Unplayable, unable to load saves after dying, have to restart the whole level again. Please fix your game, i don't know how this was even allowed to be released still 2 years later full of bugs!! The og game from 1999 with a fan made patch is a better game!
Kingpin is not unplayable, but basically not much more than a waste of time either.
Of course I heard of Kingpin, but actually never got to play the original back in the day, so I have zero nostalgia here, and also can't really tell if this is an appropriate remaster or not. But what I can say is that it's probably not worth bothering anyway.
In Kingpin you play as a nameless criminal who wakes up in a dark backalley after being beaten up by some thugs of the name-giving Kingpin, who also has a striking resemblance to Marsellus Wallace from Tarantino's classic Pulp Fiction. The whole game revovles only about you trying to reach the Kingpin and getting your revenge by killing him. If you can find any story that is more basic and random, let me know.
The narrative might be short and limited, but the game itself is even more so. It just makes you run through maps with some of the most depressingly boring and monotonous artstyle and leveldesign I've ever seen. The gameplay is good ol' 90s run-and-gun-style, but the problem is that the vast majority of the nine available weapons is completely useless and you'll most likely end up just using the shotgun and the Tommygun, because they are the only two guns that are effective and do some actual damage.
The only enemies you'll encounter are other criminals with the only exception of some dogs at the start and the very end of the game. Their AI is on pure cannonfodder level, but at least your occasional AI companions are much more competent in following you around than in other contemporary first-person-shooters like Half-Life or Daikatana.
Despite being called a remaster, the game still looks like a typical low budget shooter from the late 90s nevertheless. The grafics are drab and undetailed, the animations are stiff, the voice-acting is way below average and cheesy as f*ck and the Cypress Hill loops that they try to sell you as a soundtrack are cool at the beginning but soon enough become repetitive and annoying. I turned them off completely after not even two hours and just listened to some actual music while playing the game.
So yeah, between all the late 90s and early 00s classics like Half-Life, Unreal, System Shock 2, Deus Ex and Quake 3 Arena it's no wonder to me that Kingpin was largely overlooked and ignored back then and there is no reaseon why this should change 25 years later. It's not that it was so bad that it pissed me off, I had a decent amount of fun with it. But as a matter of fact it's a very short and unspectacular game that you can absolutely breeze through within a handful of hours if you don't set the difficulty too high. As mentioned at the start I can't really tell if this is a proper remaster, but why care anyway when Kingpin is just a very generic and boring game in general?
Don't buy this for 20 Euros, it's barely worth half of it.

I can't understand the negative reviews, I've had a lot of fun with the game so far. Sure, it's still a rough, unpolished diamond in places, but its atmosphere is convincing. There is an inventory system, you can climb up to a certain level, there are secrets to explore and I don't always find it easy to get close to the enemies. I found the beginning particularly difficult because at first I wanted to kill everything in sight and not every problem can be solved with a crowbar. Listen to what some NPC's tell you in the game.
