"Fun for casual tennis fans, but lacks depth over time“
I picked this up because I’ve always loved playing tennis in real life, and figured I’d give it a shot virtually. Gotta say—‘Matchpoint - Tennis Championships’ does a pretty decent job of capturing the feel of the sport in a simple, accessible way.
The controls are super easy to learn, which makes it great even if you don’t really know much about tennis. You won’t be overwhelmed by complicated mechanics or button combos—just pick it up and start hitting.
The character customization is decent (not super deep, but enough to keep it interesting), and the tutorial and career mode were actually more polished than I expected. It’s fun building your player up and climbing the ranks!
That said… the game does get repetitive pretty fast. The physics and gameplay mechanics are very basic. Once you get the hang of a few simple tricks, even the harder AI becomes predictable. It’s kind of a bummer because the core gameplay loop doesn’t evolve much over time. Most championship matches start to feel the same after a while.
Still, I had fun with it overall. It’s light, it’s easy to pick up, and it scratches that tennis itch without being overly serious. If you’re looking for a casual tennis game to play with friends or family members in co-op, it’s definitely worth checking out!
Rating: 6.5/10 – solid casual fun, but not something I’d sink dozens of hours into.
