the game has some MAJOR combat issues, especially with the long winded attacks not being able to cancel, even light attacks on the lightest weapon taking a few seconds to finish, you are a sitting duck for faster attacks, such as bosses, and bosses stacking attacks one after another. dodging around enemies they will rotate even in the air to hunt your character, but with you not being able to counter it you just have to pray, you can go to stagger an enemy you have to fully rely on luck if you want to knock them over or stagger, blocking animation takes so long timing it properly for a poise buildup isn't worth it either. just roll and poke for most fights, making things take way longer then they need to be. hope they keep working on it

I think the first thing to keep in mind about this game is that it is TRUE Early Access. Not "we just want your money and will never finish the game" Early Access, not "we are an AAA studio and just called our finished game Early Access so we could cover our asses about bugs and unfinished content" Early Access, TRUE Early Access. That means the game is ACTIVELY IN DEVELOPMENT. That means things will be unfinished, there will be bugs, and a patch comes out more frequently than for finished games. Expecting development to proceed by making finished areas chunk by chunk is unreasonable. Some of the early game areas are still receiving improvements and updates, even as more content gets added.
But that also means that, as I said above, the game is actively being developed. Your feedback matters. The devs listen. The more funding they receive, the faster they will be able to work on finishing the game. Purchasing the game is not just for enjoying the current content and all future releases, it is also a message to the devs that you want to see this game finished and that you believe in their vision.
I've played through what's available in the game three times now, and I'm constantly impressed by what they've managed to cram into this cat game. Unlike basically every other Soulsborne I've played, the magic actually feels like it integrates seamlessly into melee combat. You can combo spells with melee without feeling like it breaks flow, you can counter with spells after parrying, everything about the combat in this game is just so viscerally satisfying that despite its flaws I just want to keep on doing it. I haven't felt a combat high this good since I played Sekiro. Even without the ability to mix-and-match spell trees (which I am told is coming later), you can already turn your fights with the bosses in this game into combat montages. But the best thing is, the game makes you *WORK* for those moments. It by no means plays itself, but that makes the moments in which you do cool things all the more satisfying.
In terms of the game itself, it is what I might call Souls-lite. The devs have stated a clear intent to make it a more accessible title to those newer to the Soulsborne genre. That doesn't mean the game isn't challenging, it just means that they were specifically conscious about the design decisions that might have made other titles extremely frustrating or punishing to those unfamiliar with the genre and have designed around them. Even saying this, veteran Soulsborne players will still enjoy a romp through Ailur. Fun is what you make of it, and getting the parry timings right on the enemies is no easy feat.
Make no mistake; the game isn't perfected yet. Obviously; that's what the whole point of Early Access is. Expecting it to be completely finished is unreasonable. But you *CAN* expect to be heard by the devs. If you report a bug, it will likely be gone by next patch. Even if you don't report it, someone else probably will have and it will be gone by next patch. If you want to participate in the development of what is shaping up to be a great game, BUY THIS.
