While I think the main themes of the game are something special, I believe the game would have benefited more from being a visual novel, as the story it tells is weighed down by the gameplay. Had it been a VN, I think you could have told more in writing and art, instead of what we got as a puzzle platformer lite.

Recommended if bought on sale.
Indika is a weird game, simply because it starts great with outstanding mood and promisses but fails to keep up. The game fizzles out into some weird unfitting retro pixel art mini game elements to tell Indika's past but honestly it doesnt work well.
I wish the developers would have kept the depressing and haunting vibe with signs of schezophrenia. On top, the whole world gets more bizarre like a 90s European indie movie. What was that all about with the giant fish cans?! Fish for giants? But why?
Nonetheless, the game has great elements i wish i could have expierienced and discovered more.
The whole game feels like a team started and campaigned the game 60% but then was abandomned and a different team of digital nomads picked the project up and stiched it together with random elements and story telling,
Graphics ranges from 9/10 to 4/10
Gameplay ranges from 10/10 to 2/10
Story and mood from 9/10 to 1/10

Just finished Indika and damn god what a psycho trip!
I don’t even know if I can recommend it or not.
This game resonated with me, even though it can be ugly, cruel, and very weird.
It’s a walking sym mostly with simple enviro puzzles. And it’s an arthouse story and by a lot.
Not sure if you will fully get the story cause it’s based a lot on Orthodox Church stuff and the everyday life of the USSR.
But I can guarantee, it’s very original. Somehow it reminded me a bit of What remains of Edith Finch.
I truly dunno how to elaborate, other than I liked it.

This game brought back the memories of russian literature class 10/10. Music and visuals are immaculate, dialog is real (ru dub)

Completed in a little under 5 hours but that's by no means a bad thing.
Was it especially challenging? No.
Were there parts where I had to stop and think a bit? Yes.
Was it artistically superb in every conceivable way? Absolutely.
So many games these days take ages but don't always offer something all that unique.
This was something just altogether different.
Visually immersive. Exceptional characters. Very surreal.
And you can play the whole thing in one weekend/one sitting. I mean, how many games do you get so far into and then never end up finishing? I can honestly say there wasn't a single part of it I didn't enjoy.
Indika has instantly become one of my favourite games I've ever played.
Cannot recommend highly enough.

Storytelling, voice acting, and the metaphors are truly flawless. It portrays a psychological inner conflict. We witness the remarkable journey of a nun who compares her own thoughts with the strict teachings of her monastery. My only criticism is that the game is too short.

INDIKA
Interesting story and characters.
Mysterious world.
The game has a few problems like the checkpoint saving, imo its not really clear when the game saves?
So often when i took a break from the game and came back i had to redo game sections.
Also some of the mini games where the game became a pixeled platformer game,
was just annoying and feelt like a waste of time.
But over all i really liked this game.
And it was an interesting journey with the young nun Indika.

From a narrative standpoint, it’s too one sided and unexplored. From a gameplay standpoint, it’s unexplored as well. From a “steam deck verified” standpoint it’s not good to put it lightly.
I didn’t like how little gameplay was affected by the Devil. One of the levels involves Indika shifting between two realities, her personal hell and a real world
This is used twice (initially I said once, but then remembered the first one near an elevator). Would it be repetitive if it was used a couple more times? Not really, there are many ways to make dimensional travel interesting, and I’d definitely like it more than platforming with clunky controls.
Every dialogue is Indika doubting her faith and Christianity in general, either her or the devil. I am not an orthodox christian, but the entire game felt like a 3-hour Reddit post from r slash atheism “dae Christians insane and bad”. Not once you meet someone who makes Indika think that maybe faith has its place or at least reasons why it came to be.
Voice actors carry this game hard (played in Russian). Like, I could actually recommend it because of that.
Minigames were surprisingly difficult, but I am a terrible gamer, so whatever.
The dreaded optimization. 50 gigabytes to enjoy a 3 hour game movie. Steam deck badge doesn’t mean much here: I locked it at 30fps and had drops to 15-18 in a big fish factory.
Yeah sure man whatever, idc put it at 1fps, let’s watch a slide film.
To sum it up:
+ Indika
+ САНИ ХОТЯ БЫ ОСТАВЬТЕ! СТОЙ СУКА!
+ Russian empire somehow mixed with megastructures with BLAME and people now live in fragile vertical labyrinths of wood
- fish factory introduces novel seconds per frame
- faith sucks amirite
- gameplay isn’t good even by movie standards.
Overall: only play on PC and enjoy the voice acting

I love the surrealism in this title; it showcases the boundless creative potential of games to tell a story. Well-written and impactful.
