Very fun and immediately addicted to it. In a nutshell, this feels like Noita + Brotato/Vampire Suvivors. I really love that you can make wimbo combos throughout the games. It delivers the best part of roguelike game - the fun of insane build. Can't wait to try out more combinations.

Bio Prototype has a really interesting difficulty curve. I thought I had the systems figured out, but then something CLICKED and I started really putting together crazy builds. I was frustrated to see that characters don't seem to get preferred drops - like I played a whole run with the Fruit character and was only offered a couple fruit. If you're willing to spend the cells to reroll or buy extra organs it can pay off or just weigh you down miserably. But not every run's a winner. Hail to the Prototype!

Not feeling it. I'm strongly fond of the game's upgrade system: your offensive capabilities can't exist by themselves, they need to be tied to activation mechanisms, and those need to be tied to one another. This may sound like a huge mess, but it's actually fun to untangle and tinker with. Trouble is, the moment-to-moment gameplay is putting me to sleep. Seeing one's build in action is normally a great feeling, but not here. No matter which "theme" your build goes for, it's just not going to be flashy or satisfying enough, I'd say. I'm also perfectly fine with the absence of a metaprogression system (unlocks aside), but instead the game has a predefined set of in-run upgrades to offer, and getting them over and over again each run is a disrupting distraction that becomes tiresome to handle sooner rather than later. Bio Prototype's core concept is rock solid, but just about everything that surrounds it leaves quite a bit more to be desired.

Bio Prototype has an infuriatingly convoluted weapon upgrade system that enables a frankly overwhelming amount of customisation. However, as all you can accomplish is the unlocking of other characters, it's basically Brotato if that game were to ask you to fidget with optimising a logic puzzle for a few minutes between every round. That'll never be rewarding until the game offers a reason to stick to it and learn how to build properly. You'll find no progression, stats, bonuses, secrets, or ANYTHING ELSE between runs. Just characters with slightly different base stats & limitations. Kind of similar shortcomings to 20 Minutes Till Dawn in a lot of ways, but that one has a few upgrades and less characters. It's a stunted little game that could've even learned from ancient Flash games that progression systems offer really easy lasting appeal to a game. Players love having a carrot to chase... But builds are generally instantly overpowered or outright unplayable, without any fun tinkering between the matches. The variables are such nonsense that the game provides a training room between levels, just so you can check if you've completely bricked your build before continuing. You'll be buying the same upgrades most runs, so the currency doesn't feel fantastic either. Just feels like it's unfinished, and the developers have decided to ghost the game in favour of their future project. Don't support that behaviour. I wanted to love this game, I thought it was exactly what I wanted. Body horror, psychedelic palette, deeper customisation than its contemporaries. Easy sell. But there's nothing to support the depth. Instead, it's just massively tedious to play. This genre demands enormous strobing particle effects, high-octane monster spam, and quick, satisfying build choices - Bio Prototype, on the other hand, feels like it may have been better suited as some sort of strategic card-based auto battler game. I don't like those at all, it's just what the incredibly diverse customisation system seems qualified to support. A decent experiment, if nothing else. At least that's in the spirit of the game. Edit: Developers have been through the publisher's washing machine and ended up having to de-list, apologise, re-list, promise to give out free keys, apologise again, and finally release a discounted sequel that might address some of the features Bio Prototype really needed. I can't disapprove of the humanity on display, I guess they're just the sort of people who want to move on to the next project immediately at the 1.0 release. Still really darn curious how their publisher got themselves banned though. Best of luck with Bioweaver!

EDIT: Update July 7th, 2023. Unfortunately I found out the game has been abandoned by the developer per messages (and lack thereof) in the discord. Developer Emprom stated on June 15, 2023 they are "working on another project as outsourcing services". No other messages since that date have been made. Buy at your own risk. After 44 hours I have gotten all achievements and played every prototype except for Phantom and Statue. I have played multiple survivor/bullet heaven games like VS, Soulstone, Spellbook, Brotato, and Nordic Ashes. I would say this game is most similar to Brotato as there is no out of run meta stat progression besides unlocking different characters. The build variety and RNG is pretty satisfying to work with. The difficulty isn't much as there is no enemy projectiles, nor dash mechanics. The upgrade path per run from getting the right organ combinations does make the power curve feel great until you are a God obliterating everything. Do keep in mind you will need to tinker, think, and read to understand how to create some organ combos to do damage and have utility or crowd control. The only cons I can think of are the lack of sound effects, and the lack of transparency and sorting when it comes to your organs. At least usable organs are highlighted, but I would like to sort by organ type and have an easy to read list on which organs are doing the least and the most damage. Especially so in difficulty 5, where organ incompatibilities are randomized. I enjoyed my time with game and await further updates. Would recommend if you like survivor type games.

Its a Bullet Heaven game with influence from POE; things in slots connecting to other things in slots that make the make the screen fill with ... your choice. Its got combinations and opportunity for creativity like nothing else in the genre and messing with them is genuinely fun. It is receiving frequent updates and the Devs are involved and responsive to feedback. Rather then making a thing for 3$ and moving on, they are working to add deeper content and features. It is not yet a game you could put 100's of hours into, but it is headed in that direction. UI and Localization are influenced by the teams mostly Chinese roots - and they seem to see that and are working to add more languages etc. The game is a bit under promoted and has not gotten as much exposure as it deserves for related reasons - the Publisher doesn't seem to know how to handle English/Global audiences. This is also a thing the Devs seem to grasp and are taking efforts to improve. It is fully playable and fun now (see my 80+ hours) and worth 3$ just to "tag" it in your library so you can see the updates come in. When they add an "endgame" and some challenges worthy of the possibilities in "the box of tools" that are already present. I think they will regret setting their initial price point so low.

Similar to Brotato of the Vampire Survivors genre, Bio Prototype features quick waves after which you're allowed to pick multiple upgrades. What makes this game stand out is an unique upgrade system with puzzle and positioning elements, which rewards you for constantly rethinking your build. After hundreds of hours in the genre, I am positively surprised to see that some dev teams are still innovating! This game has both action and strategy. Review update with Early Access progress: Con: - Tutorial could be better, the mechanics are quite cryptic at first - Inaccurate character hitboxes Pro: - The devs are patching quickly and effectively => The translation has been significantly improved since EA start => Most major bugs have been fixed - Balance patches and new weapons added some new and viable buildstyles

The main component that keeps you playing is the "programming" of your abilities. Imagine it like a trading card game. You have attack cards (A) and cards that initiate those attacks (B). You chain those together and create one huge giga attack. For example: Bow10 (B) -> Arrow3 (A) = Bow shoots every 10 sec one arrow for 3 damage. Now you can add more stuff to the BABA chain so you may end up with an arrow that explodes and an explosion that poisons and a poison that shocks and a shock that explodes again...... So youre always on the look for cards that work well together to create whatever ability you want. Do you like that system? Buy the game. Does it sound boring or complicated to you? Dont buy it.

You make 2 pets every 2.5 seconds. Your pets each shoot 1 boomerang every 0.75 seconds. Your boomerangs shoot 3 bullets every 0.70 seconds. When your bullets hit an enemy or disappear they each make 3 lightning strikes. When your lightning strikes crit an enemy it triggers a nova. When your nova hits an enemy, it generates a positive Steam review. Brain Capacity 12/12
