An unbeatable classic given a fresh new look - and sound! (With Steam achievements to boot.)
Back in '95, this was a chunky install at around 600MB - it's now around 6GB. Anyway, if you have a couple hundred hours free (LOL) I really recommend this. I can't remember if they fixed the AI in Tiberian Dawn where you could wall the enemy in and they'd just sit there. They definitely fixed that in Red Alert. The unit route plotting can be a little dumb, you'll need to babysit some units in larger groups.
The new soundtrack is definitely richer and a few new tracks add a little value. The finer graphics reveal some interesting detail that just wasn't discernable in the lo-fi original - it's cool to see that with the live toggle.
I'd love for the guys to do a reboot of RA2 and Tiberian Sun - the whole franchise is the benchmark to which all war strategy games aspire, imitate and never quite equal.
Personally, I think Generals is the best of the franchise but the original lays a significant foundation with great replayability and iconic sounds, music and animations.

This is a game that i grew up playing, still love it and the new version with the better graphics bang's, love that you can toggle the space bar to change back to old school graphics.

Ignore the time played; I have played the originals all the way through multiple times, dozens of hours on them, just not on this platform. I played it on this briefly to test. Since I already did reviews of the original Command & Conquer game and Red Alert 1, I am only going to include this stuff where this differs in this review.
Pros: truly a huge upgrade in visuals and audio. Hotkeys and in general the modern UI improves the experience immensely(Attack Move in these two! Finally! Much less micromanaging). While asymmetry is maintained, this evens out the factions. You can choose whether or not to allow expansion pack units in MP. CTF, No Base rulesets lead to very different MP matches. Some minor AI improvements, such as pathfinding. Other QOL. Great map editor, reminiscent of the one for StarCraft 1. Includes the console levels.
Cons: Doesn’t really fix issues other than the ones mentioned.
I give this a strong recommendation for returning fans, a mild for new players used to RTS’ that are overall better, like StarCraft.

This makes C&C 1 playable where the original is more of a historical piece by modern standards.
When I say playable I'm talking 5/10...not something that's easy to recommend to anyone but the most hardcore fan of the genre.
The story is weak, the level design is extremely poor, the controls even with improvements still feel dated. Despite all this there is fun to be had. ESPECIALLY with Red Alert 1. The original Red Alert hits a game pace that was never truly expanded upon in future entries and makes it a unique game to this day. Its the reason to consider this remaster from a game play standpoint.

I love this game! Perfect remaster of originals, and I love the way you can switch between versions in campaign. The map editor is also pretty solid, only being a little janky at times. It goes for pretty cheap too on sale, and I honestly can't find something really bad with this game. Highly recommend to anyone who likes RTS games.

Played the OG versions of both these games, and this is an amazing Remaster. I love the fact that you can just press Space Bar and it'll switch between classic and Remaster graphics. Also, the ability to play any of the music in either game is very fun. Not to mention there's a lot of demo's of music that Frank had worked on.
Blizzard needs to take note on how to do a proper Remaster.
If you're a fan of C&C, or RTS in general, I'd highly recommend this game. It goes on sale often, and the sale price is totally worth it.

This remaster is a winner. It’s a stellar package, and hopefully a template for what is to come. The minor shortcomings are all due to the age of this title – but this is an old game. You have to take it for what it is – a glorious little piece of history. In presenting that, this is a practically flawless release – but the old-fashioned, less friendly design in places will mean this one isn’t quite for everyone.
