As someone just getting into the Warhammer 40K universe (tabletop and lore), Battlesector has been the perfect gateway drug. I recently picked up the Ultimate Starter Set for the tabletop game, but let’s be real—it’s a lot. Between points, positioning, special rules, and enough acronyms to make your head spin, it can be overwhelming.
Enter Battlesector. This game delivers just the right amount of tactical crunch without making my brain melt. It feels like a streamlined, digital representation of the tabletop—unit facing, overwatch mechanics, squad composition, and ability synergies all feel meaningful. And more importantly, I understand them now.
Going through the campaign has been a blast, and I find myself wanting to replay missions just because I’ve learned so much mid-way through (like, oh... facing matters a LOT). I’m also digging the army building and experimenting with loadouts in ways that I can already tell will help me when I hit the real tabletop.
Haven’t even touched the other factions much yet, but I plan to hit up the skirmishes—and maybe even go head-to-head with my son for some digital father-son carnage. 👨👦🔫
If you're new to the 40K universe and want a more digestible way to dip your toes in the blood-soaked waters of the Imperium, Battlesector is a fantastic place to start.

It's Warhammer 40k. You move your little dudes around and shoot/stab the other team. It's not bad. You're completely crippled melee-wise, until you realize Blood Angel melee is just flamers for everybody.

The animations for the opponent's turn is kinda clunky. Also, it REALLY wants you to take the tutorial and I havent found a way to disable the 'take the tutorial?' prompt other than taking the tutorial. Nonetheless, I enjoy 40k and enjoy this game.

While I do see the price as high (and has never really gone down), the original game campaign is a great tactical experience. I go back and enjoy replaying it with different army builds now and then. I wouldn't recommend it if it was a cent more than its current price (40) though. Planetary Supremacy mode is merely OK, and not worth buying into the DLCs.

Its okay.. I just find it wildly overpriced. At this price you dont even get that much, just space marines... Fuck that is greedy

This is exactly what Warhammer 40,000 as a video game should be like.
Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the Dawn of War RTS series, too. But Warhammer really shines when it's round based instead of real-time. This game really gets me back to the feeling I had as a kid when I played the original tabletop with my friends. It is very tactical and losing a unit makes you want to restart the entire level as they also added progression to the units which you didn't have in the tabletop version but that adds a cool layer of depth to the game.
Graphics, sound and everything else are good but not over the top amazing, but you really don't need that. Graphics and sound were non-existent in the real-life version as well. The imagination was yours to have and to enjoy your experience.
Mission design is also very good and puts you in different difficult settings where your army loadout really matters to what you can achieve. Saving a bunch of squads of Battle Sisters? Better have a fast moving army with jetpack squads and a couple of vehicles ready.
Can't go through locked doors? Better fly over the gates and open the door on the other side.
And choosing the Blood Angels which was my favorite army in WH40k as the base campaign is awesome. And with DLCs you can add Neocrons and other factions of your favorite advisories.
9/10 - would highly recommend for Warhammer and round based strategy fans of all kind. If you enjoyed Incubation for example you will definitely enjoy this one, too.

A grossly overpriced game cut up into grossly overpriced DLC segments.
Worse unit variety than decades old 40k RTS games, missing such iconic and basic units as tactical marines and devastators, even terminators(locked behind DLC), slugga boyz and killa kanz, raveners and zoanthropes, and kroot are entirely absent from the tau roster. Not to mention they have the gall to make orks and imperial guard entirely locked behind DLC.
With an ugly aesthetic and animations, and some of the ugliest turn based combat I've ever seen.
Makes me question how it could possibly be so well received.

Good game. Only minor gripe is being bombarded from off-screen enemies but that's lore-accurate so whatever.

This is a pathetic game without the DLC. It is not made clear how puny the content is without paying extra.
I feel ripped off.
