Good game. Hard as nails, but it's a good challenge if you're looking for one

Died approximately 1100 times to complete the game on Brutal difficulty, then immediately uninstalled. Easily one of the most, if not the most unique, uncompromising and unrelenting games I've ever played in my life. 100% recommend P.S. Janna Polzin as Caroline kept me smiling through the pain - some of the best voice acting in any game ever

Only beat the first chapter so far but the scifi world built here and art/music/gameplay are amazing. Has one of the best hub levels in any game and the library/beastiary in there are really cool. Also now that some of the difficulty stuff has been rearranged so that there is actually an easy/normal mode instead of all hard I think it will be open to a wider audience to enjoy. For the price this one is a must have for anyone into FPS at all.

I've played through this game several times now. It's fast, it's challenging and it's incredibly fun. I have a soft spot for overly talkative FPS protagonists and Caroline is one of the best.

It's definitely a game you'll grow to love if it interests you. It's tough, and at first feels a little awkward but when you get to that point where you feel the pulse of the game, you'll be begging for more even as the credits roll. Fantastic story(simple, doesn't get in the way if you don't care but has good depth for those of us that do), a soundtrack that REALLY stands out amongst the boomershooter legends, and voicework that'll make you smile. Give it a shot people.

A triumph of an FPS blending the old school speed of Quake with new school vibes of Doom Eternal. This game is a love letter to the days of Doom, Duke, Lo Wang, and everything in between, however, its difficulty is not to be underestimated. To get the most joy out of this game, keep your ego in check. Do not attempt the harder difficulties unless you are ready for a true challenge, and do not feel shame in changing your difficulty if you're not having fun. The developer has added a ton of difficulty and assist options to let you tailor the game to your liking. Take advantage of them and have fun with it. Come for the love story, stay for the psychological horror that will leave a scar.

Unambiguously the best FPS that's come out in a long long time. Very much a 'zoomer shooter' - movement is very fast but only slightly physics based, there's an iframes dodge that you use about equal amounts for iframes and for movement, melee is something you use against specific enemy types or when you can lock one guy down and pummel him for resources, you're given about as much ammo as you need and not much more (but you also never have to farm for ammo or anything, and indeed can't, it's all built into the level), you die SUPER fast if you're caught out but you're pretty much never expected to tank damage, etc.. This game is unapolgetically modern in a good way. This is a sprite based game where the first priority is the ability to see what is happening, and despite how chaotic some of the later chapters get this is never really a problem (you may need to turn the gamma up a touch for episode 2 though). We've evolved past the need for alt-fires because how weapons work is contextual; some guns have an 'alt fire' from shooting a wall, some have alternate effects from being at point blank, some vary between uses as ways to stun enemies and sources of DPS, it's all gameplay driven and requires the player to use guns deliberately rather than being just an obligate tacked on flashy button. The only good voice acting or written dialogue is by the main character, but it's also the only voice acting that matters. Story is pretty clever and straightforward, but also not really important. There's no sort of nonsense metaprogression (eat your heart out ULTRAKILL) that gets in the way of just playing the game, finishing levels with low ammo doesn't prevent you from choosing to replay the level with all weapons on max ammo at a later date (or pistol starting, or anywhere in between - you decide, and why shouldn't you?), but the normal episodic experience of finding weapons and using them through the levels is perfectly intact. Almost all of the recent negative reviews basically boil down to complaining that the game is hard, which is funny because it's had extremely forgiving lower difficulties since before those reviews. If you actually want an FPS where you can gib things and the fights are exciting and movement matters, this is your best option. Honestly, it's so good that it gives me hope for the genre - we already had good games, but they were extensions of old formulas (like DUSK). This is a good game which actually follows a nice mix of modern conventions and good elements from traditional episodic shooters. Also, it's reasonably difficult (if you want it to be), which is truly a rarity amongst shooters and movement shooters especially.

Pretty annoying game. It forces to jump all the time and use powered up fist, because otherwise you will lack ammo to kill enemies. Act 1 on normal was manageable (mostly because easiest enemies die quickly to melee, and you can collect ammo for stronger enemies) but act 2 is terrible, you start with no weapons, game gives you one weapon (something like shotgun) and almost no ammo (pickups are like 1 or 2 bullets), and besides that you have shitty pistol (something like pistol from Doom- only good for weakest enemies), and game throws waves of enemies at you (some really tanky like these fuckers with aoe crystals that slow you down) that require multiple shots or multiple melee hits. Not fun at all. I uninstalled. Cant refund because I bough it long time ago on early access, but ill be sure no to buy any ea games ever again. Other flaws- bosses not fun to play, have million hp and multiple phases and are not interesting. Before boss is like minute long dialogue that is not interesting at all, but you cant skip it (its not a cutscene, its in game that you cant jump or run and just have to wait and listen to these characters talking). Levels are ok, but kinda maze-like with the samey corridors everywhere, sometimes you dont know where to go next, level design could be better. Also the level with fuckin ghosts, that you cant hurt, game doesnt explain anything, you dont know what to do, it is not cool or anything, just 10 minutes of pure annoyance. Why is it even in shooter, I dont know. Overall im pretty disappointed. I thought bunny hopping would be option for best players to show awesome skills, but instead its a gimmick that is not fun to use, but game requires it.

Extremely fun shooter with an immensely likable protagonist that talks a lot. Tons of one-liners that made me smile and reinforced my attachment to the character. The first 2 chapters are absolutely wonderful with cool interspersed set pieces, badass music and well paced progression that had me addicted. The third chapter is tonally very different from the first two and leaves me in a bind. I don't want to call it 'bad' because it's not. It's just a very rapid shift in emotional texture, which I imagine is meant to convey Caroline's newfound vulnerability and fear in an unfamiliar, impossible place. It succeeds in portraying those emotions, but by proxy it also hurts the otherwise stellar pacing in service of fleshing out the main character. Very satisfying game to play and improve at. It has a surprising amount of restraint in it's storytelling and knows how to play up intrigue, sprinkling little bits of exposition for you to fixate on as you play. If you enjoy this type of shooter then you should buy the game, but moreover if you want a compelling story with characters and a conflict that drives the action and builds immersion? Don't miss this one, it's a great time. Fingers crossed for more of Caroline in the future. P.S. The devs seems well aware of the issues surrounding Chapter 3. They posted a dev update video ~3 months ago explaining that their publisher more or less demanded the game be released in April so they could move on to other projects, but seeing as this game is still receiving updates, I've no doubt they'll remedy all they can. I'm definitely gonna make a point of checking up on the game later for another playthrough, seeing as more updates are surely on the way.

Fantastic shooter, but don't go in expecting a game that plays like a lot of other boomer shooters do. Damage is high, ammo is limited, and projectiles are numerous. You're not walking into a room and effortlessly making enemies disappear, you're desperately scrambling around trying to get the most effectiveness out of your weird but powerful weapons, against enemies who are just as weird and powerful. It's definitely a gameloop that not everyone will enjoy, but I absolutely loved it. Also I hope that everyone can have someone in their life that loves them as much as Caroline loves Athens, love wins
