This is an extra-crunchy, calculated Slay the Spire. If StS (or even Monster Train) is too simple of a deckbuilder for you, then I would recommend this. Personally, however, I have no motivation to read through the gazillion keywords and learn all of the bells and whistles on top of a "standard" deckbuilding experience.

This is a Slay the Spire like deckbuilder with some unique additional mechanics and tons of replay value.

One of my favorite roguelite card playing games (because there is no RNG, you manage and upgrade, and modify cards, and it plays a lot like a tactical RTS / RPG) … the gameplay is fantastic and can get as simple or complex as you wish, and the graphics and sounds are incredibly entertaining and immersive, and they made this available for all platforms with cross-platform saving (including achievements!) The developers are super passionate and interactive on Discord. We need more games made like this. Tips: Don’t forget to purge unused cards (toss into the right tunnel entrance purge area) for energy. See a threat and use block to keep it down before your turn ends. It’s a different process to other card games but makes total sense in battle. At 60 hours in just scratching the surface. Quite possibly the only RLDB that is of the same caliber as StS, and maybe even greater. It's more complex without being convoluted and mechanics are easy to understand.

I've played my fair share of deckbuilders, roguelites, and roguelike deckbuilders. This is hands-down one of the best out there. The sound and graphic design, the variety of builds and ways to unlock them, the themes and enemy designs... it's all so satisfying. What Vault of the Void has up on a lot of other similar games in the genre is the difficulty. Slay the Spire, Monster Train, and a other similar titles are fun, but once you've really figured out how to play deckbuilders as a whole, they get pretty easy pretty fast. VotV is much more difficult, and you'll actually have to use your brain for (most) of the archetypes you play into. And without spoiling too much, you are richly rewarded for completing runs with a lot of cool stuff to make future runs more interesting, challenging, or both. Also helps that the devs are a transparent studio of awesome people. If you enjoy deckbuilders, buy it. If you like a challenge, buy it. If you're on the fence, guess what - buy it. Trust me, you won't regret it.

One of more interesting twists on the Spire-like formula. 20 card deck format makes it easy to construct decks from the cards given to you, voidstones mechanic giving your cards that additional "umph", nonconventional gameplay mechanics (well not all of them, we all know what bleed does) that let you play to your liking. I find the characters much more diverse gameplay-wise than StS with their own dedicated mechanics. It's not another StS but with different names for mechanics, this game is different enough to captivate you for longer. I don't fully understand how the progression works for this game, but there is some type of it. Also additional pre-set challenges with artifacts that suggest you some way of playing is a great thing to help you understand how to play around a certain mechanic -- super cool stuff. Recently the devs came out with some issues regarding Ninento Store (kill Nintendo with fire) and lost revenue/work due to that. They said 'we will release the next dlc with a small cost instead of for free'. Like these guys were afraid of backlash and negative attitude. All of the games community stated "shut up and take my money". It's not a rainbow blaster for SW:Outlaws, it's not a skin for Doom Slayer. They had reservations about putting price on CONTENT. And the community said "just kiss me". That's just a big proof of how liked this game is. If you like deckbuilders -- you won't be disappointed.
