Playtime: 92 minutes
I wanted to like this game, because I do have an interest in survival horror games, especially the ones inspired by Silent Hill and Resident Evil, but this game disappointed me so much I gave up playing it, watched a video play-through of the rest of the game at 2x(!!!) speed (I rarely watch full play-throughs of single player games from start to finish) and asked for a refund even after buying the game at a high discount. Despite the game leaving Early Access, it still felt unfinished to me. The things that annoyed me the most in the game: 1. Controls: I'm not going to comment on the keyboard controls as I played this game on a PS5 pad, but I wish this game had an option for alternative button setups, because assigning L3 as the button to turn on/off the flashlight was a TERRIBLE idea. I'd accidentally turn the flashlight on and off while strafing around to aim at enemies, which frustrated me a lot. 2. Why are there no Melee Weapons? When I got the combat knife, I thought I could use it on enemies to save up on scarce ammo, but apparently it's only used for stealth kills. 3. They could've done a better job with the map and the objectives like maybe at least mark some places of interest on the map with a question mark. I knew where to look for the gas station attendant's home, but for some reason it was not very clear where the Main Character's Ex-Wife's house was located. I only found it by chance when I decided to just explore the city. Sometimes it was not clear where to go next in this game. 4, The voice acting. Since the game was made in Russia, I decided to try playing this with a Russian dub and got really annoyed with the Main Character's constant cursing and unfunny one-liners he'd say EVERY time he killed an enemy. The gas station attendant's was just unbelievably annoying and cartoonish. Other voice acting was either okay or just plain forgettable. 5. The enemy/monster designs were very boring and not very scary. I'd even say the Main Character's ex-wife's model looked much more creepy and uncanny than any of the monsters here. 6. The story/presentation. When I first started playing the game, I liked the atmosphere and was curious about the storyline, but the game overall was extremely boring and failed to hook me in any way. 7. Not sure if this issue is minor, but I was very surprised that there was no option to examine the environment objects (like the creepy graffiti, the dead bodies, other bizarre objects) and read a text comment of the Main Character commenting about something looking very bizarre like in a lot of survival horror games. I guess this also contributed to me not giving a damn about the lore of the Rabbit Hole town and the game's storyline in general. 8. The game only has autosaves. I think it would have been better if there had been some save point locations to manually save the game since I read that some players complained about the autosaves/checkpoints starting before some frustrating moments of the game like the puzzles. What did I like in this game? I don't know. Maybe the music. The environments were competently made and gave me Silent Hill vibes. I do not recommend this, especially if you are into Survival Horror. Would not recommend this even at a 100% discount.
