Only gave it a thumbs up considering that it is still in early access (EA).
What I liked:
- The system of unlocking new buildings as you develop you relation with the NPCs
- The festivals (although some of them lack content)
What needs improvement:
- Too much grinding, please put more nodes of ores everywere, give access to caves with gold, mithril and whatever ore a player needs.
- To get your pokemons (blobs) to improve you need to fight with them hundreds of times. Since the fighting is not that interesting, it become tedious very fast
- The relationship progress should be much faster. I spoke to one the characters everyday (this one cant be fought) for a year and a half and got to level 2 (the game goes to level 5 in EA, so it would take me many years before developing the relationship). Because of that issue you have to read the same dialog many times.
TLDR: the game needs to get a much faster pace (more ore avalilabe, faster blob XP gained and faster relationship development) but since it is in Early Access, I wont be too harsh and give it a thumbs up.

Honestly this game is a very cute idea and could have been great but, the big game flop for me is not having a quest marker system in a game with such big open valleys. The Valley's are plain and right at the start you get lost finding the first person to talk to. Until a quest guide/marker system is made i can not in full confidence let my friends purchase this game.

Super cute and fun, stock up on energy and health items when entering the mines. Still using forest stones, excited to see where this game can go! P.S I would love to get a platypus egg and some content I can purchase with my steam point, i.e profile pic, page skin etc

Heads up it is a slow grind, the battling is fun but the leveling is a bit of a struggle (I may be doing something wrong) I do recommend it if you like a game that will have you sat and learning. there are a few balance issues but again its a slow grind! the art style took me a minute to adjust to. Im looking forward to whats to come.

I started playing this game when it first came out in EA and I love it. I've started over a couple of times when new updates would make improvements, like Flint's storage. It felt really limiting before that, but afterwards I was more comfortable breeding. The dye shop was a great addition as well, it made breeding feel less tedious. Also appreciate the training equipment. I like being able to make the day longer, but it still feels too short somehow. It feels like it takes too long to take care of the blobs and the crops in the morning. Despite that I definitely have more pros than cons with this game. It's like the Pokemon/Story of Seasons game I've always wanted.

This game is amazing and is currently tied for my favorite game of the year next to Fantasy Life! There wasn't one moment where I was bored there was always something happening or something to work on in the game. Everything from the events to the character stories and more are all so well done and there is a ton of content in early release to make it worth diving into before the full release. 10/10 and works like a dream on the steamdeck. I can't wait until the full release update comes out!!!! ♥♥♥

I've played Ova Magica for around 40 hours now. At first, I was hooked, the game is charming, cozy, and addictive. I wanted to love it, and it started out really strong. But the deeper I got, the more it felt like the devs didn’t know how to make the game last longer, so they padded everything out with grindy mechanics and frustrating limitations.
Everything in the game is insanely expensive, but the stuff you sell barely gives you anything back. The economy just feels unbalanced. The only thing that sells for a decent price is eggs, which sounds good until you realize they have a 2% drop rate. So if you want a specific blob? Get ready for an endless grind and a lot of luck. Don’t even get me started on breeding. Breeding is another frustrating part. You’re given 30 blobs, but barely enough space for 12 unless you grind forever to build more barns. So even opening an egg feels like a gamble, is it worth it when you don’t even have the room for a bad roll? They did add an item to let you see what’s inside an egg, which sounds great... except after 40 hours, I’m not even halfway to unlocking it. On top of that, you need to have bred blobs just to beat the blob world, but how are you supposed to do that when breeding is gated behind so much slow progress?
Relationships are tied to dumping massive amounts of resources into building random building, many of which don’t seem all that useful. Gathering takes forever, and even with the longest day setting, I barely get anything done. The tiny energy bar forces you to spend more time crafting or buying food (which costs more time and resources), just to cut down a few trees or mine a few rocks.
Some item descriptions are super vague. Like, what do the boss fragments even do? I tried looking it up and still couldn’t find a straight answer. Same with flowers, are they worth selling or should I be holding onto them? Sure, sometimes your blob wants to eat one to boost max health, but is it really worth it when the only real way to get strong blobs is by breeding them? Like I mentioned earlier… that’s a whole huge mess on its own.
Also, the camera can be really annoying at times. You have full control when you’re outside in the world, but the second you go inside a house or building, that control disappears. Trying to leave turns into you bumping into furniture, walls, basically everything, just to find the door again. It’s extra frustrating because days go by so fast in-game that wasting time like that actually hurts your progress.
In the end, it just feels like I’m being punished for playing. The charm wears off fast, and what’s left is a grind-heavy game with too many roadblocks. I truly hope the devs take the feedback seriously, because there’s potential here, but right now, it feels like wasted time.
