I played this for a few hours, hated it, tried again a few months later, hated it again.
I loved Borderlands 2, so what went wrong? Well, the writing doesn't seem as bad as BL3. I wasn't enjoying it, but it wasn't making me actively cringe.
The first major issue I have is that the weapons suck. They just don't feel good to use, the damage is next to nothing. When I got my hands on a sniper rifle I was like "finally" only to find head-shots didn't do enough to kill even the most basic enemy minions. Shotguns seem to tickle the enemy, and it does this terrible ragdoll thing which seems like it's *supposed* to knock them back, but instead it just knocks them around in a random direction, sometimes towards you.
Anyway, point being, they just all feel really unsatisfying.
The second issue is the game now has this really clunky world map like something out of a JRPG from 40 years ago. Complete with random encounters. And the random encounters start like a random battle in a pre-gen village or ruin or something and you have to kill a certain amount of enemies. But what's weird (other than how pointless the encounters are in the first place) is that the encounter ends once you've killed a certain amount of enemies, but not once you've killed *all* the enemies. It's like they keep spawning, and as soon as your kill count hits 15, the rest of them just vanish, even if you're looking right at them. So why not just not have the encounter spawn more enemies than it would let you kill? Like, if it's gonna stop at 15, then just spawn 15 guys. It's just makes it all feel even more meaningless when the fight arbitrarily ends once you hit your kill limit.
And lastly and most importantly, the DLC. Now, all the Borderlands games have had DLC, but they've never had a game so aggressively try to upsell you within the game before. The very first town you visit in this game exists ONLY to sell you the DLC. The only NPC you can talk to in the whole town encourages you to use a slot machine that only works with currency you can only buy from doing DLC quests. And I've got a sinking feeling maybe the reason all the weapons feel *so awful*, is to get you desperate for better loot, better loot that you can conveniently win through this machine. Or maybe I'm just getting paranoid. Either way, the first town you visit should have NPCs that give you quests, like every other Borderlands game and every other RPG ever. It shouldn't be a naked cash grab trying to sell you DLC with gambling mechanics. Feels absolutely soul-less.
If you're a borderlands fan, I encourage you not to buy this game. Just play BL2 again, don't support this kind of corruption.

5/10 game.
It’s fun with friends, however it’s a very miserable buggy mess as well that hasn’t been properly fixed.
Dialogue and story is also cringe.

Due to the overwhelmingly bad review at launch, I've put off on getting this, despite having purchased every single Borderlands title including all of its DLCs. That, and I was super burnt out on maxing every single class / characters for every title.
And honestly. I don't understand why the hate.
It has the same type of humour and dumb jokes Borderlands has.
On top of that, it seems to have learned from all the short comings previous BL titles have, and improved upon it.
Instead of stepping into a random character's shoes and pretend to be them. You get to play a character of your own creation and choosing. Which to me is honestly fucking fantastic, seeing as that's what RPG is really about.
Instead of binding your class to a specific character or gender. Now you get to just be whatever you want to be. Want to be a Berserker Assassin? You no longer have to pick between Brick or Zer0. Or how about if you want to play Assassin but also cast spells? You don't have to split your choice between Zer0 and Lilith.
TL:DR;
This is great, even when compared to previous BL titles.
But this game is 100% not for snow flakes who gets offended at pronouns and rainbows.

Really wish the reviews had a "meh" rating instead of just Yes or No.
Gameplay wise, the game is quite fun. It has almost the same gunplay of Borderlands 3 which, IMHO, is the best in the series, as well as I'd say one of the more fun end-games with the Chaos Chamber being the randomized arenas with modifiers which I like more then Mayhem mode as it got new enemies as you encountered them in the DLC. I really liked the Dual Class system too but I wish we had more points available to us so we could flesh them out more.
Story wise... eh. It was okay. I liked the writing more then BL3, which isn't a high bar, and liked the villain but they definitely didn't do enough with him to make him very memorable which was a major disappointment. He showcased the ability to get in the way of and mess with the DM at the start and then practically never again. If they leaned into him being able to influence the Wonderlands it would have helped a lot. Most of the sidequests were okay with a few stand outs though most were puns or retellings of other fairy tales like Don Quixote or Jack and the Beanstalk.
The DLCs were bleh. A few small maps that repeat with maybe 1 new mechanic/change to the boss and nothing else with each runthrough and none of the legendaries were all that interesting to me. The NPC it introduced plus the "roulette wheel" were kinda neat though.
It took me about 25ish hours to beat the main campaign, though I AFKed a lot so maybe more 20ish, and have been going through the DLCs/achievements that extended the play time a bit before I stopped as I just... wasn't having fun.
Overall... it's fine. I would not recommend it at full price but I picked it up+DLC for about $15 so I think that's fair for about as long as it lasted for me.

Great co-op game for borderlands fans, I'm really happy that they expanded on Tiny Tina's DnD adventure.
However, why are we not releasing any updates at all for this? Not saying to make it a live service game or anything but I'd like to see more content released, or at least an expansion with a raised level cap or something.

This game is bad. I'm a long time fan of the Borderlands franchise, but this one is not worth your time, let alone your money. Story is worse than BL3 (somehow) and the combat is worse than Presequel (somehow). Melee weapons being their own equipment slot sounds cool, but melee builds feel like ass thanks to extreme melee aim assist that you CANNOT TURN OFF. The guns are interesting, but feel bad. The multiclassing system sounds complex, but the majority of skills on the majority of classes just say +damage, so as long as you can put blocks in a square hole, there isn't much to think about.
This game has interesting ideas, but the gameplay is just so bad that they never have a chance to shine.

I have been a borderlands fan for a long time. I loved all the other entries. This is horrible. The characters are all completely uninteresting, it is gone beyond trying to be funny and is just annoying now. The enemies are not fun to fight. They just run at you and if you just kite backwards your fine. Bosses aren't that hard just bullet sponges, and worst of all the loot really sucks in this one. I am going to finish it because I paid for it but will probably not ever replay this again.

I enjoyed this Borderlands games the most so far, even if it's a spin off. The main story and all the quests were really fun, 100% comedy and laughing, the classes are really funky too, loved my 2-spell armed mage. The end game content and the final achievement were a bit too grindy, not to mention the DLCs, but you can skip those and will get an amazing experience for a really good price during discounts! It was an epic adventure, I really hope they will give a sequel and another campaign of Bunkers & Badasses!

It's an alright game.
Basic borderlands looter shooter concept, but DnD themed.
Skill trees I feel are less impacting than previous iterations of the game.
You can do a dual class system which I like a lot.
The introduction of companions for most classes is cool, but I feel like they fall pretty short, even when trying to spec into them.
The weapons aren't that much different than other borderlands games. With a difference that you can different melee weapons, and a spell equipped. These are nice twists, and spells can be pretty fun with the variety of options.
The story is kind of dull to be honest. Very heavy in dialogue, which I understand it's a DnD game. But you start to tune out after a while.
The gameplay loop isn't really that exciting. The difficulty is pretty moderate with that you can clear most mobs easily, but then you have to play a little tactfully with others.
Overall I'd say it's worth a heavy discount. Definitely never worth the full asking price.
