I have really really really badly wanted to love this game. I took a 2 year break from the franchise as a whole do to the terrible release. I come back because I wanted to reignite that spark this franchise did in me when I was a kid and it's just not there. No new story content, no multiplayer lore drops, changed the standard seasonal model to an even more money hungry and predatory scam, and it just feels like if EA or Ubisoft made a Call of Duty clone. I love Halo, this franchise was 20+ years of my life and to see it in the state it is in today is akin to watching a loved one slowly wither away from cancer.

Literally can't even get past the "Press Enter to Play" upon game launch now.
UI breaks once I click enter and I can't even go anywhere further.
Thank you 343, very cool after I spent $60 on the campaign which I can no longer play.

its actually embarrassing to be a halo fan nowadays and its crazy how a game from 2007 outshines this game in every way. Honestly wish i can refund all the time i wasted trying to cope. Its obvious 343 industries or halo studios (wtv they wanna call themselves) doesnt care about halo at all, as a matter a fact it seems they actually hate it and are trying their best to kill the Halo franchise. Major L to the community. SAD FACE

I just came back here to write a bad review for halo in general. Halo is not Halo anymore its not about giving the most to players its about getting the most from players. They destroyed cortona they made multiplayer free to play but the campaign 60 dollars. They did that to make the most money because they know people will buy it. Game modes were not there on launch. Just remembered what it felt like to unlock a skin in reach for working for it it wast supper grindy it was just about playing the game and when I see the store for skins like fortnight I just want to jump off a cliff. You are not fort this is the same problem in call of duty as well. I dont mind battle passes if you dont have to pay for them. This isnt fort.

No AUS/OCE playerbase, making the game unplayable. Playing with expanded region puts you at a massive disadvantage due to poor latency. Odd considering on older titles, you get a decent connection.
Social playlist is a sweat fest due to SBMM (Skilled based matchmaking), completely unfriendly towards casual players leaving a bad experience. Framerates are also not consistent even with strong hardware (3060ti), really upset what the game has come to.
Only worth playing the campaign mode, cant guarantee you a good story.

I don't think they could have fumbled this franchise any harder if they tried.
An unmemorable story that doesn't make a lick of sense post halo 4 unless you read books or comics, even then it still doesn't make much sense.
Lack of maps and game modes in this game. Devs getting the community to make maps using forge instead of doing it themselves with the better tools they have at their disposal. FOMO practices. Terrible XP progression, insane predatory micro transactions, broken promises and cut features such as split screen (Split screen works via a glitch caused by leftover code or something of the like, you can find videos on it).
I could go on and on but there are many other reviews that I'd be repeating it'd seem like as if I were just going ctrl+c ctrl+V the entire time.
Halo's main story should have ended at 4. The halo universe is so big and the human covenant war spans a period of 27 years with many battles having taken place. If they wanted to milk halo, they could have gone on to tell stories from other perspectives during this period be it from Spartans, marines, odsts or even a perspective from the covenant.
One thing that should be heavily noted [and should be common knowledge at this point] is the following: The people that were hired to make the 343/halo industries era halo games were people that did not like halo to try and develop the game in a way that it could attract the mythical and ever elusive "wider audience". This is a mentality that is rampant in the video game industry at this time. If you want to play halo, go for the MCC instead, don't waste your time on this.

This game used to be awesome. As a long time halo player, it felt like halo was finally back for me when it first launched. I can not recommend it anymore on steam. It's so broken that to get past the "Press Enter To Play" screen, you have to reinstall windows, or else you're met with an (halo) infinite loading screen. That's an absurd fix. This has been a problem for a minute with no fix in sight.

Recently tried to return to this game, unfortunately there seems to be an issue with loading into the multiplayer menu. I press enter to load the menu, and I'm left with a lovely picture of the backdrop after loading profile data. Doesn't seem like there is a fix online (after multiple searches) and I have tried reinstalling the game. Due to this, I cannot recommend this game at this time.

Infinite has come a long way since launch. Tons of multiplayer modes now, and they’re always adding fun LTMs. The operation battle passes are decent too with fun rewards without needing a crazy grind.
If you’ve been away, it’s definitely worth jumping back in.
