an excellent little arena RPG. A session doesn't take long, and the build paths are interesting. I wish closing out a game you're clearly winning was easier, but it's not a hard enough knock to make this anything other than an enthusiastic recommend.

A surprisingly deep tactics game with a lot of charm! would highly recommend!
- a note for the devs: I would love to see this game on mobile platforms! i think it would fit really well on them!

I liked it :)
The Final Fantasy-esque job system and kitty relationships add a lot of depth to a simple premise; capture the most territory to win. Relationships are the most important factor in long-term maintenance of your kitty dynasty. Allying and defending a kitty in the early game will reward you with a powerful ally as they unlock new classes and abilities. The union may even produce a kitten that fights alongside its parents.
If I were to offer one critique, nurturing positive relationships is the only way to benefit from the system. I'd feel more like a schemer if I could turn enemies against each other on a whim.

This game has a lot of potential, don't get fooled by the Pixel style graphics, it has a lot of depth for a small game. There are many paths you can choose, and many different playstyles you can adopt. Overall, way worth the price. Congrats to the dev!
I do have a few constructive criticism that I'd like to give to improve the game. Some things I may advance because I haven't read all the gameplay rules very carefully, if so, I apologize in advance and you can disregard my comments.
- Tutorial popups should popup in the middle so as to not get overlooked.
- Action in slots should have tooltips so that one can see in one glance how much damage/heal you can deal.
-Game is very hard, even on easy mode and large map. In addition, it seems to me that it's hard to beat the game without attacking, it feels like you'd need to conquer over half of the map's territories to win the game by just conquest. Maybe that is intended though? This is reinforced by the fact that you don't get (or at least very little) xp from just conquering, in contrast to attacking/killing enemies.
Kind regards,
DN

Interesting game, but not exactly fun. It is mostly too easy, even on the hardest settings. Large/Expert is extremely boring. Small/Expert might be better, but I think it'd probably be won too soon -- I'll have to try it, but I seem to dominate by midgame.
You can certainly lose to hard counters, especially on the large maps that throw lots of random spawns at you, but as long as you keep an eye out for random spawns that hardcounter you, you will have an easy time.
If you see a hard counter, you can change classes to respond, so that's nice.
The core loop of the game is constantly grinding for territory in the face of mostly weak random spawns who constantly come in and take your points away. This is not quite fun. Also, checking random spawns' skills to see if they hardcounter you or not is pretty tedious in itself, since by that point you're just facerolling everything else and trying to get enough territory to win.
The AI is bad. If it were more bloodthirsty on the hardest difficulty and played like a human would -- i.e. aggressively attacking low-HP neutral cats -- then it would be better.
The builds don't feel especially diverse or interesting. Balance is bad. For example, you need Ranger and Ravager levels to unlock the Warden. The Warden skillset makes perfect sense with the Ravager, but it doesn't work at all with the Ranger because the Warden stunlock skill set is all short range, while the Ranger is long range. There's no creative way to make this work. So if you go Warden, you have to go for a Ravager subclass (although the Ranger is super OP by itself). This is bad for build diversity and there are several examples like this.
(I suppose you could take the Warden with a Ranger to help stop melee aggressors, but it seems like a lot of work for some maybe-useful defensive skills that I ultimately never needed to win.)
A lot of the skills feel samey and uninteresting, with similar ranges and functionality.
The UI could be much better, since it's hard to tell what e.g. territory effects do. Swapping out skills is clunky and tedious.
I got this game for about $1, so I can't complain about the price. It's an interesting little game at first, but it's not very well designed and it quickly becomes dull.

It's a pretty good game, it certainly takes a minute to understand the game and all its aspects but its very interesting nonetheless, do be warned it tends to crash if you play on easy difficulty but that's the only issue I've had so far. Great game to have open in another browser while playing something else as well.

Does this game seem simple to you? Then try not to incinerate your tactical brain cells in the fight for kitty neighborhood! Would love to have some kind of kitty campaign here, though.

Update: The previous bug that caused a crash has been very promptly fixed. The review has therefore been changed to 'Recommend' in light of the professionalism from the dev.
Great game design. Quite addictive even.
However, limited re-playability due to the lack of multiplayer. I hope that the dev would work on adding multiplayer (local, online).

I worked with the developer on the music and sound for this game so it's fair to say I'm biased but I really love playing Kitty Tactics! It's as challenging as you want it to be, from an idle game on easy mode to a head scratcher on hard mode. The presentation is easy to understand and the focus of the game design has gone into the huge range of classes, skills the tactical options afforded by their combinations. Plus has a lot of charm with cute kitties and helpful tips to get you started on a game that has a lot of depth considering the asking price

I played a small / easy game for tutorial learning, and then a medium / normal game to apply it. Once I got the friend system down, I got an ally cat and over the course of the match we had two kitten allies. I don't know if I was able to make / have more than that? Opened up a large / hard map just to see if the map had anything different to its layout, but it was only bigger.
The good:
- The class tree and friend system really add an interesting twist to the tactics genre.
- Swapping skills and leveling up the classes can really change the game up in an instant.
- The tutorial was very easy to understand and follow.
- $4 game
The bad:
- This game as it is currently bare bones. Only being able to select map sizes (small/med/large) and difficulties (easy/normal/hard) for content.
- Bland map with no variations.
- After winning a map, the game continues on with no further goal.
Suggestions:
- Add scenarios / missions
- Add environmental visuals
- Add map variety, perhaps "mountains" or X's over spaces that cannot be walked on by anyone (can be used to create the above mentioned scenarios).
- Add a secondary goal after you beat a level, if you wish to continue.
- Allow the cat player icons to has the fur be the player color. I sometimes had difficulty telling which cat belonged to what territory as they are all base white, with their player color's tiny clothes. (hard to see).
- Perhaps an online or local multiplayer someday?
Current score is 3/5.
Overall: This game, day one feels very unfinished.
Feels like I stumbled into its beta rather than a 1.0 product. The ideas are very good, and I hope it continues to get updates. I don't see myself replaying this more until more variety of maps/scenarios are introduced. This game could really benefit from a mobile version with multiplayer. Be aware there is a demo to try it prior, and see what you think. But it is a small indie game, so support indie developers if its in your budget. I hope for big things and overall support in future updates.
