If you find low level logic and programming to be extremly satisfying this is the right game.

The goal of this game is simple: make a functional 8-bit computer and run some programs on it with assembly code. The game is streamlined for people who aren't super into computer science in a few ways (ex. 8 bit numbers being represented by one wire) to simplify a lot of schematic busywork. Other than things like that, this game is a challenge, just like all of digital electronics is. Because of that, I'm throwing the usual things I score games on (graphics/aesthetics, gameplay, story, etc.) out the window. The game is functional, it does what it needs to & doesn't worry about having all your usual bells and whistles. Stage by stage you're going to be making more complex logic gates, going from just the universal components to half & full adders, negative numbers in binary, assembly code, etc. For just that I'd say this is an easy win for anybody who wants to get into digital electronics and feel the sense of accomplishment that comes with it. My only (minor) gripe is that sometimes the prompts for the early levels are somewhat ambiguous or even misleading. When a new component is introduced, the game doesn't hold your hand & tell you that you'll need it for the next level or when you complete a level, it doesn't tell you whether or not your schematic is optimized. I often looked to outside resources or even lectures on youtube to get the clarity I needed for explanations on why my schematics didn't work or even why they did. As time went on I actually considered it a benefit that the game practically requires you to look for outside resources to learn things that weren't taught in the game; in computer science that's basically half the job. Whether Turing Complete is going to have continued support or not, it's a damn good game as is.

Fantastic game, but its not easy. youre gonna be learning a lot of boolean logic, logic gates, truth tables, binary, etc. Its a fantastic teaching game. contrary to some belief, the game is still being worked on. while there hasnt been a main branch update in a while, the experimental branch is getting updates every few days. so its still definitely being actively worked on.

I haven't played this game for a long time yet, but it already is highly addictive and super educational. It helps you understand basic computer functions and the fact that there is a sandbox mode is just super dope.

Still has a long way to go I think. I am a complete novice who thought this may help me learn something. But no guidance or explanation was given so I have no idea why I was solving the puzzles or why it was relevant. I think for people with more background and understanding then me would have found it very useful as practice. I would have appreciated some teaching. As is, not worth $20 to me.

I was pleasantly surprised with how much this game teaches you about basic logic and computer architectures. At a certain point it stops holding your hand and expects you to figure complex problems out on your own, so it is not for the faint of heart. But it is incredibly satisfying to watch an actual computer that you made at work.

Outstanding puzzle game. It is difficult, but once you find a solution to a given task, you feel like you actually achieved something. Oh and as of time of writing The Patch isn't out yet... Developer keeps insisting that game isn't abandoned though.
