Not only is this the best indie game i have ever played, this takes the spot for the best story title i’ve ever experienced. To start off, the game feels like a persona game with social stats and a balance between dungeon crawling and leveling up personas (confidants in this game). The part thats done differently is that the combat is top tier. Its comparable to ZZZ and elden rings combat with parrying and quicktime dodges but theres also elemental buildup ultimates you can use to 1 tap or break the shields on high level enemies. I think the idea of unlocking more elemental abilities as you meet the characters is great, and helps you learn the game over time instead of throwing everything in your face at once. I heavily recommend you play the entire game on the hardest difficulty because the challenge is great and it allows you to fully appreciate the combat in this game.
In my opinion, the strongest part of Eternights is the character writing. Every character in the game has their own unique personality and they all have ACTUALLY INTERESTING backgrounds. This game has the most fun and engaging dialogue i’ve ever read and personally I dont think anyone could of done it better. Every single conversation with one of your friends is meaningful and every response you are given to option to use is short and easy to decide on but still conveys a lot of meaning almost every time. My favorite is Yuna. An example of the characters just being a hell of a time to talk with is when your character makes a dirty joke in the beginning of the game around Yuna and she continues to reference it literally until the ending.
On the topic of the ending, this game has the most meaningful and beautiful ending I have ever witnessed. Straight up finished the game and a single tear dropped down my eye. The way the game concludes, the emotion it conveys, the goosebumps you get from the AAA level production quality, everything about every moment of this game is absolute perfection and I cannot recommend it enough. Whether its on sale or not, this game is worth the money. Trust me.
Written after 1 full playthrough on expert mode.

Eternights - 2023 Review - Hidden Gem that everyone loves hating on!
I get it, we don't all have the same opinions, and that's ok! I do think this game gets some hate that it doesn't deserve. I hear a lot that its pervy with lots of fan service. Yet then I see the same people rave about later persona games or trails games with the same pervy factors and fan service (Don't get me wrong, I love the Trails Series). I can only come to the conclusion that since this developer loved Persona, and made a game that was similar but obviously not the same budget as a AAA Persona 5, it felt more like a hollow copy....and boy did that anger a lot of Persona fans clearly. Now while I get where some of the disappointments can come from, I don't think this game was just a hollow copy. In fact I think it came with some of the better character conversations and relationships in a game. There is a lot to love here if you give it a chance.
Art Style:
The in game art style was simple yet clean looking. I felt like it was a good job not trying to get too ahead of themselves by taking on too much. The still visuals we extremely well done. Was the game sometimes darker than Game of Thrones in the White Walker War? Yes it was. I get the thought, but at times I felt like I couldn't see a thing. I also saw comments about the in game character art. I actually found them very expressive, maybe not the most detailed, but that's not what this game was going for. Respect it for what it is, not what you want it to be.
Cast of Characters:
I’ve seen a lot of complaints here….and yes the characters are very tropey at times. But honestly I felt like the conversing was extremely well done. The relationships felt real and the way the conversations were done and the VA really put so much more into it. I was really impressed with the voice acting! The main character while being silent actually had his own personality, which you could see from your conversation choices. I liked that rather than just a full clean slate. Yes there is an overall pervy feel, but it was clear that was going to be the case when the game was announced as a dating rpg.
Gameplay:
Saw a lot of hate on this and honestly I didn’t like it either at first. Until it just all of a sudden clicked for me. It wasn’t meant to be a hack and slash game. Dodging an enemy attack with precision slows down time, giving you a better opportunity to attack. Hitting an enemy enough times within a short period creates a combo, allowing you to perform a stronger attack or a finisher. Attacking enemies or performing Perfect Dodges charges the Elemental Gauge, and parts of the Gauge can be used for an Elemental Fist attack that breaks enemy barriers if you succeed in a quick-time event. I would honestly say this games biggest hold back is feeling very contained. I would have loved to freely explore in this game. Especially since Seoul is a place I have wanted to visit. I would have loved to see costumes and such included but when reminded that this was one person working on this, it all makes sense and really makes you appreciate what Studio Sai did here.
Soundtrack:
Doing this review a bit later after playing the game and I can’t say I remember much of the OST. It had a very repetitive feel to it, while not the same songs for every area, they were very similar in feel. Most of them had a cool vibey undertone to them. Just nothing that jumped out to help emotional moments. I will say the battle vibes were enjoyable, again just nothing that left lasting impressions.
Story:
I found the story quite fun. Yes it was predictable at times and not anything too deep, but I don’t think it was trying not to be. It made me want to replay and get every ending. This story was less about what was really going on and more about the characters and the struggles they were dealing with during or before the incident. This is where the strength was, within each character conversation. I really didn’t want to game to end, and I felt the ending was a nice twist.
Overall:
All in all, it’s no masterpiece, but I had so much fun with this game. Maybe my expectations were super low so I enjoyed it? All I know is it was one of my top games for 2023 that I played. I would have loved to see the world more opened up, but also realize that with 1 dev that’s kind of a big ask. Very excited to see what this studio does in the future!

Not amazing in any way but still worth playing
Combat is fun even if shields and relying on QTEs can be very annoying, especially when facing multiple tough enemies
Writing is a miss for me but I can see a lot of people enjoying it, since I myself would have loved to play this back when I was younger and started watching anime
Also it was a nice surprise to see that Yohan is romanceable, Atlus could never tbh

Honestly had little expectations playing this game but it was a lot better than what I thought it'd be. The lack of music through me off when fighting enemies and the combat was a bit janky but not terrible by any means. At some stage I will probably try new game plus. 7/10 game

It's worth it on sale and good for a game made by a small team. Don't recommend it at base price of $30.

Just finished. Gameplay is shit, although it could be worse. The story made me tear up, it's a good game, it's worth buying. I really felt like I was around friends when I interacted with the NPC. Thank you.

So far for me this is a pretty good game. I was hesitant because at first because of the whole dating sim tag. however someone told me it was't that bad. I really enjoyed the game it is really fun. I am not a single player type of person, I prefer multiplayer games. But this game is enjoyable

Eternights is a fun little game. It takes a lot of ideas from Persona, but it certainly isn't a clone. I was really impressed by how ambitious it was for a small team, and I think they pulled it off.

See that playtime? Yeah that was ONE DAY.
I bought this game on a complete whim after my friend and I came across some gameplay footage, and it looked, quite simply, so bad it's good.
The next morning, I loaded it up and started playing it, I then proceeded to continue to play it until I had finished it and was bawling crying.
The gameplay is simple yet effective, the combat system is extremely fun and the social aspects are woven in perfectly. While the game definitely left me wanting more after I had finished it, I know that if there were more, I'd just get bored. Though for the length of the game the gameplay works perfectly and is extremely engaging.
By far the star of the show is the character writing. These characters are written so well that the game really made me feel like actual friends with these guys within only 10 hours.
All in all, this game is essentially the definition of a hidden gem and I 100% recommend it. Made me cry tons.
