I'm only through to the first major boss, but this game charmed me immensely. Usually when one hears "comedy game" they expect it to also be lackluster in terms of actual gameplay, but rest assured, the running and the gunning and the platforming feel very good and aren't just vehicles for the next bit. One of my favorite gags about the whole game is that this is like another Nanobreaker in terms of just how much robotic violence and viscera is witnessable at one time lmao

This is a... unique FPS. It takes inspiration from [u]Ratchet & Clank[/u] in its weapon upgrading systems and generally being wacky, and then from [u]DOOM[/u] with its air dashing and double jumping, and also from bullet hell shooters with how the levels will be absolutely filled with enemy projectiles. It's also a comedy game, with enough side objectives to qualify for a [u]Like a Dragon[/u] game with even continuing storylines, from becoming a basketcube champion to rising through the karate ranks to even going on a dating show. Problem is it isn't really that funny. There are decent jokes here and there but the delivery is always awkward and inexperienced, like someone who loves reading about jokes online but has no idea how to tell them to people. The combat is decent but the weapons level up extremely slowly to the point I couldn't even upgrade all of them by the game's end despite grinding in specific spots for ages, and even while half the guns don't upgrade at all. Jesus Christ, the pistol and carp gun are unforgiveable (AND I GET THE MAGIKARP JOKE! IT'S STILL TEDIOUS!). It's not bad to play at all but you do have to be forgiving of the game's faults. Some people criticise that nothing really happens in the game. The plot, such as it is, is that you and a bear fuse and get stranded in space and need to get back to Earth, with all you end up doing being going from one weird place to the next. It is true that the plot is shallow but critics fail to realise that such is the whole point; the protagonist is bored with the prospect of retirement and [U]Bears in Space[/U]'s emphasis on side quests illustrates that it's not the destination but the journey that matters. Going straight from Point A to B is to miss almost half the game's content. The whole point is to stop and smell the roses. Explore, look around, meet new people, kill them, and be rewarded for it. The storytelling isn't good enough to convey this meaningfully. The game would've benefitted greatly from Maxwell Atoms talking consistently throughout the game, partly because Beartana's voice is absolutely horrible to listen to, partly because a comedy duo is hard to get wrong, but mainly because it would help us connect with the themes of [u]Bears in Space[/u] better by showing us Max's feeling.

After spending 26.1 hours 100%ing this game, I had to say that I absolutely love it! It has such a nice charm to it. The humor is so goofy, the characters are very cute (beartana has a special place in my heart so I may be a little biased when I say that), the levels are fun to run through, and there is so much more that I loved about this little game. While I did have some difficulty with some of the challenges, I still enjoyed playing through the entire game and finishing all that it had to offer. One of my favorite features that I feel like I should mention is that the game offers different "mini-games" throughout the levels. Without spoilers, there is a mini-game that is basically one of those shooting games you find at arcades which took some time getting used to as I don't usually play those games but I had a lot of fun regardless. This game is seriously so unique in my opinion so I highly recommend picking it up. I can't forget to mention all of the references this game makes. The references (and sometimes puns) are *chef kiss*. This is probably just a wall of me yapping but there aren't enough words to describe the joy this game has brought me and all that I liked about it (other than saying "I like all of it"). TDLR: game fun, you should play game, and beartana is everything to me ^_^
