Includes an incredibly tedious daily/weekly task grind for overpriced cosmetics like a f2p mobage for some baffling reason. Leaves a deeply bitter taste in my mouth.
Overall thought, this is little more than a not-particularly-ambitious pokemon romhack pretending to be unique. The mon designs are beautifully sprited and animated but mostly uninspired (with a few notable exceptions). Potential and visual indication of the same is a marked improvement over IVs/EVs, but it comes at the cost of potential excessively important and turning catching any new team member into a grind. The typing is strange: half the types are only available on moves, not mons, and I can't imagine why that choice was made. The custom difficulty options are very well done but the default difficulties being little more than Nuzlockes instead of tapping into the more interesting options available is bizarre.
It's a game that I wish I could like, but I can't shake the feeling that the devs didn't really have any desire to make anything more than slightly mechanically updated pokemon, and it just ends up boring.

What the hell is wrong with the person who created the Tower? I'm not against a bit of puzzle and enigmas, but what is that thing?! I'm at the 5th floor, and I had to stop to write that review before going further. Is this game about Coromons, or about doing puzzles? I've bought this game to fight and collect monsters, not to do an overwhelming amount of puzzles, ESPECIALLY so many in a row.
Not saying the game is bad, the monsters have cool designs and the fighting is balanced, but Idk why you'd ruin the fun with this. It's not that hard, I'll concede it to you, but it's simply not fun at all and not what the game marketed you'd mostly do.

I really enjoyed this game at first, but, over the years, the developers have made a lot of changes. I'll start with the positive points.
There are a wide variety of setting options that include different difficulties, nuzlocke mode, and the ability to randomize the Coromon that appear. There's even a setting that will make every Coromon look like one specific Coromon for the whole game. The designs of the Coromon are cool, and there's a wide variety. As time has gone by, the developers added some new Coromon, a Style Shop with special skins and clothing to customize your avatar and your Coromon, changed some elements to balance the game better, and fixed a lot of bugs. (Side note on the Style Shop: It has a lot more options in the Steam version than the Switch version for some reason, as if the Style Shop doesn't get updated on the Switch version. This version's Style Shop is superior because of this.)
As far as negatives, there's one major change that is definitely worse, and that's the overhaul to the storyline. The original story felt more complete while this new one feels anticlimactic. The final battle felt more fitting with some of the dialogue and interactions that they removed, and some of these things (like the Titan's actually giving more power to the player during this fight) also made this battle feel more playable with how difficult that one is. The main conflict doesn't feel fully resolved now because there are some characters who, despite being perfectly fine at the end of the original story, now are left in some sort of limbo at the end of the story for no apparent reason. While the story now feels more cohesive early on than it did in the original version, the ending leaves the player feeling less satisfied since there are people (and spirits) who can no longer be helped. The biggest one that bothers me is this one character, Thomas, who used to be reunited with his partner at the end and is now just...permanently corrupt and unsavageable, from the way the game makes it seem. Given that we set off to save him early in the game, this makes the story feel incomplete. There was a second character that the player used to be able to save and no longer can, which, again, leaves the story feeling incomplete. The original storyline was definitely better in terms of the ending (and what happened to the spirits encountered before fighting the second Titan).
I just hope that the developers make a sequel that resolves this storyline at this point, given that I doubt they'll be doing that in any kind of postgame.

Love the mechanics of battling, and the increased chances of capturing. Nice to not need a hundred capture units for rare creatures.

Fantastic pokemon clone, very faithful to the vibe of the first 3 or 4 gens. Tons of very nice quality of life additions and touches. Probably 1/4 of the way into the game, and have lost a lot of time in the same loops of grinding I can remember from playing the originals.
Creature designs are cool, heaps better than most every other similar game i've seen. The leveling system is also a little different, having a skill point system which I'm guessing is supposed to be like EV's sort of except you get to pick where the points go. Also a nice touch to be able to switch around moves instead of having to be stuck with what you have or overwrite.
Story is also much different from the theme of its inspiration, which is great considering i was almost certain it would be copycat in that respect.
Also, actual character creation instead of just boy/girl choice. Who doesn't love that?
It also has online play/battles that I have yet to try out.
Highly recommended for fans of pokemon in general that are open to a fresh take on the idea with some sweet QoL.

One of the best in-game Pokétype games out there. Good music, good sprites, good mechanics. The writing is kinda dated and cringey at times but nothing unfamiliar to the genre.

