i'm a little bit over 8 hours in and still enjoying it story wise: you start with a character that has amnesia and along the road you will recall memories of your past as a beast tamer, along the way you will have to save people or slay boss monsters or find specific items but its made in a way that it pretty much has a back story on all things you do battle wise: the encounter rate of this game is quite high, you will have different ways to fight the enemy like pure damage but also the option to go for a more defensive or a ailment way of fighting, not all of these are unlocked direct but after around three hours you should have tamed enough monsters to be able to have a varity of fighting types, personally my favorite is ailment and buffs ( little spoiler but you will tame a ghost early on that is quite overpowered if you buff it with evasive buffs) the battles are in general a bit though in the way that enemies can deal quite some damage or have allot of health depending on which one you fight and require a good tactic to counter it, this is mostly true for bosses which can be difficult first try, till youl earned the moves of the boss though this could be made easier grinding or go for optional quest which the game has a couple of visual wise the game looks like final fantasy 1-5 ,luffia, or the older entries of tales saga, and does a good job in choosing how it places all walls furniture etc around in a way that everything looks beautiful and on the right spot, it brings back memory to my past during the gba -ps1 era tactics: there are different types of skills you can equip to your characters that can enhance them like apply ailment to attack, boost healing, boost stats , but also a couple of chance skills that can for example trigger a second attack or have a chance to remove a ailment on your party ( there are plenty more) equipment can also have a side effect boosting stats or apply a ailment (there is also more here) and the last thing i want to mention is that each monster has a type bound to it water>fire>wind>water this affacts how much dmg is dealt or how much is taken this also force you to change which monsters you want to have in your party and experience different tactics
