emotions, decisions to be made. Who will marry who, where will they go, what choice will you make? I'd be able to tell you if those meddling merchants would get their act together. I mean yes I know the whole charade going on here with them but you know, every once in a while when you've had your fill of being called a peasant and if one more person calls you that...but if I do that, then the Saucy Squad is going to be up in arms. I know there's a pig farmer that needs help and someone's uncle is somewhere; it's just....THE.....SHINY

The game necessitates far too much grinding without offering up enough smart, interesting content to bother with. I really want to like it, I really wish the game was better, but it seems like the only remarkable feature is the time sink.

I will start by saying, I love this game.
It's incredibly fun and immersive and hasn't gotten dull or boring after putting 70 hours into it the past few weeks.
The reason I can't recommend it is due to some pretty severe bugs that my friend and I have encountered.
Co-op is the reason I play the game, I wouldn't play it solo, its probably still fun solo, I just prefer playing with friends.
I am not sure if these game-breaking bugs are present in single player and I'm not keen on finding out.
There are some minor bugs here and there, NPCs roaming the map are invisible, the death animation for the two handed mace is backwards. These things I can look past.
The problem becomes when my friend and I spend over an hour clearing out a bandit camp and when we finally finish the fight, we get a black screen with no way to get out of it besides closing the game completely. This is a problem because then we have to go back to a previous save, which can sometimes be right outside the camp, within the battle, or sometimes we lose hours of progress. We have to be religious about saving the game because we have encountered this bug numerous times.
I can even look past this happening in bandit camps, because those are not necessary to the story. We can just skip them if the bug happens over and over. However, what I can't look past is when it happens in a story mission. My friend and I basically had to skip a whole region entirely because we were soft locked on a specific story mission in that area. We can't progress in the region without completing it, and no matter what we did, every time we fought the battle, it resulted in a black screen for both of us. After hours of trying to fix it we eventually cut our losses and moved to the next region.
I am not sure if many other people experience this bug, I haven't seen much chatter about it online. But for me, It really takes the wind out of our sails after spending hours on a really tough fight, only for none of it to matter and have to go to an earlier save to attempt it again. All the while wondering if it will even work the next time.
I will change my review to recommended after this bug gets resolved, but until then I have to not recommend it, even though the game is great :(.