The game has the common features found in creature-collector games, such as held items, consumables, and puzzles. It features around 104 Coromon to capture, each available in three forms (Standard, Potent, and Perfect), along with 8 Coromon types and even more skill types. However, what made me choose this over others was its appealing pixel-art design and animation. I especially liked Pawbury and its inhabitants, like Purrghast and Eclyptor, but I also loved Toravolt, Hountrion, and Megalobite.
The game features a Style Shop, where you can get skins for your Coromon or your character. I think the Chunky Megalobite skin alone was worth the addition of a Style Shop. The currency for skins is obtainable from daily quests or online matches, although the online player base is pretty low. Nonetheless, I wish there were a different way to earn the currency instead of challenges.
For endgame content you can also play online matches, try out the Battle Dome or customize your difficulty, enable randomization, Nuzzlock rules, disable items, etc.
I’d recommend this to anyone who likes 2D creature-collector games.

Coromon is clearly a love letter to Pokemon, but in many ways, I enjoyed it more than the Pokemon games. PLEASE DON'T LYNCH ME- I have reasons!
The last Pokemon game I played (for at least over an hour) was X. I haven't played any future Poke games since then. My personal favorite in the entire series was White, and was one of the few games I actually finished alongside Pearl (and Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, if that counts). Most Poke games, I stopped after a while, either because I got tired of grinding, or the puzzles were annoying. Basically, I got tired of their formula.
Turns out, what Pokemon really needed was quality-of-life features, which Coromon had. QOL Features are things that make the game less frustrating or annoyingly time consuming. For Ex. I'm sure that you - assuming you've played Pokemon at least once - have had to constantly run back and forth between the dungeon and the healing center, and it was really time consuming. Especially when you are going down a cave.
Well, in Coromon, you can simply teleport straight to a healing center. And when you re-enter the dungeon, you can teleport straight to the Checkpoint (which is activated when you enter a new room). It is SO convenient and I'm shocked that Pokemon never had that.
That's just the tip of the iceberg. There are a LOT of QOL Features, actually. To name a few, there's portable storage, instant fruit gathering, the fact your Coromon NEVER forget moves so you can always mix and match them, and my personal favorite: YOU DON'T NEED TO TEACH ONE OF THEM ALL THE MOVES NECESSARY TO MOVE SHIT AROUND. LIKE CUT AND STRENGTH. GOD. Actually, YOU, THE PLAYER, are given the ability to move shit around! HUZZAH!
Such QOL Features made the gaming experience really smooth. But what about the Coromon themselves? The story? The art??
Trust me, they're all fucking amazing. The art is reminiscent of Black & White, which, in my opinion, was peak Pokemon style. So yes, that means they have 2D sprites, but they're animated. And they're really damn gorgeous too. The backgrounds are the cherry on top.
As for the story, I admittedly got hooked after a while. I like that Coromon's story is a rather simple adventure. I like that it's a bit corny. And none of the characters are dumb. The scientists are cool and the enemy is an actual threat. Fun stuff!
Last but not least, Coromon has some of the best "Fakemon" / creature designs I've ever seen in a Creature Collector game. They just...look so cool once they start getting stronger. AND THEY KEPT THE FIRE STARTER ON ALL FOURS. I feel like the cover art doesn't do enough justice in showing how cool the Coromon look.
IN CONCLUSION: I highly recommend, especially if you are feeling nostalgic for Pokemon, or if you wanna just play a classic Creature Collector game. It's around a 25-30 hour game, and was fun the whole way through!

Anyone familiar with the original classic will love this game. It has everything you need: a story, catching and training Coromons, and fighting enemies. It plays better with a controller than with a mouse and keyboard, in my opinion. There are a few annoying puzzles every now and then, but variety is essential, haha.
I can really recommend the game. I quickly got hooked and had to keep playing. You can also see the progress. The game actually crashed twice in the last two chapters, but that was okay. You can tell that a lot of time and attention has been put into the little details here; it's fantastic.

Firstly I would like to say in this review that the graphics of this game are charming, everything looks hand drawn and creates an amazing atmosphere. Almost all the Coromon are amazingly well designed. The story is pretty good and the game has a great system for assigning stat points to Coromon as they level up.
On the negative side of things my number one complaint is the lack of trainers in the game to fight. The further you progress into the game the less and less trainers you will encounter. You will find that most of your battles will be against wild Coromon. This was a huge down for me. Some of the puzzles could have been replaces with interesting trainer battles. This comes to my second complant: The puzzles.... There are alot of them and many of them are extremely tedious and boring to do. This all starts in tower on donar island where you need to flick the right combination of levers in different rooms and then navigate your way through an endless maze of conveyor belts. This just wasn't fun for me at all. The game should have had far more of an emphasis on trainer battles rather than irritating puzzles.
Would I replay this game? absoutely not! I would not subject myself to all those puzzles again. Was is worth the $4 I paid for it on special? sure was. If you are looking for something to scratch your old school pokemon itch then you might enjoy this game but be warned.
