Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown Reviews

Had High hopes for this game, and now I don't wanna play it. I played test drive growing up, and this game seems to be a disappointment to the series. This game will probably die way more than it already has...

As a huge TDU fan its honestly sad seeing how this game got released. I still enjoyed my time in it tho, played until I ran out of content and finished all of Hong Kong Island after 100 hours. Decided to wait a few seasons, now season 3 is released and honestly things are looking better. I hope they keep this up. Ibiza looks amazing and the new delivery missions remind me of the good old TDU. More TDU types of content are already confirmed, like houses and more missions, lets get that released and hopefully this game will see more positive reviews!

As a historical Test Drive fan, I really tried to give this game an unbiased chance regardless of all the negative reviews out there. Unfortunately, the game is very poorly optimized for PC (perhaps it is better on consoles). The graphics are subpar and it seems to stutter a lot. Games like Forza Horizon 4 and 5 are proof that it is possible to have visually stunning open world arcade games that function great on a wide spectrum of hardware specifications. I still have hope that the developer would continue pushing out updates with bug fixes and optimizations to get the game to a playable point

This is an awesome race game! TDUSC has great quality and even greater potential. TLDR: Racing = perfect Social = lacking Customization = lacking My opinion so far? The racing, physics and environment is stunningly beautiful and detailed. Pretty much everything alongside the roads is breakable and adds SO MUCH to the realism and freedom. Most other race games force you to stay on track with all sorts of unrealistic rails or bumps. TDUSC is totally open and realistic for that matter! It adds a new sensation to races because you can literally drive off a cliff. As for the social part and core of TDU, this is lacking. There's no lobby where you can walk around and show off your rides before/after a race. There are no private spaces/homes that you can buy and make your own. All car dealers have the same ugly and empty exterior and sci-fi interior that is widely spaced. There are limited amount of cars and no normal day-to-day vehicle types to choose from, only exotics. I would love to pick a regular car and tune it to my liking, something to show off and casually drive as TDU is known for. By the looks of it, these things might come in future updates. In my opinion, the most important aspect is perfectly done (driving), now let's hope KT will add the things that truly make it a TDU experience. Thanks !

Meh, this is just a mediocre grind-fest. This is not Test Drive Unlimited, this is test drive LIMITED !!! This is an open world racing game with different categories of cars. There is a handful of selection for cars but not that much. There is no story to speak about. There is not much car customization. There is not much charakter customization. The map is not as big as older games. You always have money troubles to buy MANDATORY new cars. You have to buy the best car of the class to win the races or objectives, upgrades won't be enough. The city is dead, the traffic is mostly 4-5 cars repeating. The makers of the game did not even bother optimizing it, even the GeforceNow ultimate subscription is having fps drops in forest areas. We used to be able to buy houses in the TDU 2, that is not a thing here. Physics is clunky but we don't expect a simulation from this game. I have never seen an online player on the map, don't know why. So overall, this game is not much enjoyable from any aspect. Can't recommend.

Positives: Driving physics feels right. Map details improved since the beta version. Negatives: Car prices seemed a bit too high, making it grindy. Game is always online and no solid promise for offline patch yet, so buyer beware. Also note the high vram requirement. Overall a flawed but fun racing game. I bought it on sale. Decide for yourself.

I tried so hard to enjoy this game, but i just didn't. I loved TDU2 back in the days, and was so happy when they announced that a successor is coming. I tried the beta demo but it was pretty horrible, but i tried to stay positive since that was not the final product. So even though the demo was horrible i immediatley bought this game on release thinking they would have made the improvements neccecary to call it a full game. I was wrong. It took more than 2 hours to even get in to the game due to horrible servers, when i finally was able to play the game, it felt just like the early access demo. No improvements what so ever. And since it took more than 2 hours to get in to the game, i was outside of the refund window. I tried to contact support to get a refund but i was out of luck. Haven't touched the game since, and judging by watching videos, reading reviews, the game is still not fixed. Meaning you still have to force yourself to play the game. All in all, this game sucks. Its an 80€ scam, since i bought the gold edition. All i expected was a game where i can just enjoy driving cars in an open world, something that was achieved almost 15 years ago with TDU2. You could just have made TDU2 with better graphics and some new cars and i would be more than happy. But instead they made a game that if you even get in to the game, it forces you to grind for 10's of hours to get into the lower tier supercars, and when you finally get those cars, there is nothing to do with them. In TDU2 there was also a story element to the game, houses, licenses, free roam missions. This is no more. You start the game and grind your daily objectives, and that's it. Also the cars feels like bricks on wheels. The only good thing about this game is that the developer makes money, because when you finally manage to get in to the game and realize how bad it is, you are outside of the refund window. PS, instead of a refund i got some in game stickers as a compensation, also there was some car, but i have not played the game since. You are welcome for my 80€ donation Nacon, because that is basically what this is.

Kudos to the devs for continually updating this game despite the bad launch.

I am writing this as a huge fan of Test Drive Unlimited 1 from 2006, it is my favorite game ever. I would like to give TDU:SC a positive review, but there is one element that spoils the whole fun - optimization. If it is fixed, I will change my opinion to positive (barely positive). I can play almost every game on max settings in 4K and 60 FPS, but in TDU Solar Crown I have to play in low settings in 1080p to avoid stuttering and parts of the map disappearing while driving. This is unacceptable. And I installed the game on SSD as required. From the positives, driving on the steering wheel is surprisingly good, physics is quite good and fun, the engine sounds are good. Races with AI are decent. From the negatives. A terrible progression system, where for 10 hours you drive the first car, and the next car is an off-roader... The game is simply boring. There are not many cars and they are very expensive. The story line is terrible. Hong Kong Island is very monotonous to drive, most of the streets look the same. Same with Ibiza Island. The design of the whole game leaves a lot to be desired. Judging by the reviews and interest in TDU:SC it will probably be the last game in the Test Drive series, which is very sad for a fan of the series. But TDU2 was already a disappointment. As a game developer (creator of Japanese Drift Master) I offered Kylotonn Racing help with TDU:SC twice, but they didn't even reply. I guess they are convinced that they are doing a good job...

Bought it on sale for $35 AUD, wasn't gonna pay full price for this. After the annoyance of having to create a Nacon account to link to Steam, i chose the least douchey looking character, and that's it. Crashes every single time. Way to destroy a franchise idiots. 20 minutes of trying, haven't even been able to play the game lol, refunded.
