So far I am enjoying the game. It is just hard enough to keep me interested but not so hard that I don't want to play. I like that it has enough different stuff in it that it keeps it different than CIV games. I like the crisis ages and the what if ages. I would recommend it to my friends.

Millennia brings great depth and engaging mechanics to the table. While still a bit rough around the edges, it already feels more polished than Civ 6 — and especially Civ 7. However, the AI is painfully dumb, and the wild variance in innovation/chaos events can make the experience frustrating. Like many modern strategy games, computer opponents struggle to challenge even a mediocre player without major resource cheats. The best way to play? Against real humans—either online or in hot seat mode. Pros: ✔ Amazing production chains that add depth to economy management ✔ Strong replayability thanks to multiple playstyle-shaping choices ✔ New gameplay systems introduced in each age, keeping things fresh ✔ Diverse combat roles for units, making battles more tactical Meh: - Towns/outposts get destroyed instead of conquered—feels unsatisfying - Progressive unit costs (like utility ships or traders) can feel excessive - Leaders can’t be upgraded, limiting long-term progression Cons: - Dumb AI—no real challenge without major handicaps - Innovation/chaos effects vary too much in power (from useless carriage processions to allmighty hoplites) - Harsh soft cap on controlled regions, restricting expansion Final Verdict: If you love deep strategy and don’t mind weak AI, Millennia is worth checking out—just make sure you’re playing against real people for the best experience.

Not quite as pretty as Civ VII but they've got a great game with only 2 Expansions via season pass and incredible game play. I've bought Civ III through VI and I won't be getting Civ VII. This is better.

Finally picked this up after seeing a major UI/QoL update. So far I'm having a lot of fun! It's definitely not the prettiest game, but the core game play is delivering. The alt ages are super fun, especially when another nation pulls you into an unexpected one. And so far I'm loving the feel of the national spirits and the various "XP trees"...gives it kind of an RPG vibe, which I dig. In other words, it gives the game more dynamics instead of absolutely everything being about food and production. I'm also surprised at how much I like the simplicity of the starting "civs"...it's just a name and a single starting bonus, which you can choose independently. So I can always play Canada (or make up a unique civ!) but choose different starting bonuses each time. It meant I jumped right into the game instead spending hours studying 30+ leader traits to decide who to start with.

It needs a bit more quality of life stuff and i really hope it keeps getting developed but i do recommend it, its got some really cool concepts and ideas. *but* you have to approach it as a brand new game if you come here thinking its a civ 5 or 6 clone you'll have a terrible time. its a very similar 4x game but you have to play it totally differently. my last game my capital had 60 pop and extended 10 tiles in all directions and i finished that with an early victory, your regions need to be *huge* and you have to think very carefully about what areas should be regions and what land should just be vassals. you cant settle your cities as close as any other 4x. in something like civ 5 if you pick liberty in a game you shoudlve gone honour its bad but your not out of the game. in this you have to think very carefully about what national spirit or government to take. they have huge impacts and completely change how you play. you have to learn each eras mechanics, what techs are the priority, what techs you can skip in some games, what improvements do you really need with your limited space. if you mine every resource on the map like you would civ you can easily get trapped sometimes you need to put buildings over resources you dont need yet. its a big complicated game that definitely needs some smoothing out and some of the eras need more fleshing out and complexity to match others but its really really intresting. just make sure your aware that your commiting to a long game.

Genuinely the best Civ-like released in the last few years. Mechanically, it is very satisfying, and everything just fits together. You can focus your nation in a variety of ways, and playing tall is more viable than in any other Civ-like except for Civ 5. The balance could still use a bit of tweaking, but it's much better than it was at release. The biggest downside is the presentation. The graphics are serviceable, but nothing fancy. The combat system is borderline ugly. The other nations have no leaders or anything, and are simply represented by a text box. There is none of the pizzazz you get in Civ, or even in Humankind or Ara: History Untold. But if you are tired of Civ-likes that put more focus on presentation than on the actual meat of the game, then Millennia is your best bet.

I really disliked the demo of this game, but the full release is incredibly good. This game does so many things right, and if you want an actual good civilization experience, this is the game for you.

Everything new about Civ7 was ripped from Millennia. Just play this but get it on special, just go back and play Civ5/6, or maybe even play Humankind. I'm posting a positive review because I think this is the best Civ competitor currently being developed so I'm hoping the hype for Civ comes over to the superior clones. It is a bit janky the first couple of playthroughs but I highly recommend sticking with it and just playing through it on an easy difficulty whilst figuring out the essentials of this game.

After probably 25 years of gaming on and of steam, this is my very first review. Why? Because I want a roadmap for 2025! In my oppinion this game deserves it! The game is imo the best competitor to CIV as of now, with fresh ideas, regarding replay (timeline can be changed significantly by choosing), tile system and strategy (focus trees). Each of the ideas are great, I love the immersion that they generate, which are not broken by the alternative histories. Damn I even love the graphics; they feel more realistic than Comic CIV 6. The game for sure has it's weaknesses, especially in CPU AI (weaker than CIV, but similar problems), balance (the game for sure is not perfect for Min Maxers), and the super prolonged late game (CIV has a similar problem) So the game is definitely not for everyone (especially min maxers won't like aspects). But in my oppinion it brings enough fresh air to be exciting for a lot of hours. Hopefully the game gets a roadmap for 2025!
