I love this game, both solo, and with friends. It can be both very relaxing, and very stressful, depending on how seriously you want to play.

Great gunplay and roguelike mechanics, seasonal events with no FOMO since you can just go back and farm theme whenever you want. It's great.

This game is like if Borderlands was a Roguelite and all the vault hunters were little fuzzy animals. It's fun solo and in a party with friends. Localization could use a little work, but it's not that obstructive. 8/10

I suppose it's about time I reviewed this game. Actually, it's been a while since I reviewed ANY game, but regardless. Gunfire Reborn is if Risk of Rain and Borderlands made a baby, and then they took care for the baby to grow big and strong instead of leaving him in the ocean to drown. It's a chinese game, which is frankly shocking, not just from the above-and-beyond quality, but the surprising lack of cancerous monetization. You buy the game, and then there's DLCs. That's it. No microtransactions, no lootboxes/gacha, no skins for sale, it's all just content upfront. And not just that, but consistently for years after release they put out free content updates that spiced up the game, and currently it's in the best state and I reckon it can only get better. To put it in simple terms: Gunfire Reborn is a powerhouse simulator, in which you go with a build in mind and try and break the game with whatever you're given. Counting the DLCs, there's 12 characters, each with their own playstyle, and 3 ways to play: primary skill, secondary skill and weapons. With that said, nothing stops the creative mind to make up unorthodox builds. Example: Lei Luo(the snow leopard I believe) is the sniper character, with the upgrade tree basing around snipers and distance as well as crit. But there's a blessing that gives you a 50/50 chance to crit, which also applies to launchers, meaning nothing stops you to go ham with a mortar as you wreck havoc across the land. Paradoxically: there's a close quarters character (bird, idfk the chinese name). You are meant to play him as an "in your face" playstyle. But he also has a blessing that makes weapons hit twice, effectively doubling the damage. So giving him a sniper rifle to quickscope scrubs is a legit playstyle. And there's more examples like these, but you'll have to find them on your own. Weapons are plentiful and inscriptions can be game changing. There are common and uncommon ones, that apply across most weapons, and then there's legendary ones that can change how a weapon functions. Some weapons have alternate firing modes, such as the mortar, with the normal shot being a cluster of non-self-damaging explosions at close range, while the right click instead launches projectiles, like how you'd expect a mortar to work. There's a legendary inscription that makes the right click fire the entire magazine. Without extra mag increase inscription, it does mostly nothing, but if you pair it with a weapon with 160 mag, you'll be firing that thing for a while... A demonlore is an SMG considered one of the steamrolling weapons of the game, for every crit hit during the mag increases damage. If you have means to never reload, the DPS is bonkers. Then add an inscription that also increases lucky shot chances on top of the damage buff, and you'll be seeing red numbers enough to fill the screen. There's scrolls, which are the equivalent of passive items, I suppose. These scrolls do lots, but the game design around them is the fun part: there are barely any scrolls with conventional stat upgrades attached to them, and if they do, it comes with a cost. Say you want to move faster, there's the ostrich scroll, giving a massive 60% movement speed, but tripling the dash cooldown. Say you want to deal more damage, the question is what KIND of damage? Weapon? Skill? Universal? There's damage upgrades on first shots, there's increases after a reload, there's damage only if you don't hit crits! Say you want damage reductions, well you can take less if you move, or after you get hit, or only to your shield, but take MORE to your HP! Say you want cooldown, there's a scroll that straight up cuts your primary cd in half, BUT it gives a 3 second cooldown to your secondary! And I can keep going like this, just know the scrolls are the bread and butter of this game. The enemy variety is good, and, again, their designs look nice, each looking like they belong, cause God knows you're not getting any explanations for any of them. There's a 6'1' birdman sniper in the desert, there's monkeys with nunchaks on the mountain, penguins with flamethrowers riding giant baboons, animate new year lanterns, and my favorite, Roadhog from overwatch after the game closed down, so he became a shark furry in Singapore. Somehow still makes more sense than the average japanese indie game. Stages are fun, but could always use more variety, and our prayers are being answered, as last year they added an entirely new route for the desert, and it's really fun! In due time, other areas will also get love, so all one must do is wait. This game is a roguelite, meaning you can get permanent upgrades to make your characters and experience better. Unlocking stuff is not hard, you do it as you progress, and it even inspired from Ziggurat 1, giving you a copy of either the gun or scroll the moment that you unlocked it, so you could try it out. This feature is great, wish more rogueli(k)tes did this. Gunfire Reborn has up to 4 player co-op. The game gets harder, more enemies spawn, and you learn to share optimal gear if you want to win. And it's great! WHEN IT WORKS. This game, like many other modern titles, is cursed with the matchmaking disease, the very same concept that killed games like Team Fortress 2 and [insert mp game post-2020]. There have been voices asking for dedicated servers for a while, and it's yet to be answered. From the get go you can tell I'm anti-matchmaking, but if I have to put up with it, I at least expect it to work. Lo and behold: it doesn't. In the past, the coordinator seemed to behave better, finding other players in about 5 mins. Now you'd be hardpressed to find even ONE in half an hour. Frankly, it's a shame, while singleplayers is fun on its own, doing raids with the lads has its own charm, and it's how I met some of my newer steam friends, even if there's no ingame option to go straight to a profile. This game would benefit greatly from either dedicated servers, or the ability to see players queuing and joining directly. Matchmaking sucks balls. That's a fact. While there are other criticisms, they appear to be fixed over time, with updates, as the company tends to listen to the playerbase. The only thing consistent is the weird translations, which although they also got better, it appears to be tradition to have at least one scroll or gun per update that is so oddly worded it'll take you a couple minutes to figure out what it means. And don't get me started on character mechanics... Oh, and there's also a bug that, for no reason, some of the status effects on the display will be featured in chinese, and if it doesn't happen at least once per run, then you haven't experienced the game properly. Some people may call Gunfire Reborn the perfect game. In a way, it is. It is a spectacularly crafted game, with a good history lacking any sort of major controversy, and has a by-the-book old school business model, which is sorely needed from more companies. And other factors are one thing, but the game is just plain fun. The whole thing is barely over 30 bucks. Modern games for double that price can barely keep one's attention for 2 hours. This game got my attention for 400+ hours. Try it out, you may just find your new hobby! Honest 10/10.

Great game, dont like how the first chest u get for a weapon is COMPLETELY random would like it to at least have one weapon guaranteed to have something to do with my char, but considering thats my biggest gripe, its one of the games of all time.

Gunfire Reborn is the perfect rouge-like. The game understands and rewards a knowledgeable player with countless opportunities to create broken builds whilst piling on amazing optional difficulty levels and enhancers. Every character is insanely unique with new ones coming out frequent enough, always bringing me back to grab the new achievements. Topped off with a perfect co-op experience, I can't recommend this more than enough, easily the best FPS rogue-like, although the only competition is Roboquest.

Absolute hidden gem of a game. If you are a roguelike enthusiast, you will enjoy this game. Ton's of unlockable guns, modifiers for weapons, and scrolls that can be combined to make bat shit insane builds. The cherry on top of course being there is a skill tree that gives bonuses to all playable characters, of which each character has 3 different completely unique paths that alter play.
